Same can be said for the 58 except the 58 is more resistant to damage. So if you can only have one mic, get the 58 because they’re the same price and nearly identical in other aspects.
They're the same mic except for the grille. They have the same cartridge. The SM58 has a meshed ball grille because it was designed for vocal application. I would argue getting SM57's and the A2WS attachment if you want to use them for vocals (it calms down some of the plosives, breath noises and the natural harshness of the mic) if you want inexpensive, versatile mics. @@totallyfrozen
Dang i just pulled my 57 from my snare because I'm gonna use it for vocals at our gig next week. Been about a year since i used it live. Good timing finding this video.
I know this was a "short" video, but I totally enjoyed your review (and the cat). Your video popped up as I've been researching whether or not to get a 57 for my vocals. I don't loop my vocals, but I DO use a harmony pedal. Not to mention this- to the point, no BS review made me subscribe to your channel... *New Fan right here*!
Aww shucks wow! You are so kind to say all that! Ya it’s a versatile little thing and great price 👍 I don’t see them for vocals so much anymore, but maybe you will make it popular again. When picking vocal mic, sometimes the best thing is to go into the store and try your voice out on them
Really helpful video! To the point but fun to watch!! and great musicianship too!! I am gonna get one of these as a backup vocal mic and in case I ever need to mic a guitar cab. What a fine example of good content :-)
Oh good! They are great mikes to have on hand, for that very reason👍 I think the capsule inside is the same as the SM 58, but the shape of this one does make it ideal for making instruments and amps.
I like the dynamic ones because of the "small hot spot". I use the sm57, sm58, beta58 and my loved sm7b. Looping vocals without "surroundnoises" without headphones is easier without a condenser. My greetings to you, your love for the music and my respect for your great talent. Very helpful. Very entertaining stuff. I bought my rc 600 because of you. Ok. That must be enough. Have a nice weekend.
Have used SM57 for vocal for more than 30 years! I have the option of the Beta 57, SM58, Heil and others but mostly use the SM57. There is a pop filter which works very well. Friends ask me to mix their gigs because they like my sound. Proof is in the pudding 😁
Thank you sooo much! I'm shure (haha) that vocals are vocals, but would the sm57 be good for screaming as well? And if I made a cheap pop filter with a hanger and a nylon, would that be a decent setup? I'd have to do more research on effects, but would this be a good start?
Great mic! I plan to do a lot of recording very soon & plan to use a SM57 on some vocals as well as some instruments n amps. I have owned one for years & am thinking about buying another. So I searched ebay & see some for $99 ( normal price give or take) then saw some for &39, $49 new & suspected these to be fake. I did a search for fake SM57 & sure enough there’s info & videos on the very subject. Buyer beware!
Still have it but needs repair as in broke. Hey I wanna keep my looping fun and simple like you. People have gone to deep into rc 600..not worth making it a major project with midi etc
It’s fine for the voice. But doesn’t have the pop filter. My understanding is the 57 and the 58 are the same capsule, they just come in different shapes that can better suit a voice or an instrument or an amp 👍
@@EmilyMcVicker Tony James, the guy in that show actually had a band called Maggie’s dream in the 90s and had one album released. It was amazing, Favorite song is love and tears.
The epitome of the work horse mix. Yeah… got 6 of these for kit or anything is nothing else that surpasses that application. Best mic for price. Don’t be scared of buying used. Just make sure it’s truly a shure SM 57; many fakes, reproductions of them.
I mean… if you can only have one mic for everything, the 57 is a safe and inexpensive bet.
I agree! Sounds great!

Finally a natural artist/ composer with no fake nails…
Haha is that a thing?!? I mean I’ve had them before… but really compromised my guitar/piano playing
Not my style of music, but your vocals are stellar
I appreciate that Friend! Thank you :-)

@@EmilyMcVicker yeppers good for both! At least on my voice
I love the sound of your Speech Voice and Your Look. Reminds me of a TV Star I had a Crush on in the 80’s as a Kid.

wow, you got the groove and soul inside of your voice, bravo!

It would probably be the same as the sm58. And it already has the pop filter 👍
@EmilyMcVicker thank you! Would the extra pop filter be too much maybe?
Elvis Presley did as well
Oh nice! I didn’t know that 🤗
She was on the Original SNL cast
Who?
at tea time everybody agrees 🗣️🔥
They sure do 😜
Used one for vocals for years on the road, today use Beta 57.
Nice 🤙 haven’t tried that one yet
What is this
pedalboard u used for voice looping?
It’s the rc600. If you go to my page, I have many in depth videos about the different things you can do with it
@@EmilyMcVicker Thanks! I will check it out!!
I did use few times for vocals, but it is a bit challenging on vocals. There is a beta version of 57 that actually works pretty good for vocals.
Oh ya! I am getting some folks that agree they like the beta 57. Nice 🤙
on californication by the RHCP, a sm57 was used on the vocals. there are other examples
Nice 👍
I like this mic, but I think I like you even more Emily 😊. And you're definitely not the problem, lol.
Aww shucks you make me blush! Thank you friend 🤗🥰
Do you need a preamp with the sm57?
Yes it needs gain

Excellent! I like that mic name too sm57 .... just saying Retro next?
Haha 🤘😆
Workhorse for amps and instruments... good job Emily!❤
Thanks Bill! Yes it is a workhorse. I already accidentally dropped it and it still sounds great, so… 🤷♀️

Yes the temptation is real. But it needs to compliment what you’re doing musically - not be the whole show 😜👍
oh.... I have been thinken bout getting one of these mics.
I think it sounds really nice!
Man for 125$ this thing sounds insane!

I have Sure 57, Boss RC-600, and the Roland Street EX for my Roland Fantom-08 keyboard :D

@@EmilyMcVicker You make the RC-600 look SO easy! Thanks for the tips and will plan on showing more on my Channel when I learn the keyboard better.
They do have foam filters for the 57
You can probably find one with a smaller opening
? Not sure what that means. I was just saying shure sells a popper stopper locking windscreen A2WS-BLK is the item number.
Nice but my favorite microphone is the sm58
Súper similar to the 57! Mic preference is a personal thing 👍

better than what?
