Don't be loyal and always look after yourself. No company will look out for you.

my wife is dealing with prejudice in her workplace and we can't prove it. Its only a gut feeling. The way her White manager continually talks over her in meetings to other subtle micro aggressions.

👀 Guy from SHRM was sharp & genuine. I agree with him on all points except one: “Attitude Trumps Experience”….??? Sorry man, you lost me on that. I can’t get bite that one. The greatest attitudes can learn & adapt, but the "end result" is still the bottom line in high-speed environments.

I think you missed the context. He said that for recent grads, who obviously don't have the years of experience, so they have to persuade the hiring managers by showing their attitude to learn, adapt, being open-minded, and stay modest.

@@Cantblendthis Ah yes, then on that, we’re agreed. Thanks for pointing that out.

Isn't it curious that a lawyer became the leader of the HR function (SHRM)?... What he said was generally good, but there are a few misses too. 1) try to be "humble" in the ad industry and you'll fail. 2) Being "stuck in the middle" will be the reality of the majority because there are only a few top management jobs. 3) He came across a bit elitist with his remarks about middle-level managers and Walmart jobs...
