I would like to add that Nate Wood had a big part in connecting me to Tigran as well. I had been playing with Nate as a part of both Tim Miller and Wayne Krantz's trio at the 55 bar, and Nate subsequently recommended me to Tigran about joining his next album, The Call Within. Huge thanks to Nate Wood for the recommendation!
Terrific!!!! Seriously Evan, wouldn't you say that Tigran composed the perfect union between Meshuggah and Frank Zappa after they have all lived in Armenia for some decades? Both musical references come in my mind and it's groovy as fuck of course!!! Plus, your performance here is nothing short of mind blowing. Thank you so much for this.
I love this section. the subdivisions make it feel almost rubato until you see the notation
saw y’all in boulder, i’ve been obsessed with tigran’s music for years and it was such a great show so thank you for making that dream come true for me! y’all were a bucket list show for me for sure
This is wild... even the drum beat sounds like it's swinging.
Saw you at the Boulder, CO show. Y'all nailed it. Excellent show! (posting this with a mere 69 days delay)
Evan, I can't believe I was actually in the crowd at the very show that you met Tigran!
Wow!! Two of my favorites!! Tigran and Evan!! Thank you Evan for teaching your audience and for breaking it down. ❤️
I saw you on tour in NYC 2 days ago. You guys were INSANELY CRAZY GOOD!!!! 4 encores!!! Best concert of my entire life
I can't wait to take a month to learn just that one part
I think this would take me a year..
Really digging this format Evan. Give us all great insight into the workflow of learning a piece of music as well as a quick history of everything leading up to this moment. I love it, keep up the great content!
Last night's Ford concert brought me to your channel. Was awesome seeing you and Arthur, and what appeared to be an extra terrestrial had once again possessed Tigran. I mean, that was out of this galaxy, and then back again.
We have been waiting for you to come with Boulder with Tigran for 2 years now. Can't wait to see you!
The Man !!!
i'm glad this tour with tigran is finally going ahead -- i've had my tickets for over 2 years. but i also had my tickets to see you and dana 2 years ago.. make it happen!
Just saw you guys play last night at Berklee. Absolutely transcendental experience, and then you show up on my feed. Incredible.
Tigran kind of reminds me a bit of Zappa.
Just in the sense that, when it came to music composition, Frank seemed like he was looking for something completely different from everyone else.
And it was amazing.
This is great content Evan!
I am really enjoying you sharing your stories. You are one of the true fresh voices out there. It is an education getting your perspective.
Wow, AWESOME Evan, this is some REALLY hard shit, you do it while smiling and having fun, way to go, right on !!!
This format is fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️
Thanks for sharing Evan! Huge fan of your stuff, (rock your parallels socks from time to time) hahah, honestly you’re incredible and I appreciate your insane bass playing!! See you in Boulder with Tigran!! ;) Been waiting for this since last summer!
the future of bass is in good hands! thanks for this, evan. i found this vid really interesting and insightful. keep it up!!!!
I am so excited to see you guys play in CO on Wednesday, driving from MN to see y'all! Such a great project you guys tracked. World class shit.
That's awesome!
Siiiiiiiiick. Man I'd so be at one of those gigs if I was in the US. I hope you have a blast touring, all three of you did such a fantastic job on that album!
I’m going to give this album a listen now have I never heard this!
Just found out your channel, I would love to see a tour/gear review
Great stuff
Saw you guys in Boulder Colorado. Incredible!!
Hahaha I just spent two weeks shedding this part x)
Your playing is amazing on this album man, blends so well with Tigran's crazy riffs, I'd love to see you on your with him if I didn't live in Europe
i have been subscribed since way back when i saw you play actual proof with mcgregor and hoenig.
I love this, thanks for uploading! I was so excited when I saw you were taking over for Sam Minaie - what big shoes to fill, you crushed it! This section totally reminds me of his song Drip, have you played any of his back catalog?
Was lovely to meet you in Chicago.
gracias por compartir
What an album!
Tigran loves his 5s.
I was at your show in OTtawa and y’all NAILED it 🔥🔥🔥
Just watched the Levitation 21 video for the first time. Wow! So cool. And then I see that you played with Tigran. I've become an immediate huge fan.
Bwahahaha ! Great one Evan ! You sound so great man. Of the younger gen:) you have a thing that’s special!
Tigran with Dhaffer is my favorite Guillana hands down. You are a talented and cool young man! Uber talented and good natured also . Looks great on you
Wow! That’s great stuff Evan!!! What is that bass pls? Looks short scale but great sound!!
Keep on bro - sharing your gift w the world mate!
🙏❤️🙏
Shades of Zappa’s “The Black Page.” I’m seriously digging it!
You are just a wonderful guy and a fantastic musician… ❤
Ouch sounds great !
Wow, that's some crazy shit! Kinda reminds me of clusters within clusters like you'd find on the Black Page or something.
You killed in LA!
Tigran is Genius, but you are Genius as well Evan !
a tip to help people who struggle with the time signatures and the note seperations.think of it as phrasing and not as note seperations. it has worked wonders for me
So fascinating I always wondered how Tigran communicates song structure to the band. Sounds like he gives pretty minimal direction. Have you guys ever messed up/gotten out rhythm in a show? Would anyone even notice lol? Not like us mere mortals really know what's going on anyway haha. Love the music though!
2:58 - 3:04 🤘🏼🔥
I just go tickets to the march 23 show in LA
Te quiero mucho
This is how i feel now trying to transcribe Ikigai 🤷♂️
Dude... NES Super Mario Bros World 1-2... am I right?
...HOLY MOLY 😳😳😳.....
goat
give the sheet music please!!!
without the original mix , it really sounds like the song Drip. same vibe.
When the bassist who played with Allan Holdsworth says the music is hard, that means near impossible.
Bro check out Armenian Space Station please, u will love it. No chance to disappoint
The definition of kinda
Is this 12 tone music?
Yes
The Hardest music Evan Marien have ever learned = The Most Impossible Music to learn for me
I thought a mosh pit was going to break out in Chicago
Lol I liked the video within 2 seconds, then 4-5 secs in and you're in his band! What's so great about "smaller" artists etc is that you can ask them stuff and get responses. Anyway, at times I WANT to hear Cedric Bixler Savala of The Mars Volta to sing over Tigan's music. Has Tigran ever thought about adding vocals? And is the world small enough that he his roads have crossed with TMV?
Hello Evan; Interesting playing. Perhaps you'll get a chance to play Frank Zappa's "200 Motels" someday. I did, here in Paris, France a few years ago. Near the end after letter V, there is a riff of 43 notes spanning 2 measures (188-189). Three groups of undecuplets (10 notes plus 1), then a group of 10 notes - (a decuplet). Your riff seems easy by comparison. Check it out if you can find the music! 😉
i just visited the store, is there no other way to get the bass lines of the album but there is nothing related to this album
boss
It's weird. When I heard it I just started laughing. It's super impressive but on the other hand it sounds like he's just noodling
tigran grindset
