  • Recently, the hot air stopped blowing hot air in my 2000 Toyota 4Runner Limited. It was brutal because of the winter weather we're having here. I read on a couple forums and started to tackle the issue. After hearing the infamous "clicking" sound people mention, I did what they said to do in the forums and flipped the servo gear 180 degrees. I figured it out and fixed the problem. I was unable to find any videos on here so I made this video to help the many others who've struggled with this issue. Good luck!!

It is difficult to comprehend why there are so many views and so few comments. If this video helped you, be kind and give the creator of the video credit. This also enhances the algorithm so more people find this video and save time/money.

I was searching for videos on my 1999 Toyota 4runner cabin air filter replacement & came to realize it doesn't have one, basically you have to clean the blower fan for any debris or dust once in a while. Your video popped up my list & the Tacoma layout are similar to 4runners. For the past two years I been hearing the clicking noise any time I needed to change from cold air to hot air. I knew it was probably the gears being worn. Basically in the Summer I would turn the knob to cold & the gears would start clicking & manually turn the cold/hot valve by hand to set it at cold to make the clicking stop & vice versa during the start of the cold season. The only bad thing about it was the valve was fully on cold or fully on hot. Your video has helped me so much, because now I know where the electric motor is & to fix it. Genius on rotating the plastic gear to 180 degree position, obliviously the electric motor only uses half the gear teeth. Thank you again for the great video 👍🙋

The component he pointed out is called a blend door actuator. I had to replace mine on my 2000 limited. Expensive but easy fix.

Great info. Thank you. I have very little heat when its setting is on hot and not very cold air when the setting is on cold. And i charged my ac system. Maybe the cable is sticking.

Very helpful. I just got a 97 Hilux Surf and lubing the cable and valve helped. If you have the 3L turbo diesel with the intercooler, the valve is in the same spot but the intercooler is in the way.

Great video! Good thinking on rotating the gear to the unused teeth. My issue is a leaking heater core in my 2000 LTD 4Runner. Gonna be a pain.

This issue just began in my '99 limited after replacing the faulty climate control unit. Appreciate people like yourself for taking the time to create these helpful videos.

I love it when a plan comes together! Just finished turning the gear over (missing teeth looked exactly like yours), and everything went brilliantly. Checked the coolant/heater core valve on the engine side and it cycles as designed. All I did with that cable was disconnected it from the valve arm, allowed it to cycle while disconnected and sprayed some WD-40 gel on the appropriate parts. Thank you again for the video and I sure hope more people find this video before wasting time/money diagnosing this issue. God speed.

I'll have to look. You can probably Google which wire it is. I just spliced into it. The wire is under the glove box.
