Patrick, this is a fantastic analysis! I am wondering if you can reduce the part two of this scene, which is a bit odd, to me. The soundtrack features part 2, first, and finishes with part 1.
This is a really interesting cue I had actually never heard before, thank you so much for bringing it to light! I don't know if it's just me, but I hear a lot of Pirates of the Carribean (mostly because of those triplet chords played by horns and vlns/vlas) Also the 'dash motif' sounds similar to another motif used in 'I Can Fly Anything' from The Force Awakens (I think it's in 2M15 The First Escape).
War Horse is a really overlooked score in my opinion, so I’m glad to cover it a bit! I think it’s natural to hear a bit of Zimmer in this particular piece - but it still sounds so authentically Williams. Great pick up about ‘I Can Fly Anything’, I hadn’t thought of that.
@@patricksuiter what i find interesting is how laid back the sequel scores are compared to a lot of JW's earlier works - like compared to how polyrhythmic this score is (and other scores around the same time), the sequel scores feel very straightforward.
@@jofi22 you’re totally right. It’s actually one reason that I feel I haven’t connected with the sequel scores as much as his earlier works. That being said, composing music of that quality in your late 80s/early 90s is still extremely impressive, it is just interesting that his textural style changed so quickly in a few years
@@patricksuiter yeah, i've always wondered what caused such a shift in his style in between the early 2000s and the 2010s - I don't know as much about his music from around 2006-2014 (the non-Star Wars era! 😄), but judging from this score, which was only a few years before the Sequels, the texture was still pretty intricate... i know you probably have a long list of requests, but would you be willing to add 'I am the Senate' from Revenge of the Sith? some really interesting harmony and texture going on there!
@@jofi22 I actually reduced part of that last year. I will definitely finish it at some point, but I’m waiting (perhaps foolishly) for an expanded release of the score, because what’s currently available isn’t the whole cue. I’ll probably return to it at some point regardless - it’s one of my favourite cues from the prequels!
A sad scene from this film and obviously effective music from the greatest to ever do it. As always, Great reduction. Cheers.
Thanks for another great analysis and for providing the pdf.
My pleasure!

Thanks! I’ll add it to the (rather long) list 👍

Wow, excellent work, thanks for this!! Have to disect those amazing jazz chords
John Williams’ jazz influence makes its way into everything of course!
You are a precious man! That’s only i can say…❤
This is not the movie version. This is the version we can hear on the soundtrack.
I discuss this in the ‘Read Me Please’ annotation on the first page
