- Just a quick graphics comparison I whipped up comparing the PS4 version of the game to the Nintendo Switch version. All in all I think it's a pretty remarkable conversion.

The soundtrack of this game makes me feel so happy and nostalgic for some reason.
While obviously a downgrade, I stopped noticing after like the first 15 min of playing. Only when they're side-by-side like this can I truly see how more blurred and everything the switch version is.
The bottom line is: it looks good regardless.
Yeah I played the PS4 version then played the switch version (I have PlayStation my brother ( yes my brother lives with me ) has a switch) it was noticeable for minutes then It just kinda faded back to normal
Legit people can never unsee the massive visual downgrade of the environment! This Dowgraded Version is also now the only version people can buy digitally! And once again, only Pirates can play legitimately and own the game for ever!

Its weird how the switch gets the definitive version. (I'm a switch gamer so I don't particularly mind but) I can see why some PS4 owners feel left out over the extras we have in the Switch version. Like the 3D-2D mode.

Yeah as they say, why would they release a Definitive Version on the same platform? and some of the ps4 owners gets mad about it on how Nintendo gets so much features like:

And the other feature like those Tiny Creature thingy I forgot what those thing, but they pretty small and scattered throughout the map
But the DE will be released on PS4 soon so they get to play the DE if they didn’t own a Switch

Played the demo on switch. I think it looks fine, especially in hand held mode
They basically lowered the rez and dropped shadows to the lowest setting! Pause at 2:21 and you will really see it!

Somehow... I prefer the shading and lighting on the switch a lot more? It looks pretty harsh on the ps4 to me, also the model outlines are thicker

Even the game looking like that on the Switch I never thought that it will run amazing on a console that is less powerful than the PS4, just an amazing port, gotta say it’s one of the best ports for the Nintendo switch I ever seen and really love this franchise 😁
People acting like this is an extreme down grade but it really isn't. This is on the go so I'm perfectly fine with this port

I actually played the first 15 minutes or the PlayStation 4 version and post it on my channel saying it was switch gameplay and I still it's only fans coming to it saying the PlayStation 4 version looks better. So what they were saying was PlayStation 4 footage what's better than PlayStation 4 footage. The fact that he couldn't tell the difference me the graphics are not that downgraded.
@@Ballislife32 Well, it is just graphically inferior. But it's like buying the Portable and the home console version of the game at once, so you get way more for your money. And while it might be the worst looking console version it is by far the best looking portable version. the 2d mode, extra story quests and orchestral music are just the cherry on the cake

this isn't the portable mode though portable mode is blurrier than this.
I'm so used to listening to the midi soundtrack over a 130 hours that the orchestral version is throwing me off.
It does sound a lot better though

I love that it gives you the option of going to the classic synthesized music if that's more your jam.

@@jasondp3546 I loved the game so much I double dipped. I play the Switch version for all of the added content, but I fell in love with the game for the setting, artstle, and the bright, crisp visuals. So personally, the PS4/5 is my preferred version. I'm going through it again on my PS5.
To anyone on the fence about reading this its totally worth it just toned down coloring and some blur besides that it's still the better version. Barely noticeable once your a hour in.

I think while playing, the duller colors will be the main noticeable difference.
The ost is really wonderful...can't wait to listen to it while playing throughout its wide world
And the definitive edition on PS4 and Xbox is just a direct port of the Switch version. So if you want the best graphics, buy the standard PS4 version.
All they really need to add to vanilla is the fast battle speed, probably the quick menu, gathering and ridding features. The rest are things none fan players won’t really care about. Can be done in an update.

The mofos at SquidEnix actually dare to call this the "Definitive" Edition! There is nothing definitive about it! Taking the downgraded Switch version, then do a Bait&Switch to the Original version better looking version!
Graphically in the original, the Foliage/Grass/Environment alone is leaps and bounds above the downgraded Bait&Switch version! Its disgusting!
Yes, the gameplay improvements are nice. But thats worth a Patch, not downgrading the rest of you purchase/product! Not to mention people of the Original game, have to paying full price again! They don't get this version as they should!

If I didn't know the original PS4 version existed, I would be fine with it, but since I have a ps4 and was looking to forward to this, hell no. Going to buy a used original copy instead. Don't even see why they even bothered with the newest S version. If you own a PS4, this is an insult. In gist, don't bring over ports from the Switch.

Honestly I noticed the graphical difference right away on the Switch demo, but within an hour or so it didn't bother me at all.
Ugh the PS4 version still looks great. Like a freaking cgi cutscene. Still i'm looking forward to playing the game again on Switch and putting well over 200 hours into it
The game looks killer on PC with 60 FPS not that it really matter's with this kind of game. I am going to play it for the first time on the Switch my self.

It's so hard to decide. I've seen conflicting videos. I saw a video that looked like the PS4 looked worse because it was ported from switch. I saw pictures on the internet that looked like the exact opposite of this video. But it just doesn't make sense. How could the game look worse on the more powerful console? I'm so confused.
Both look good, but PS4 version looks significantly better.
Unless it's the definitive edition for ps4 then that's just a port if the switch.
Hmm, the polygon count has been reduced on nearly every model, but it still looks decent. A bit surprised no one has mentioned that. You can easily see the difference in the contour on pretty much everything in the game.
It's probably using a some sort of dynamic resolution and temporal AA, hence the lack of contrast. Still a great technological feat I would say.
Sabit Ahmed I think it’s rather a setting of wrong color mode from the capture device. The demo, when docked, is one of the most contrast heavy and saturated games my OLED65G8 has ever seen. But it does look like the PS4 has additional light sources.

Looks like a gray filter or something was put over the switch version.

Honestly, the switch version looks more like an anime. Looks better. The ps4 version looks like a 3D anime which is not how anime is supposed to look. Pretty surprised. Can’t wait to try on my switch

@@bigjawline9235 Yeah, but that still doesn’t mean that it’s supposed to look like his other works, if you look at his dragon quest artwork versus Dragon Ball for example, you can see that while both have similar looking visuals Character design wise, the colors, outlines, shading, and overall tone and style is drastically different, that’s how you can tell that they where going for dragon quest’s artwork visuals as opposed to something similar to anime.

Can anybody confirm if the PC/PS4 version had multitudes of things fade in and out of the screen? Everywhere I go things like trees and rocks just starts appearing as you go along. It's downright ugly on the Switch. It's even worse in heliodor. Some things like lamps barrels, walls disappear and pop in as you go along through it. And mix that with the blurry, pixelated look and you got a downright ugly version.
Also I noticed 1 thing in some comparison videos is that the bridge in the beginning moves like an actual bridge would if you stepped on it on the PS4. But it doesn't move on the switch demo.
That’s called pop in, and it is present on ps4 as well just not extreme, you can’t complain to much when it’s the same game wherever you want with slight downgrades a 5-16 watt portable tablet is playing a game a 100+ watt beefy console is that’s an achievement in gaming it’s just people are spoiled af these days and must not remember the gameboy and DS days a decade ago
Dude Seriousely. 3 years ago if i told you you would be playing this game on a portable gaming system you would have laughed. Now people want the games to look on par with a PS4 ? That's just stupid.
Although the PS4 Visuals are colorful, I have to tip my hat off to Square Enix, Nintendo, and Epic Games for re-porting the title from the ground up... including the fully orchestrated music and more exclusive features not in the PS4 or Windows 10 original version.
The differences aren't noticeable if you don't have the PS4 version running right next to it.

For that people that bought the original game the firsts days, they can't buy the extra content of S version like DLC, they need to buy the entire game again.

Playing the standard ps4 version now. Great game, but wanted to play the 2d mode. Apperently only playable on the definitive version. Which brings the next problem, play the graphically far superior standard ps4 version or buy the game again for the extra content and play the blurry dull coloured Switch version.
Hated it on Zelda as well. The colours and image were all softened up by the lack of contrast/sharpness. Like the screen was hidden behind a layer of mist.
Guess i'll keep playing the standard version for now. Hard to unsee the much sharper image with much more vibrant colours. Perhaps if i really love the game i can buy the definitive version for the 2d mode.
Just play the Demo on the switch. Looks great on the switch in my opinion . And in case you were wondering . I have a PS4 as well.
This is probably the best looking switch port of a AAA game. Side by side, of course there are differences, but if I were to just play it on it’s own, I don’t think I’d notice any of the compromises.
I’m someone who normally cringes when I hear people say that “switch ports look just as great.” As somebody who uses both Sony and Nintendo consoles, I know that this statement is just blatantly false. The difference is like night and day. (I’m not bothered by the switch being underpowered, I’m just bothered by people acting like it’s not.)
But man...this port really impressed me. I think it looks absolutely beautiful.
Check out Catherine Full Body. Somehow ATLUS made it look even better on Switch.

I played the PS4 version and I'll gonna play it on Switch too. Of course there's a visual downgrade but I think that it looks a pretty good port.

I have it on PS4, but never beat it, about 80% through...was considering getting it on Switch but I can't go backwards...it looks noticeably less crisp on Switch and that would bother me.
Even though the PS4 has the better graphics I’m still waiting for it the come to the switch because honestly I need more games for the switch plus it’s where dragon quest belongs on a Nintendo console

I'm really on the fence about this (for PC that is). I own the original on PC but haven't played it yet, should I just wait and play this? Will the graphics really be toned down slightly even for PC?
The graphics will be slightly toned down in areas like geometry, but the textures should be higher res than Switch. There is a demo out for XI S on PS4. If there’s one on Steam I’d highly recommend checking it out to see how you feel about the graphical changes!
@@JRPGCentral Thanks a lot, that's a good shout. I'll check it out now and see how I feel about it, some people are saying they don't see the different after an hour of playing unless it's a side by side, so I doubt it's going to be an issue in the long run
The switch was a huge downgrade. Didn’t look bad on the UA-cam videos until I tried the demo...right after the cutscenes, the grass was really blurry and grainy. I will still buy it tho, but might not beat it. Since I platinumed the game on PS4 and have it on Steam too. I think I’ll rather play it again on PC as it looked stunning in maxed out 1440p...and steam has achievements.

Its crazy how close they got it and even in certain areas its improved becuase they used an enhanced version (a more current update version) of unreal engine 4 on the switch version, because of them essentially being done with dq11 in japan for the ps4
I dont see any improvement in Switch version, its all Blurry and lines of pixel were seen too

The difference is ps4 is 40AUD and switch is 80AUD.

the switch version plays the same, with more content then the original (PC,PS4)
so you're getting more game (new story scenes and quests, 2d mode, past DQ worlds in 2D),
streamlined quicker gameplay in many ways (battle speed increase, faster running around, call horse anywhere, forge equipment anywhere)
japanese or english voices, synthesized or orchestrated soundtrack, or even DQ8 music instead, new costumes for everyone
prob more i've only played the PS4 original version which lacks everything above.

@@leonard9624 you can't patch the Switch's less powerful hardware... The PS4 version definitely looks a lot better. That said, I'll probably still get it on Switch for the extra content. Even though it's the worst version of the game (visually speaking) , it still looks good enough.

It lost alot of details but not in bad way since its Nintendo Switch not PS4. It is a good port in my opinion (not reducing too much of its graphics) unlike The Witcher 3 Switch Edition that becomes so bad and mostly suffers framerate drops i'm so glad that i'm not buying that game on my Switch..
I don't mind the resolution and textures/backgrounds, and I find the pop-in of non-essentials to be tolerable. The main issue I have is the colour depth, the Switch version looks washed out or like it has a filter over it.
In the Switch settings, turn on "full range" for colors. No bloody idea why they have it turned off.
Yeah, that's probably the biggest thing I've noticed on the demo. But after a few hours, I've gotten used to it and it doesn't bug me as much.
Press x > misc> system settings >brightness and turn it down to somewhere between 35-40, I found that made it look better and got rid of the washed out look.

Just purchased Trial of Mana and regret that I'm not getting ps4 instead. DQXI I know which to choose next hahahah

I don't even know how to say this but I love the PS4 version a lot more. Well this game was originally created for it, Switch graphics are like sorta kind of blurry. Dark and shady as well, if only the two ports switched music/soundtrack with eachother. Then PS4 would be awesome amazing masterpiece 100% 🤩😎⭐🌟❤💖
The only differences I see is textures and far away is blurry on the switch version .... but I think the switch version looks good enough to play in portable.... in dock, tired the demo looks good. Perfer to play portable.

The XSX and PS5 I'm guessing offer this at 4K 60fps while the PS4 was 900p 30fps and SLOW combat, why would you play an inferior one with such a low resolution and performance oh and with terrible midid music. Not opposed to midi but sampled some of it on Xbox and much of it was trash.

wow those switch graphics are alot worse in person, now i'm hoping for the ps4 version to get the good soundtrack in order to play this
but atleast the game ran at 810p on switch . but overall a nice port to switch, also the game isnt as blurry as the witcher 3 on switch which ran at mostly 640p.
now that i've been playing the demo more, idk if i could give up it's portability, it's such a perfect type of game for the switch XD

@@fighterbot it's not low quality, and it's not made with a synthesiser. It's made from sample libraries of real instruments. The orchestral version is definitely nicer, but the PS4 / PC version still sounds great.

Jesus Christ, all of you complaining about downgrades graphics or Switch getting exclusive content. Nobody plays Dragon Quest for the graphics. The series has never been graphically intense and I don’t mind the downgrade since it still looks good. And the extra content is to make up for the fact that it took so long for the Switch version to come out. Plus the ten hour demo, the Hero in Smash and other trailers show that Nintendo gives more of a shit in marketing the game than Square did. (I barely saw any trailers for the PS4 version compared to Switch.
Calm down brah. I agree that gameplay and story is more important, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging the graphics have taken quite a hit.
Plus who cares about the marketing? That has nothing to do with anything...
Andy K yeah, I understand. But too many people are just unnecessary complaining about as unacceptable when it isn’t. And I care about marketing since the game and series is seriously underrated in the west. It needs more exposure and Nintendo seems to be doing that.

Something's fishy here. I'm playing the Switch demo and am at 0:34 (speaking with the priest). This vid makes the scene look washed out, but on my screen it looks sharp & crisp including the fine details like the glasses. Also, the close-up scene of "Eleven's" clothing/hilt at 0:04 looks intentionally blurred. It's not as finely detailed as the PS4 version to be certain, but it is FAR closer than this video alludes to. That includes the landscape texturing, too.
I'm calling bullshit on this entire video. The Switch version of the demo is not as good graphically as the PS4 version, but it's a damn sight closer than this channel represents.
(And yes, I own & play the PS4 game, too).

The viewer expects that the content maker will perform every due diligence possible to ensure that the comparison between the two games be as similar as physically possible - same screen, same settings, same recording software, etc.. Why are you creating comparison videos where there are differences in how the games are played and/or recorded? For the thumbnail that shows an obvious difference and therefore to generate the clicks, mayhaps?
Anyway, my opinion may not matter to you, but others will view these comments and come to realize that, while I may be a colossal dick, I'm also willing to call out when someone (you) creates bullshit and calls it a fair comparison.

The switch version seems less cell shaded. The graphical difference doesn't make up for the extra content that the switch version is getting. I'm definitely getting this one on my switch, even if that means no trophies (ouch).

Better to get it for the ps4 unless your overwhelmingly prefer using handheld, not only is it way cheaper on the ps4 but its also clearly the winner in graphics.

Tbh I don’t really mind the small upgrades I do have a PlayStation 4 and a Switch but I’ll buy it for Switch just because I don’t have that many games on it and I wanna make my moneys worth
This video is not accurate at all. I've played through the Switch version on this tv, and it does not look that blurry or dark. It looked more like the PS4 video.
It's definitely blown up in this video. On a 50 inch TV the difference is very noticeable. But if you're playing on a smaller tv or the switch it'll look way better.
@@nickbryant6970 Played it on a 55 inch tv, and it didn't look like this. Both on the tv and on this 24 inch monitor, it looks blurry as hell.
Oof... the Switch version really looks like butt in comparison. Gosh that's gonna bother me. This game looks so damn good, it just feels like such a shame to not play it at maximum fidelity. I feel like I'm just gonna skip it and cross my fingers there's eventually a PS4 release with all the added content :/

The Swartz same. i’m getting the switch for christmas (i took a sneak peak of my gifts 😅) and I’m getting DQ 11. I mean it’s not so bad. Especially considering i can literally take it anywhere. But seeing the downgrade of graphics is pretty disappointing. Especially the shading and ground details. Other than that i’m pretty excited to get it. Plus there’s more content and stuff so it’s pretty impressive.
Ya'll are spoiled and dramatic. What do you expect for the hardware and form factor of the Switch? Lower your expectations. Its amazing how much love this game is getting in general. The amount if content is impressive and the game looks gorgeous and vibrant on my television.

@@Ballislife32 skip it and mind your business. Get the PS4 version. People seemed disappointed by the direct comparison of the graphics between the two versions. The Switch will never look as good as the PS4. Therefore lower your expectations.

Because the PS4 version is older so obviously it will be cheaper now, but the official, digital price is still $60
Also the Dragon Quest games on Nintendo consoles in the west are published by Nintendo for some reason instead of Square Enix, so the discounts won't be as good as the PS4 ones unfortunately.
So how they expect it to sell well if the Install base on PS4 is over 100 million and it is cheaper?

seeing some of you get bent out of shape over the Switch graphics is hilarious. play the demo and you'll realize there isn't much of a difference.
The differences are very noticeable when you already beat the game on the PS4. There is a lot less grass, the shadows and light effects are not as good, some textures are blurrier, there is a LOT more aliasing, the characters have less polygons, etc.
Still, it's a good port considering it's on the Switch, but saying that "there isn't much of a difference" is just not true at all.

I can also confirm this when the demo first came out I played the first 15 minutes of the PlayStation 4 version and I post it on my channel saying it was switch gameplay and I still had so many fans coming to it saying a PlayStation 4 version looks better. So what they were saying was PlayStation 4 looks better than PlayStation 4. So that they couldn't tell the difference means the graphics aren't that downgraded.
I played the demo for a bit, and it looks worse on my switch than this video (in handheld mode). The grass made it much worse. It was both blurry and grainy. I platinumed the game put atleast 100 hrs in it on PS4 and also tried it on my PC too.

eh i honestly dont care about the downgrades. That extra content is nice and i prefer taking it everywhere i go listening to the orchestral versions.
The ps4 version might be superior at graphic aspect, but has no character voice over at cutscene even dont have japanese voice language, the definitive has it and when traveling on worldmap hero not alone, like on ff8, so i will stick with definitive even if i play it on pc...
That's why it's called "definitive edition" 🤦
It is noticeably prettier on PS4, but this game is just begging to be played on Switch.
Steven Bryan I disagree. The switch version looks more like an anime. The ps4 version looks like one of those cgi anime’s that people don’t like.
