Future world number one. People saying sabelenka but I see Naomi as more dominant as she can control her power n play with more margin n spin. She can change pace better n good defense too. Reminds me of young Serena. Hope she n sabelenka brings aggressive tennis to top! This girl has all tools to be double digit slam winner

i think that naomi and sabalenka are the top two players right now but i give naomi the edge. naomi and sabalenka have different playing styles, which makes for compelling tennis. sabalenka seems more in the madison keys where naomi is more in the serena williams mold. naomi is more of a baseline player where sabalenka is more inclined to come to the net. as i see it, naomi has 3 advantages over sabalenka: a)better serve; b)better mobility; and c)more compact ground strokes. sabalenka strikes me as having an edge in mental toughness in that she doesn't seem to give up (naomi is getting better at this, but i still think that sabalenka is more able to recover from being down a set and a break to win).
lately, naomi seems to be thinking really well on the court and is playing smart tennis at a rapidly improving rate. it is getting to the point where she isn't needing on-court coaching to solve problems on the court. in fact, i would consider this to be one of the scarier aspects of naomi's game as far as opponents are concerned.
when naomi is getting first serves in play, she is even more difficult to beat. when you have two big hitters like naomi and sabalenka, i think that naomi's compact swing can make a big difference. sabalenka needs time to set up for her big shots so that she can lunge her weight into the shots. that means that sabalenka may have to step back from the baseline to give herself more time. but in yielding the baseline, she reduces that angles that she has available and increases the angles available to naomi. it also makes it a lot harder for sabalenka to get to the net.

I take huge offence when people say tennis is over after the big 4 retire from both WTA and ATP. (Serena, Venus, Maria, Vika) (Roger, Rafa, Nole, Andy).
It happens all the time, when Graf, Seles retired I’m sure people thought the same thing but then came along Serena and Venus and the rivalling players in Maria and Vika.
Now we have Osaka, Sabalenka, Svitolina, Keys, Barty to look forward to, players are always going to come and go so it’ll be time to say goodbye to our favourites and find new ones, I already love Osaka and Barty.

in the wta, it is time for new players to step forward. for the past decade, there just haven't been any players to emerge who have been able to take the place of venus and serena in terms of catching the public's attention. to that extent, naomi osaka is coming along at just the right time. she is a player who not only has an interesting and compelling personality, but she also has an exciting tennis game. furthermore, she is from asia, which is emerging as a key focus for tennis expansion. naomi has to possibility of becoming a big time international tennis star; possibly the biggest of all time.
in the atp, it is definitely time for new players to step forward. for the first time in tennis history, there are no grand slam title holders who are under the age of 30. embarrassing...
i have never heard any suggestions that azarenka, who is still in her 20's, should retire from playing tennis. so that is news to me.
venus is going to end the year outside of the top 30 and possibly outside the top 40.
serena is still very competitive but she is not the player that she used to be (which should not come as a surprise).
maria sharapova's main motivation for playing is to redeem her image by proving that she can win a grand slam title without using PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS. that means a great deal to sharapova; i was surprised at how much she was complaining about line calls that went against her at this year's US open.

The last 2 months we see Osaka, Sabalenka, Wang & Zhang (and sometimes Siniakova) in extremely good form, rather easily beating down great players like Kerber and Goerges. I wonder if it will last. A year or 2 ago we saw Ostapenko and Svitolina doing the same thing, and then they dropped off significantly. Stephens and Halep have cooled off lately as well. All good by me, enjoying the ups & downs, uncertainty. I do really like Wang, Zhang, Osaka & Sabalenka, but I hope Sloane will find her confidence quickly.

The girl has a really big game... I said it when she beat stosur as a teenager at the Us open! I think that she and Sabalenka are gonna rule the wta like I expected from Kvitova and Azarenka after 2011!
Though both Osaka and Sabalenka have a stronger mentality than Kvitova and Azarenka had at that time!
What I don't like about this girls, is the lack of variation, you don't see a back, a drop shot, volley etc... is all about power, I hope they learn how to use some variation, cause could become legends with the kinda game they can play!

Also they never bring her to the net. It is a glaring weakness in her game, she does poorly at the net. Play behind her, draw her forward and you will see her game fall apart. She needs pace and a lot of it. She is a base-line hoarder, very good at attacking from there, but I fail to see the variety in her game style. Everyone has been talking about her, yet I see similarities to Azarenka when she won her 1st US open and she was virtually unbeatable for about 6 months and then fizzled out in bits at a time. Turned out she was playing with leg injuries, gained too much muscle which affected her movement somewhAt. Bottom line is I wait before I get excited over a new player because most of them have no clue what the responsibilities of being a top player. The weight of pressure can be crushing. I shall see how she does in 2019, now that she is a legitimate slam contender and all the other top players will be watching out for her.
