I think the biggest arguement for taking Zanzibar as Oman is control over the Zanzibar Node, which is one of the easiest trade nodes to artificially make into an End Node via taking the Cape and preventing europeans from taking trade power. It basically grants you complete control of all asian trade until Spain takes the Phillipines.
The sultan of Oman moving to Zanzibar is a historical event: the capital was moved around 35 years after the island became controlled by Oman to better take advantage of trade from Persia and India, and to be nearer to the overseas holdings on the African continent. The British ended up dividing the sultanates once again and eventually fought the Anglo-Zanzibar War, which lasted 38 minutes, often called the shortest war in history. I haven't seen the code for that event in the game, but maybe its a MTTH event and just fired rather quickly for you... but it is rooted in history at least!
Problem with doing Oman for The Third Way is that Mzab also has the achievement for forming Al-Andalus, which is misery squared so if you're going to do that one you may as well knock the other one out at the same time.
When trying to cancel the movement of an army, you should try clicking on other provinces. After changing their destination by clicking other provinces, then you can cancel their movement for some weird reason.
Quarbit: "After 8 years, I'm just gonna take something small and reasonable." Me: He's gonna take the entire coast, isn't he? Quarbit takes virtually the entire coast. Me: Yep, I'm a vindictive bastard against unexpected AI trouble, too.
I did the third way achievement as Oman. This was some time ago, and I made it much easier by culture swapping to Persia for the ideas and mission tree.
To avoid your armies getting stuck, you can try moving them to another province (Not the one they came from). Then they can move back to the province they came from.
The merchant mechanic is absolutely insane. Just with the three starting merchants, you can already easily get 8 ducats from the middle interaction, because so much trade gets funneled to you. Really changed the way I see trade, and merchants.
Fun fact, Zanzibar comes from the ancient words Zanghi Bor (or something similar I don't remember the exact spelling) which meant, in old Arabian: the n-word (hard r) shop This was due to the fact that the majority of the African slaves for the Arabian market came from there
You can restore the Cradle of Gold in Medinah (this is also why ottomans tend to horribly desire this province especially if they take exploration ideas)
for 3k likes I will do the entire third way achievement
A dangerous game, but one I'm willing to play :>
You truly underestimate our common power good sir
Working on it!!
Third way is coming 👀
How about now?

You can also bum rush all the islands in the Indian ocean before Spain and that buys you a decent amount of time to colonize the spice islands

Oman has always been a favorite of mine. So seeing it get a mission tree on top of a government mechanic really was a pleasant surprise.
Quarbit: "After 8 years, I'm just gonna take something small and reasonable."

Quarbit takes virtually the entire coast.

Dang, and here I finished The Third Way just a couple of weeks ago! (As Oman, to boot)

unaccepted cultures in your culture group doesn't have the -2% conversion debuff

oman is great praying we make it to 3k likes
also you played oman in vic 3? wish that made it to youtube
Too bad I cheesed Third Way as Ottomans in a knockoff Billy Mays bullshit exploit. Otherwise I'd love to do this run =(
If you want absurd money and trade power try Venice and take the Most Serene Republic ideas
Oh man.
Congrats on finishing your degree!! I just had my commencement ceremony myself yesterday !!
thank you! and congrats as well
You should play as the maldives and form hindustan
When is next time try to play as hurmuz because they have different mechanics than Oman but with the same idea of getting rich and playing Tall
do you really find it worth to sell titles so much vs having 30% crownland?
yes, especially because selling while having low crownland gives even more money. although keeping it in the 10-15% range is probably better
what did you major in?
computer science
@@Quarbit awesome
Is this hard, cause I play OPM, Yas, and there's no way Hormuz isn't spamming mercs lol
