      I just wanted to thank you Martins. I met you in Myrtle Beach for WSM, and you were incredibly gracious. I was the guy who asked you during the deadlift event to take a picture with a couple of Asian girls. I know that you just wanted to watch the event, but you took the time to make a couple of fans happy, and that's freaking awesome. Good on you for being an authentically good dude.
      This video series is excellent. Strength has always been an important trait, celebrated world wide, and the light that you shine on traditional strength cultures is essential to understanding humanity as a whole. Keep being a good dude brotherman.
      Also, the production on these is incredible, and I hope that these pave the way to even greater things for you and everyone else involved.

    It is great seeing that such an ancient tradition of functional strenght building remains in modern countries. I am aware that in Chinese and Japanese martial arts there is also an ancient killer grip building exercise where they grip heavy ceramic jars filled with sand from the rim. Unfortunately here in Greece stone lifting has not survived in modern times even though in ancient Olympics weightlifters performed an one-handed overhead press with massive stones. There is still one dating from 600 B.C. in Olympia's museum, Bybon's stone, that now weighs 316 pounds and on it is written " Bybon, son of Phola, has lifted me over [his] head with one hand".

    • @sfyrisvasileios7799
      @sfyrisvasileios7799 9 місяців тому +7

      @@viciouslady1340 Unfortunately modern Pankration is not an ancient martial art like grecoroman wrestling for example. Pankration was like mma and no manuals remain save for some moves that are found in most grappling sports. Modern Pankration unfortunately is reimagined by mixing many modern martial arts, therefore a combination of kick- boxing and grappling will be 90% what they do in Pankration nowdays.

      @@sfyrisvasileios7799 "Greco-Roman wrestling" isn't really ancient either, at least not the way its name would suggest. It's likely derived from European folk wrestling and was developed in the 1800s, and then given that name basically to lend it that ancient connection. Sounds cooler, pretty much, same reason why modern Pankration is called that.

    • @persistenceandtenacity
      @persistenceandtenacity 9 місяців тому +2

      No man hits his peak 1rm strength til his mid 30s at the youngest, heck I'm tempted to say I've seen it apply to mid 50s, and if that wasn't his peak it was at least 90%ish of his peak strength - the fact is that you can get stronger at any age, and be strong at any age.
      We can start anytime.
      Go forth. Be strong.
      Whatever we've reached, we can "maintain" the large bulk of it, if not all, on even the most minimal of inputs.
      While best to be active your entire life, even if you weren't the time is now.
      We all start somewhere.
      This is something many don't ever apply.
      They don't age well simply because they don't, never have, actively lived in that direction.
      I've worked with lifetime laborers, dudes shockingly strong...dudes who don't take care of themselves, but have done hard work for decades.
      I've seen people start in the weight room after retirement, and a cool one to witness was a grandma (tall - say 5'9", broad shouldered, in shape, young looking for 65-70, looked an in shape 50-55, and still partly running a family owned restaurant) and her college age granddaughter (very tall - say 5'11", broad shouldered, a tad chubby) the pair regularly deadlifting up to either 275lbs or 315lbs
      THE PAIR AT~67yo AND ~21yo BOTH REGULARLY DEADLIFTING UP TO TRIPLES AT 275 OR 315lbs DEPENDING ON THE DAY.
      I once had a conversation on the gym floor with this cool old timer (71 at the time), the topic of one arm pushups came up, and he got down, banged some out on the spot.
      He hadn't joined a gym til after retirement, told me after awhile inactive just sitting around the house mostly, that he felt that he was declining, and realized without the massive hours he'd spent running a restaurant (funny coincidence - the two unrelated) he had plenty of time, so went out and did something about it.
      The most important aspect is the mindset ; to believe that you're capable, and personally it helps to have internalized the belief that "the natural state of man is one of awesome physicality - we are meant to be strong, in shape, full of vitality for life".
      Then you live with no excuses.
      -J

Like you said, lack of community, compare to Asian countries like this for an example and many social media videos that showcase many elderly doing all types of fitness in a group, ranging from Tai Chi, calisthenics, the out door gym style machines in the parks and to the more recent trends of modern style of dancing. Maybe old homes/retirement community need to implement something with physical activities other than board games and Bingo night.

    This series always gave me flashbacks to No reservations and parts unknown from the late and great Anthony Bourdain, and when you added in that quote from him you gained even more respect from me. Great Job on this series Ive loved every minute of it.
