According to Chris, this was 11 months of work. Chris’s part was the 5th of 6 times he ran through it, and it was Thomas’s 7th of 9 that he did.

My list.... Matt Garstka, Thomas Lang, Mike Mangini, El Estepario Siberiano, Stewart Copeland, Gavin Harrison, Bill Bruford, Joey Jordison, Tomas Haake, Dave Weckl, Chris Turner
I left several "Kings" off the list because they'd be on all lists. And this is the order I believe fits. Matt Garstka has numerous videos and is my current favorite. Now, we've all seen and listened to everything Thomas Lang has and it is tough to have him at #2, even harder is Mike Mangini at #3 since his abilities could have him at #1. I put El Estepario at #4 simply because #1 to #3 were filled and if you asked him he would also put Matt Garstka at #1. Back in the day I would have had Gavin Harrison w/ Lang in the #1 or #2 spots but back in the day there was no Matt Garstka but I would have had him above Mangini since I like his style. Jordison and Haake fit in another sort of area of music that isn't my first choice but their level of playing puts them at the top of the list. Mike Mangini at one time played for Steve Vai but the problem there is that Steve Vai is the focus of his music and Mangini is also a virtuoso. There is a Mangini solo video from when he was w/ Vai and he's playing one handed rolls and then fanning himself w/ modern drummer magazine. Stewart Copeland is one of my most favorite drummers and goes on the top w/ Bruford who was the drummer for one of my favorite bands, King Crimson. Chris Turner is on the end of my TOP list because I haven't had as much exposure to him as the others yet his speed and accuracy is phenomenal. Since he hangs w/ Thomas Lang at some point he might displace someone on the list. Sure Neil Peart, Bill Ward, John Bonham......
Guys, you seriously need to react to the new band “Sion” by Howard Jones and Jared Dines. Their song is called “The Blade”. You will not be disappointed. It’s song of the year already. It’s unbelievably good. I will speak for every person who has also heard this song

Wow that's trippy. Oceans Ate Alaska came through my Spotify yesterday and I havent really explored the band but I specifically liked the drumming in the song I heard
I believe Chris said that he had to make sure Thomas played the middle section exactly how he wrote it so that it would all fit together. Sounds so good!

Fellow hardcore /metal drummer here . . And ya.. Chris Turner is my absolute #1 drummer in the scene. Phenomenal technique everything is so on point it's stupid. It's nice to see him getting the recognition he deserves. Or a little more mainstream-ish anyways ... absolutely ridiculous drummer. Rock the fuck on guys 🤘
Chris Turner and Matt Gartstka are my favorite right now. The funny thing is that since I discovered Chris Turner 5 years ago, nobody has managed to top him in my mind.Thomas Lang is incredible too but not my taste.

Both of these gents have done videos ABOUT Chris writing this and getting Thomas involved. I think he sent him both parts (yeah, it's all written out) to make it clear how they fit together. Pretty impressive stuff - Lang actually seemed to suggest that Turner worked him, NOT something I ever expected to hear from Thomas Lang!
