i really don´t think this technique is a joke, just look at the Pommel Throw in the helmet test, it would certainly disorientate the opponent leaving enough time to finish them of with a strike.

I'd been considering - if judicial fights were ever fought to first unblocked weapon strike, then the pommel through could really "end him quickly" since the pommel, unlike a rock on the ground, would technically be a part of your weapon. Without a helmet, a pommel to the nose could easily result in first blood as well.
Excellent idea! It would be "rule-mastery" but it would work on the technicality. Such events were often about "satisfying honor" rather than actually proving combat superiority. It would be a good way out for everyone.
Interesting idea. I always thought that unscrewing the pommel mid-fight seemed silly, like Skall and most people pointed out, even with the shorter thread. However with this end him quickly reveal, maybe it had meant if you had wanted to end the fight as soon as it began you would throw your pommel. Already have it unscrewed most of the way by the time the duel starts, then a simple turn and you're good to go.

Something that I noticed was that in the pommel throw test you did, the pommel was midair as the sword strike began to come in. The fact that it could have been a joke really makes me smile. It's as if we're on the receiving end of a trolling that was hundreds of years in the making. If only the author could have seen the monster he created.
This comment section is filled with people talking about pommels and ending things rightly. It's a shame you waited 3 years to try to stop it. Perhaps you could have stopped it if you had tried to End them swiftly.
In this context I can see this being effective. In this case the first seconds of the first move are so important. If you can bang their helmet a second before you are in striking range that is enough for the advantage. The sound and shock would blur their vision long enough for you to quickly change your strike. They are still in position to guard the feinted strike you broadcasted before you threw your pommel.
It makes a lot of sense to distract the opponent by throwing something and then charge in while they regain their bearings. That could certainly end the fight quickly.
If someone made the pommel much more deadly against opponents, then either the person took it literally, or decided to make a *KILLING JOKE.* Think I heard Joker jizz for a second there.
When i played football as a kid, i was on 1 on 1 situation vs the goalkeeper, suddenly he throw his shoe at the ball. It was shocking, i lost my focus and he caught the ball
Well, I mean, if somebody were to throw something at you, you'd automatically focus your sight on it, which would give your enemy a chance to attack. Even if the pommel were to miss it's target, it'd still fulfill it's role as a "decoy" of some sort. That's what I think, at least.
Damn!! That was brilliant. I didn't catch you unscrewing it at all. It definitely would have wrecked me. LOL Nicely done. I definitely agree with you. This definitely seems to have a possibility for actual use in combat. Thank you very much for this video. The first one was definitely a poor attempt at exploring the subject.
That last pommel throw at 10:28 would actually make more sense if you went for an underswing, you threw it at the head, the "enemy" would raise the shield (if applicable) to deflect and you swing in from under.

Seems like it could actually work now that we have more information on it. I feel like it would be more useful to throw the pommel high and cut low, or throw low and cut high to try to bait their buckler into a good position for the pommel-er.
I actually grabbed my sword at the beginning and pointed it at the screen saying "LET'S GET THIS OVER WITH" But damn your moves were too fast I died rightly.
The US Marines had their own version of ending someone rightly in ww2. They were taught, as a last result in in a knife fight, that they could flick their helmets off towards their enemy and then knife or club them.
Jey096 If it's like that, then it isn't even a fucking meme. It's actually the only "meme" that I've ever come across that has pissed me off after the first week. Its not fucking funny at all. If you still think it's funny, then you're a fucking normie.
When you try to kill a meme it gets stronger, like the zoo trying to get people to stop Harambe memes, or Hilary Clinton raging about Pepe. If you want to kill a meme, letting the internet know is the worst thing you could do.
Personal guess: when a "missile" is thrown at you, I think your reflexes will have you trying to deflect it away. Best solution: use your buckler and with some (bad) luck also distract your attentionbut leading you to stand for a moment wide open to the fiercest lunge your opponent will be able to launch at you. This would also explain the advice given to the target to keep his buckler close to him for obvious reason... This leaves the question of a specially constructed sword pending....
It seems like a dirty technique that would totally work. Hear me out. Throwing something at someone suddenly can catch them off guard and interrupt what they were about to do. This would give the thrower a slight time/tempo advantage to execute their own technique when the person was stunned. It would have to be a surprise in order to work. That's why he is throwing his pommel not a rock. Japanese straight shuriken throwing uses the same principles.
Maybe throwing the pommel mainly served to distract the opponent: to trigger a reflex where he would block on the side from where the pommel is coming while you strike from a different angle, literally catching the opponent off-guard. btw: this channel is awesome so I'm subscribing.
I saw such an idea earlier while scrolling through the comments, the poster even said that the defensive measure against it may just be keeping your buckler in place and staying calm and ready for the inevitable assault.
Yes, but in a sword fight things can go very fast, so people tend to react on impulse instead of ratio: you see something coming at you and you react instinctively by moving your stance/buckler/shield/sword to block or evade the "attack". It may take just a split second before you realize that it's a pommel coming at you instead of a sword blade, but that split second may be enough for your opponent to deal a fatal blow at a (now) unprotected part of your body. Ever had a piece of pie sliding off the plate? Rationally you know it's best to just let it drop, but it goes so fast that you react on instinct and close your legs to catch it, getting pie all over your clothes. ;-)
I actually won a Mordhau duel by using this technic strictly as described : both of us were low life, I threw my pommel at my opponent, he parried, and I just rushed into a thrust and killed him. OK it's a video game (and actually not the most historicaly accurate) but if my opponent was disturbed there, why not in a real life duel?
Nigel Thornberry he said he watched the whole video. It's about 13 minutes long and when he commented he said he watched the video and that he sped up the video but that still means he didn't watch the whole video.

Mason G and I'd be shocked by you being shocked but I'm honestly not, as should you, not be shocked that is.
It's like that with most memes i think, i don't find most of them funny at all. Maybe i have a weird sense of humor.
I see everyone complaining about this but when I take a look at the comments there's way more people whining about people whining about Skallagrim not finding the joke funny.
The first day it was uploaded it was 90% complaints about the video with 50+ thumbs up
I just got here, literally just found out about the meme two days ago.
Is that your critical animation if you were in Fire Emblem, Skall?
Honestly I thought this was the last place I'd find you 😂
I can actually see the pummel having the ability to 'blind' the opponent if it manages to catch a point on the helm that causes it to turn and misalign with the opponent's view.
Man, Skallagrim knows how to end a meme rightly...
Psst, hey, it's a guy from the future, it didn't work.
The meme is still going strong
It has not yet been ended rightly, 2022
What is it was a meme back then and skall accidentally revived a meme that normies had tried to kill.
bearlyrandom speaking of old memes illuminati confirmed!!!
Wes Inabnitt why, i mean how?
thats the beauty of the meme, it wasn't the normies that tried to kill it, it was the exact opposite. It was a meme that killed normies. Like the "vaccines cause autism" meme today made to be birth control for stupid people
Jon Snow you know what “breatharians” are? They’re pretty much the ultimate tard testers.
Jon Snow Vaccines REALLY do cause autism!!
Scrolling through my subscriptions and I see "Okay, Let's Talk Pommels and Rightly Ending", uploaded by Skallagrim. Immediately, I knew this was serious.
That's why I use nokia phones as my pommels
oh....you monster!!!
Zack Dumbledore you better not have wrapped them in flex tape then reinforce it with what ever this riot shield is made of ua-cam.com/video/GdX4_DFC0zU/v-deo.html
ppl were killing eachother by throwing pommels left and right back in the day. that is my head canon and so it shall remain.
The fact that it could have been a joke really makes me smile. It's as if we're on the receiving end of a trolling that was hundreds of years in the making. If only the author could have seen the monster he created.
The beginning totally took me off guard. Well played sir, well played.
This comment section is filled with people talking about pommels and ending things rightly. It's a shame you waited 3 years to try to stop it. Perhaps you could have stopped it if you had tried to End them swiftly.
themambawarrior2 okay, that was actually funny. You've got my upvote.
I'm going through the entire comments section on a mission to downvote every pommel joke but this is kinda clever, here's an upvote.
that's a noble mission. good luck at that
themambawarrior2 : There is nothing wrong with pommels and ending them rightly. No need to discourage this.
So pommels are medieval stun grenades.
If someone made the pommel much more deadly against opponents, then either the person took it literally, or decided to make a *KILLING JOKE.*
Think I heard Joker jizz for a second there.
Good joke, take my upvote.
So it would be both right and quick to end this damn joke? I'm ok with that
It could have been a meme for example someone did it in a dual and it become a joke
When i played football as a kid, i was on 1 on 1 situation vs the goalkeeper, suddenly he throw his shoe at the ball. It was shocking, i lost my focus and he caught the ball
maybe it was a dig on some sword manufacturer that was making way too heavy sword pommels.
Thank you for making this video!!!
Top 10 anime battles ended rightly
Sean Ocansey
The last one will surprise you.
He ended the meme rightly
quickly*
Rafa Aquino 3 years is not quickly in this medium.
Right quickly? Why not keep both?
+Dark Enforcer Damnit I was gonna post this comment but I was watching The Last Kingdom... gg..

New meme: *Replace pommel with flashbang*
Throwing pommel might not deal damage, but it can certainly suprise opponent
Pommel throw is the equivalent of medieval pocket sand
End him Shwifty
Extremely underrated joke.
this is underrated right now, but with some collective effort, we can make this a thing.
Who's with me?
phileas007 yes lets gather an army
Ameisen Mensch Pommel Rick!
*show me what you got!*
-throws pommel into face
Well, I mean, if somebody were to throw something at you, you'd automatically focus your sight on it, which would give your enemy a chance to attack. Even if the pommel were to miss it's target, it'd still fulfill it's role as a "decoy" of some sort. That's what I think, at least.
distraction is a viable weapon, after all
One does not simply end a meme rightly.
Good job on the discreet pommel removal & throw. I wasn't expecting it when you did it.
Meme will not die for some time. It is still being used. You have become a legend.
I just heard about this technique and I was like *ehh?*
Skal : "pls try to make funnier joke instead of senseless spam"
UA-cam comment section : "omfg Skal is litterally hitler and the antichrist combined"

@@RomanSwak Is that a sound of the pommel being thrown or am I missing the joke?
@@spartankongcountry6799 that is the name of a subreddit where people who misunderstood jokes are posted for all to see. This user above me thought the joke went over my head, when in reality, it went over his.
You two should have a duel to figure this situation out. Duel wield pommels and no special armor. Ready, go!
2:35.....so...your telling me...that end him rightly as it is written in the manuscript....is actually the first ever recorded evidence of clickbait? WE NEED TO MAKE THIS A HOLIDAY! End them rightly day? Festival of pommels? Oooohhh...lets replace all the dodgeballs at the gym to pommels and boom!......DODGEPOMMEL!!!
custom made double pommel, first pommel for show, second pommel actually hold sword together
Seems like it could actually work now that we have more information on it.
I feel like it would be more useful to throw the pommel high and cut low, or throw low and cut high to try to bait their buckler into a good position for the pommel-er.
You sir are the master of practicality.
I actually grabbed my sword at the beginning and pointed it at the screen saying "LET'S GET THIS OVER WITH"
But damn your moves were too fast
I died rightly.
wow
Chuck Norris once tried using the pommel. He didn't merely end him rightly, he also ended him leftly.
The US Marines had their own version of ending someone rightly in ww2. They were taught, as a last result in in a knife fight, that they could flick their helmets off towards their enemy and then knife or club them.
You just made one big mistake, you told the internet to stop doing something. So be prepared to get even more pommel jokes.
Jey096 but it's a meme, so it dies that way
Jey096 If it's like that, then it isn't even a fucking meme. It's actually the only "meme" that I've ever come across that has pissed me off after the first week. Its not fucking funny at all. If you still think it's funny, then you're a fucking normie.
The only way for a meme to end rightly is for it to be used _even more_ to the point that _everybody_ starts to get tired of it.
Phi6er thank you ffs
The only funny thing here is that you consider yourself such a special snow flake that you are not part of the "normie" people.
When you try to kill a meme it gets stronger, like the zoo trying to get people to stop Harambe memes, or Hilary Clinton raging about Pepe. If you want to kill a meme, letting the internet know is the worst thing you could do.
Give it a few more years and the pommelite church will be a thing.
Thanks to a meme, you've become a world class expert on the historicity of pommel throwing.
I've never clicked on a video so fast in my life
Don't you mean quickly?
Don't you mean pommeled??
hello, now we are m&m
It's been 3 years, looks like Skall hasn't ended this meme QUICKLY.
YOU CAN TAKE OUR LIVES, BUT YOU WILL NEVER TAKE OUR MEMES!
That's how cannonballs were so effective, they're basically just huge pommels fired at something
At this point. If it is effective it’s just gonna be double the meme
Rationally you know it's best to just let it drop, but it goes so fast that you react on instinct and close your legs to catch it, getting pie all over your clothes. ;-)
Next match I'm throwing my gloves at my opponent before attacking
In some duels the "first hit" counts - throw pommel at them - hit - victory (according to the rules of the non-deadly duel)...
The key to this technique is turning the correct way to unscrew it. Remember, "Rightie Tightie, Leftie Loosey"...
Ghost Witcher RIGHTey tightey... End him RIGHTly... IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!!!
+gabriel ferraz Righty tighty. So to end him rightly is to tighten your pommel?
cxx23
Mordhau. It's clobberin' time.
cxx23 maybe, i mean who knows I was just trying to conspiracy meme
In Medieval times there were many non-standard threaded screws in which it was the opposite of "Rightie Tightie, Leftie Loosey."
Did someone say P O M M E L S?!
Edit: Watched the video. Am ashamed.
JayySpacey the video hasn't been out enough for you to watch it
Firebat2451 You can speed up and slow down vids.
treynaylor3 that still means you didn't watch the whole video
Firebat2451 wut
Nigel Thornberry he said he watched the whole video. It's about 13 minutes long and when he commented he said he watched the video and that he sped up the video but that still means he didn't watch the whole video.
Now it's in for honor! HAHAHAHA. It will never die.
What you said about the pommel thing being a possible joke was very interesting to me. Medieval and classical humor can be pretty impenetrable to us.. anyway I really like how you consider things from so many different angles and try to be as objective as possible. Love your channel.
I could actually imagine that someone pulled that off once and won the duel and everyone was so amazed and surprised, that it made word and they wrote it in the book. There has to be some background to this.
