  • Having razor sharp pointy dagger laying around the house isn't a good idea. So I made it a sheath :)

    You are my favorite UA-camr, it’s mainly the aesthetic of the videos. Plus you inspired me to leather work as well as repair and make my own tools. Love your videos and look forward to every upload. Also great work on the sheath👌🏻

      Make N' Create ha, I almost threw my phone when I saw I got pinned. That made my day. Keep up the good work and I’ve seen lots of comments about a shop tour and I thought that would be cool too.

    Such type of sheath is good for storage or display, but not for wearing and active use. Needs hard insert inside to not cut through the sheath or your leg when putting dagger back into it. Like classic puukko sheaths. Other than that, looks cool and soldering with forge is interesting technique. : )

    Great job, I couldn´t make something like this even if my life depends on that. I have seen some guys making their scabbards and sheathes with a soft aluminum sheet, and then wrap the leather around, this gives them great shape.
    I like the way you made this though. Thanks for sharing.

    Although i do not like oversizing of blade itself and personaly i would use more hardened leather for sheath, it's still an amazing work, one of the best i've seen.

  • @awldune

    Great job! I really like this knife. But wouldn't a stiffer leather have been better? This leather looks very soft and bendable.

  • @thefreewayoctopus
    @thefreewayoctopus 5 років тому +1

    Looks great. Best (and only) sheath I ever made was a couple of leather scraps backstitched (what kind of stitch did you use, it was sped up too fast for me to see) together with cotton string that was held onto the knife with a red rubber elastic. Also, I really like the brass tip idea.

    For next time I would suggest you make a wooden core so the dagger does not cut the leather sheath.

      I had a hard time figuring it out if I should make it stiffer but I decided that if It was practically gonna be stitched to something (say a pair of pants) I'd rather have it able to flex a bit.

    I must angrily comment and dislike the video. It's a "Fairbairn Sykes dagger", not a "Fairbairn sykes Dagger", and that instantaneously invalidates all your skill and craftmanship! ;-D
    (no, seriously, I fully expect people to angrily comment failing to get the layered "grammar nazi complains about WW2 weapon" and "he's giving him SAS about the name" jokes)
