- Bad Chad fabricated a c-notch for the chassis. Everything is tacked in place, so now I'm going to weld it up. I haven't welded in a while, so I'm kinda excited to get back into it 👩🏼🏭🔥

First kodo's to learning to weld but that's a Weird way to weld. One continuous bead from end to end is faster and is the industry standard.
And way stronger.

You don't have to dot dot weld on that gauge metal once it's tacked you get better Is penetration with a steady weld
As a retired 30 year welder, the idea when mig welding is a continuous welding bead. The right combination of heat, wire spead, and moving the welding gun, leaves a perfect penatration solid welded seam. None of that spot weld on top of spot weld is correct, that leaves pinholes in the weld. But if its the way you like to do it, its your car and your prerogative to do it how you like it. @@PaulBlatchford-z6j For the number of years Chad has been welding he doesn't even understand the two functions on his mig welders. Until Lincoln gave him the new welders ( a decision they probably regret ) he was welding everything he worked on with a 110 volt unit ! Dumb, dumb, dumb !!!
I've never seen anyone fill gaps w a mig w a coat hanger ....we used hangers in the 80s cause we gas welded exhaust junk cars....coat hangers are the worst metal possible.....as far as Lincoln regretting giving him welders....I'm sure they do....he prob bad mouthed them for his own screw up.....but these days 110 and 220 are not really too much different....i have a new inverter that welds awesome on either....but for 1/4 i use 220v...the mess they are making is not safe....i would have mig welded uphill or done an open corner w my tig
Brother, you are correct, coat hangers were for gas welding old junk. Any good weld would never do the Chad spot welding style of welding. Any strength welding, I would stick weld with 7018 rod, either 3/32 or 1/8 7018 would be a strength weld on a car frame. TIG welding we did in the shop, because none of us had a TIG welding machine back in the day.

Definitely do not take this the wrong way because I love your show and everything you do but tacks are fine for sheet metal but you need a continuous bead for that thickness of metal so it will be strong, you don't ever see pipe welders tack a whole pipe together. It won't take as long either. But it is your project and I know it will be great when you are finished. Thanks for all your videos
@@tonyshoemaker7483 As long as she is getting full penetration for the thickness of the pieces being welded together and there is no gapping between each spot weld, it'll be just fine. It's not rocket science bro as much as a certified welder might want to claim, lol.

Maybe for sheet metal but all the welding on the C frame could have and should have been continuous. Set the machine properly thus weld properly! I know what I'm talking about. Code certified 40 years experience.
Jolene! Stop the spot welds and keep welding, penetrate the weld in the grooves and don’t just spot weld on top , your doing great go with it

I think someone should show you guys how to weld properly on heavier materials like a chassis. Stops and starts can cause cracking , cracking can cause catastrophic failure. Short little stops and starts on body panels to eliminate distortion is one thing. But doing that on heavy material it makes me cring
stops and starts does not cause cracking. I have been welding for over 30 years neer seen that.

Jolene, Would you mind getting some jeans that are a tiny bit shorter up top? As for the welding your method is more for sheetmetal. For proper penetration one continuous weld is stronger and better and faster. If the MIG welder is set right you can easily weld 1/8" plate without burning through. In fact it is VERY hard to burn through 1/8" plate even if you are many Amps hotter than you should be. You also won't get any inclusions with a single pass because the shield gas envelope will be constant and it will be MUCH faster. You will also save gas if you have a post flow timer. There are so many befits of doing it the right way. Since you are not worried about using a grinder please take my advice. I know you are very smart so please listen. It is not bad if you are better than Chad at welding as most females that weld are better. It is a known fact.
Maybe look at see if you can take a welding class,all this spot weld on top of spot weld,is really not the best way to weld up frames and other stuff,a continuous weld would be the best way to do this job,just ask anyone who does welding for a living,they will be honest with you.
Every body is tell you great job and good teach all you are doing is a thousand tac weld a continuous bead would penetrate better look better and you alway say same money you wouldn’t have to use grinding disc sorry not buying what cheap chad bad work is selling

The ultraviolet radiation from welding causes skin cancers, proper safety clothing is required that blocks 100% of UV rays, fumes from welding also cause lung cancer, therefore I recommend a decent PAPR breathing system... Please God don't let her talk as much as Chad does.. lol Go get'em..
Jolene you should be able to run the bead right down the metal without stopping.
I think she would burn thru the one eight edge of metal.
Keeping the heat down so you don't warp the metal. And as long as you have penetration then it's fine. Yeah you can lay a bead down but your metal has a better chance of warping the metal than you do just laying one tack at a time.

I did a little welding myself but what Jolene does is stopping the weld a little too soon.... Chad should really remind her EVERY time longer longer longer .... and maybe try a bead of 2 cm or something so she can train her welding skills....

Not sure I have seen this technique used on anything but sheet metal before.
For future mig welding, you can down hand a weld bead on what you were spot welding. Stronger and Looks better as well. Chad she welds better than you. 👌 Also, for safety, hang a piece of leather from the bottom of your shield to protect against harmful UV Rays and neck burns.
