I’ve seen some people criticizing my take that “misgendering someone isn’t an act of violence”. Like a lot of disagreements, this comes down to what definition of violence you use. The most commonly used definition of violence is the Britannica definition: “an act of physical force that causes or is intended to cause harm”. However, some people extend the definition of violence to also include any act that causes people mental harm. Under this definition, purposefully misgendering someone could be considered an act of violence. However, under this definition, any time someone insults someone else, that could be considered an act of violence towards that person, and I just don’t think that’s what most people mean when they use the word “violence”. In this video I’m operating off of the definition that violence requires a physical action, but if you use a different definition, that’s fine. Definitions can often be very subjective
there is a big difference between an insult and a comment used to deny or insult someone’s systemically oppressed identity/identities. purposefully misgendering people adds a drop in the bucket to harm against trans people, i personally believe it is an act of violence because it’s not only saying you do not exist to me it is also saying people like you should not exist. purposefully misgendering someone implies hatred not just of that person but everyone like them. it is a microaggression yea, but it’s still an aggression. act of violence sounds extreme but people who misgender others on purpose know what they are doing, they know the hurt, they know the harm. they know what they are normalising. wouldn’t you think anti-trans bills are a form of anti trans violence? or flat out hatespeech? i don’t personally think you need to physically harm someone to act out violence. yes misgendering is a small thing, but it all adds up. i feel like not calling it violence softens it’s impact quite a bit. edit: sounds like im trying to argue, i’m not im just stating why i personally disagree with what you’re saying. i know you probably understand that but i’m putting this here cuz i don’t want anyone to think i’m hating or something.
Mental harm is included in harm, obviously. It’s a given. That’s not two different definition/interpretations. Just like how verbal abuse is, in fact.. considered violence. And purposely misgendering someone even after they have informed you of the correct pronouns/name is verbal harrasment, which is harmful and degrading, thus violence. It’s not as subjective as you make it out to be.
@@LordOfElysium I think you meant "objective" as "subjective" is an opinion. However no you're wrong. The definition of violence clearly states "physical harm". Words have meaning.

As a trans guy, I can get into my correct gendered sport by just doing a bit of signing and letter sending. For trans women the process is much more rigorous, because they believe trans men will fail and trans women will succeed. Trans men don’t need to fight because we already have what we want, unfortunately due to ignorance.
I know right? I’m trans too and you’d think they’d be more upset cause like, we’re the ones literally injecting testosterone into our bodies? But i guess not
i’ve seen several trans men forced into women’s sports, and then harassed for being in women’s sports while on testosterone. I’m specifically thinking of an ex highschool wrestler. (90% sure he graduated. he was older than me and i graduated a few years ago) i’m sure he not even close to the only one
Trans men aren't a threat to men sports cause no trans man can compete with a real man in physical sports, you're still born a woman and no amount of testosterone you take can close the gap whereas trans women have an inherent advantage over the other women cause they were born male so a guy who was bottom rank 500 against other men can go be the best female swimmer when they 'transition' a year later, they didnt win cause they was just a better swimmer but because they had height advantage, bigger hands, bigger feet, stronger lungs, broader back, etc.

Purposefully misgendering someone is disrespectful. Disrespect can lead to hate speech. Hate speech will definitely lead to violence. Why is it so hard for people to show basic respect to others?
It's not difficult. My best friend had conservative opinions regarding pronouns, and I think it's mostly from a place of not wanting to subscribe to pronouns because she sees it as something that shouldn't be cared about, to her it's not a matter of respecting it's a matter of expecting politeness and something that would take too much energy. I personally would rather respect people's pronouns but, you know, I understand her point of view. We need more empathy, we shouldn't consider people with different opinions as people who are entirely illogical because it just causes confrontations, just as disrespect does.
@coffeeman1434 that take is so bad it makes my head spin She doesn't think pronouns should be "cared about" and thinks using someone's pronouns would be "subscribing" to something they don't agree with It's just the stock conservative bs. They don't think trans people are valid/real so they don't think the "ideology" should be "subscribed" to. They're not pro trans if they're saying they know better than trans people what is important... for trans people.

even segregating sports based on hormone levels doesn’t work because there are cis women with low E/ high T and cis men with high E/ low T, there’s already been at least one instance that i know of where a cis woman was transvestigated bc her T levels were too high
It's also very often women of color and intersex women who get investigated, because they (not always) naturally have a higher amount of T than white perisex women who are treated as the standard
The true thing they'll never get is not only is gender a spectrum but so is sex, but they gotta oversimplify to the point of falsehood for 'science' to match their agenda lol
There is a olympic woman (semenya(?)) that was banned because of hormone level policies if I recall correctly. I don’t know if it went through but it was something I read about new policies on women sports Dumb AF when you have genetic freaks praised (Bolt and Phelps, for example) but if you are a woman, is magically unfair
Yeah my friend did a project on how a lot of cis women athletes have T levels over the max level allowed by their division, so they weren’t able to play. So sad
As a woman who is married I am so tired of this misgendering thing being excused because it's "asking too much of people to get the right pronouns". I'm imagining this same level of anger and resentment from high school friends who still use my maiden name, who I then correct. The idea of me correcting them, and them getting ANGRY and DEFENSIVE over the idea that I'm no longer the name I was born with is kinda funny. Another, very common, situation is the fact I am called "Ms.", and sometimes I bother correcting and saying "Mrs" and surprisingly, no one gets upset. Even tho I was born "Ms." I also play a lot of games online, and often pick a male character (plethora of obvious reasons why). I'm fine being called guy terminology by a group, and again, no one seems angry when they find out I'm a girl. They just adjust. Even tho they "knew me as a guy". It's almost like we do this consideration for people all the time already.
Of course you're allowed to do these things it's because you're cis and "normal" whereas trans people like me aren't normal and are "freaks of nature" so we don't get the same rights considering we're not considered human.
it’s almost like names change and playing a male character in a fictional video game has no baring on your chromosomes? where as chromosomes do not change and determine the sex you will be for your entire life?

The bit about “your trauma is not my problem” is so ironic for a group of men who make their trauma women’s problem. Have some fucking human decency and care about people. I don’t necessarily care about what others think of me, but that doesn’t stop the country I live in from infringing on my rights.
That is true. The incel community who look up at Andrew Tate as gods tend to blame modern society for their trauma of being "undatable" because women are independent. Therefore, they seek attention online because "all women are bad." Yet when these same individuals make shit hard for the trans community by being assholes and spread transphobia, it isn't their poblem that trans people are treated like shit in society? Ugh
Just to clarify: what do you mean their trauma? Being heartbroken is not trauma. Being raped, is trauma, being attacked and fearing for your life is trauma, seeing someone die, is trauama, etc. Lots of things are trauama but I don't see how some guy being heartbroken means he endured trauama?

Ryan, as a trans person, I tend to agree with you on trans issues. I find the idea of segregating sports according to hormone levels to be highly problematic, however. Beyond playing into bioessentialist rhetoric about sex and gender, this idea seems to violate people's right to privacy in their medical affairs by enabling sports organizations to test, record, and surveil personal medical information. And who should we put in charge of overseeing this medical test--given the historic harm that medical professionals have perpetuated on trans people, I find it hard to suggest that we should submit to some random medical professional's authority to be the arbiter of whether a trans person is allowed on a certain team. This is further complicated by the fact that hormone levels change over the course of a lifetime and based upon medical interventions. Should adolescent kids be subjected to this kind of medical testing as they are navigating their bodies and relationships changing? This seems like it would cause undue harm to trans kids as well as cis kids.
No hate but don't you think there is a huge problem with talking about trans kids as something normal?? I obviously make women uncomfortable simply by walking into the bathroom silently and trying to piss. What do you suppose i do? Trans women in sport is such a tired non-argument that these people always go to. There's no underground conspiracy of trans women looking to dominate gendered sports categories. This reminds me of how Laurel Hubbard, a trans woman bodybuilder, competed in the 2020 Olympics in weightlifting and people were up in arms about it, ignoring that she just didn't do all that well. It also reminds me of the story I heard about a young trans man I forget the name of competing in amateur wrestling for his school against females because he's not allowed to compete against biological males. These are the stories I think of, not some imagined event where somebody born of one gender dominated the sport of another.
No doubt! If it were such a huge issue, why have they to trot out Riley 5th Place Gaines to whine about the swim meet she lost a decade ago? Shouldn't there be just tons of female athletes to choose from to interview, instead of the same single person over and over?
This arguement is completely detached from the reality that men are stealing women's careers, sports, and awards that are meant for women. If women were equal to men physically then why were womens sports created? Use some critical thinking skills....
Laurel Hubbard entered the Olympics in 2020 at the age of 43. The average peak of performance for Olympic weightlifters is 26. Laurel Hubbard only started weightlifting 8 years earlier and still qualified for the Olympics while being unfit and far out of the prime age range. There are many examples of Trans women doing well due to a clear biological advantage, but there are none for trans men. Trans men generally aren’t covered because they don’t do well, especially at larger events such as the Olympics. I fail to see how this is a non-argument.
@@TheybyBaby She's been one of the only female athletes who competed with a trans woman to speak of this because most women and people, in general, don't want to be mocked and ostracised for being transphobic. There are many women who have been beaten in sports by trans women who likely would speak out if they weren't nearly guaranteed to be mocked and called names like "Riley 5th Place Gaines" was.

Misgendering someone can be violent, the way a white woman screaming to suggest an innocent black man is threatening her is violent. It can be indirect violence but it has the intention of creating harm. That said, I would never expect people like that to CARE about the harm of misgendering people. I think it shouldn't be illegal any more than screaming, but just because it's legal doesn't mean we can't all see wtf you're doing and be critical of it.
yeah theres plenty of immoral stuff thats not illegal, like cheating on ur spouse. the law shouldnt be used to police all of morality, esp when the justice system is so flawed and often used as a weapon. doesnt mean misgendering isnt shitty, and there are and should be punishments in certain places, such as workplaces, medical centres or schools, where it would fall under anti-discrimination laws
I saw a few clips from him talking about stuff unrelated to lgbt+ and I honestly thought he made good points, there os one where he says “you can’t shame a woman for profiting from adult content if you are the one creating the demand”. He basically called out men that complains about “women not being modest anymore” yet objectifies every woman he sees. Seeing him talking about trans men and sports like this made me reeeeeeaaaaal confused. Genuinely think/feel that disco head man is actually chill and if he ever gets correctly in a respectful debate he would be like “ayo… you got a point” Anyways it is great that you are making this video, unfortunately, regardless the messenger, the message abou trans and gender identity in general can be a bit wrong due to the amount of rage bait and misconceptions of how it works, and the lack of interest to actually searching for the topic and educating ourselves.
honestly man I originally thought the points he made were really good, but as I went on it just turns out he's some dude talking about topics he doesn't fully understand. it's like those kids you hear in class arguing about something using the tactics they see online. I do hope you're right, though, that he'd be able to understand the other side. He's had decent takes in the past, and it's really easy to cloud your mind with all the transphobia and hate spreading around. all in all, still, we should all just stay out of topics we don't know the whole background on and faintly heard somewhere else.
Thats what i was thinking too? He has some takes that are actually good and interesting to think about, some of his like lgbtq and dating advice are things I avoid because I just don't agree with them.
That seems to be the issue. Nowadays whenever anyone is critical of anything woke, even if they're reasonable about it and make fair points, they're a bigot, and whenever someone is against racism, sexism, transphobia etc. they're a woke sheep. Anti Prophet has a few bad takes, sure, but he's overall very reasonable to most of the time does good research. I've never seen a video in which he is against lgbtq+, he just thinks trans women shouldn't be allowed to have an advantage in sports competitions that have some MASSIVE stakes, and it shouldn't be taken so far that people identify as teapots(as an example)
@@kyellverdonschot9922Anti Prophet forgets tho that there are a lot of Transwomen who started their transition very early and therefore have a more female body than a male one.
"The more hate speech there is toward a group, the more violence is committed toward that group." Ugh, I wish people could think for themselves well enough that that wasn't true 🙄
Sports should be segregated by skill level. This means everyone has access to sports and no one has to fight for the right to be there, they don't have to fight to take up space. If there's equal opportunities for everyone, not just those in the gender binary, then eventually we could see an abundance of amazing athletes. If it becomes a viable financial option for all genders to become professional athletes, not just men, then I believe we'd see many gender diverse athletes absolutely smashing it! 💪
Sports ARE separated by skill level. I can’t go and join the Olympic skiing team after finishing a bunny slope. Most sports have divisions where they are split between age gender and skill, but girls really can’t compete against boys. I played soccer when I was 13, the place I played at is in butt fuck nowhere Indiana, and they didn’t have enough girls for a whole season so they mixed us in with the boy teams, like 3/9 players were girls. As a girl, we fucking sucked. I broke a bone trying to get past a male defender, he didn’t even flinch. I was skilled, I’d say, but I can’t compete against someone who’s built to be more muscular than me, like unless I dapple in steroids I would be fucked.
I think its kinda funny that one of disco's first argument is that Trans Woman want to win on sports, as if cis woman arent playing to win as well lol. Of course people also play to have fun, but trying to win is a part of most sports.
The disco ball gentleman has made comments in regards to Tate and how he doesn't agree with him. Also, I think he wears a mask because he does not want creepy people on the internet who adamantly disagree with him to invade his private life somehow. Some people just try to separate their "internet life" and "private life". I don't think he is conservative to be honest. I think he is voicing an argument that, quite honestly, might need to be talked about on a broader spectrum. I don't always agree with disco ball guy, but I wouldn't call him some sort of right wing bigot.
with the misgendering, it can sometimes be an 'act of violence' as a lot of trans people commit suicide due to being misgendered. I myself have attempted it cause i keep getting misgendered all the time. using the right pronouns can save a life
i feel like the section regarding misgendering someone and violence... its not just that misgendering people can lead to violence, the person in the original video was saying that misgendering is an act of violence (and ofc disco adds "physical" to violence, which is incorrect). and technically, misgendering someone /is/ an act of violence. it's a microaggression. i'm sorta surprised you didn't talk about that in your response.
Misgendering is an act of violence in the same way something like spitting at or on somebody is. It may not brutally harm them physically, but it is an assault intended to cause distress, and unlike spitting, when done maliciously can do real psychological harm(where spitting is a minor biohazard and might get you wet). Misgendering is violence, albeit not bloody, and i thought we understood this already. Violence doesnt have to scratch or bruise. Edit: think of it like this: you wouldnt tell a trans child that their parent misgendering them wasnt an act of violence, as that is abuse, so why change that energy for adults?
Its abuse to put the idea into that child's head that they were "born into the wrong body". That's abuse. Your entire comment is riddled with contradictions. Misgendering or CORRECTLY gendering someone is not violence. Punching them in the face is. Spitting on someone is closer as you are violating their physical form in a manner. And no "we" don't bow down to your ideology so this idea WILL be pushed back on. Buckle up butter cup.
You should definitely consider doing more videos on this guy debunking his stuff, he is the embodiment of egotistical and lack of critical thinking, and also his name "anti.Prophet" is hilariously ironic, as I think he gets a big ego kick from himself.
i don't think this guy is a hypocrite. i think he literally just says anything he thinks will get him followers. im a trans nonbinary radical socialist millennial. i literally almost followed this guy. he makes a lot of centrist and "logical" arguments for other more innocuous things that i liked. the more shorts i was fed, the more strange and questionable his opinions became. i ended up saying "do not recommend this channel" just in case, and thank you for showing me that it was the best thing i could've done. obviously i wouldn't have started agreeing with him, cuz he's ultimately an idiot, but i don't need the stress of following someone who turns out to hate my lifestyle (and who is an idiot).
I thought he was that one guy on tictok talking about how he was a Christian and saying how hell is scary and he won't stop talking about it.does this guy just talk about stuff on both sides?
As a straight, cis woman I really don't get y ppl give a flying f about gendering? like treat it as a nickname if someone is like "Hey my name is bradly but I would prefer to to called Brad instead". Why do u respect this n not gendering?
You were right. It isn't "violence". Maybe a dick move and bigoted... But not "violence".

😮gbv. 😊

The lack of self-respect combined with forced confidence... and the fact that they're secretly the snowflakes they accuse others of being.
We need more empathy, we shouldn't consider people with different opinions as people who are entirely illogical because it just causes confrontations, just as disrespect does.

even segregating sports based on hormone levels doesn’t work because there are cis women with low E/ high T and cis men with high E/ low T, there’s already been at least one instance that i know of where a cis woman was transvestigated bc her T levels were too high
I don’t know if it went through but it was something I read about new policies on women sports
Dumb AF when you have genetic freaks praised (Bolt and Phelps, for example) but if you are a woman, is magically unfair
Thats usually from steroid abuse.
Even tho I was born "Ms."
I also play a lot of games online, and often pick a male character (plethora of obvious reasons why). I'm fine being called guy terminology by a group, and again, no one seems angry when they find out I'm a girl. They just adjust. Even tho they "knew me as a guy".
It's almost like we do this consideration for people all the time already.
this is an interesting perspective, it's definitely something that I can see gives the same energy

@@ayouberriouch5973often hormone therapy is considered a necessary medical treatment - gender dysphoria is a condition that can be diagnosed by a medical and/or mental health professional. for younger kids, the treatment for that condition is less often hormone therapy, and more often puberty blockers (which are reversible! the whole goal of puberty blockers is to give kids more time to figure out their identity and what they want for themselves before their body starts changing in a way that might make them feel extremely dysphoric - which, again, is a medically diagnosable condition)

She's also by far the most popular and most likely to be seen because she can speak well when on camera, has a clear argument that many people agree with, and was picked up by right-wing publicists and media outlets. There are many women who have been beaten in sports by trans women who likely would speak out if they weren't nearly guaranteed to be mocked and called names like "Riley 5th Place Gaines" was.
oh so there aren’t men that identify as women who play in female sports and absolutely dominate them? that doesn’t happen? really?

No it doesn't make sense because we have different skeletal shape lung capacity metabolism muscle mass proportions..... Even if you take hormones there are some things you can't change ( you can't be whatever you want but sadly that doesn't change who you are)
@@ayouberriouch5973 if it's mtf then the estrogen decrease muscle mass because the only thing really making the extra muscle was the testosterone, so the lack of it would make it decrease.
@@jacquelinewright868 yes it's true but that's doesn't change bone density or lung capacity
@ayouberriouch5973 My guy you're complaining about trans people online most likely everyone beats you in sports with them titties
@@ayouberriouch5973 I'm going to take your word on that because I don't know much on that part of hrt.
While I don't like Disco Head guy and I disagree with most of his takes, the few videos of his I've seen aren't at all as extreme as the Andrew Tate types.
But it's really fucking weird to wanna put down trans people so much that you advocate for people not giving a fuck about each other's experience. That's such a goofy hill to die on.
Yeah he has a couple good takes, few and far between. Better than tate, but still a pretty messed up opinion.
Misgendering someone can be violent, the way a white woman screaming to suggest an innocent black man is threatening her is violent. It can be indirect violence but it has the intention of creating harm. That said, I would never expect people like that to CARE about the harm of misgendering people. I think it shouldn't be illegal any more than screaming, but just because it's legal doesn't mean we can't all see wtf you're doing and be critical of it.
yeah theres plenty of immoral stuff thats not illegal, like cheating on ur spouse. the law shouldnt be used to police all of morality, esp when the justice system is so flawed and often used as a weapon. doesnt mean misgendering isnt shitty, and there are and should be punishments in certain places, such as workplaces, medical centres or schools, where it would fall under anti-discrimination laws
bro thinks he's 2013 kanye with the mask 💀
I saw a few clips from him talking about stuff unrelated to lgbt+ and I honestly thought he made good points, there os one where he says “you can’t shame a woman for profiting from adult content if you are the one creating the demand”. He basically called out men that complains about “women not being modest anymore” yet objectifies every woman he sees. Seeing him talking about trans men and sports like this made me reeeeeeaaaaal confused.
Genuinely think/feel that disco head man is actually chill and if he ever gets correctly in a respectful debate he would be like “ayo… you got a point”
Anyways it is great that you are making this video, unfortunately, regardless the messenger, the message abou trans and gender identity in general can be a bit wrong due to the amount of rage bait and misconceptions of how it works, and the lack of interest to actually searching for the topic and educating ourselves.
honestly man I originally thought the points he made were really good, but as I went on it just turns out he's some dude talking about topics he doesn't fully understand. it's like those kids you hear in class arguing about something using the tactics they see online.
What’s crazy is he’s very critical of Tate. I don’t think having an opinion on trans people in sports really makes him Andrew Tate at all.
There's nothing crazy about that. Intellectually lazy, short-sighted ppl like Ryan just love to put labels on people.
I think it's more the way he presents himself, the way he speaks like his word is godly or something
@@kyellverdonschot9922Anti Prophet forgets tho that there are a lot of Transwomen who started their transition very early and therefore have a more female body than a male one.
“Idgaf about you, your problems blah blah blah” yet he start make videos blasting these people, bro suck at acting don’t care 😭
"The more hate speech there is toward a group, the more violence is committed toward that group." Ugh, I wish people could think for themselves well enough that that wasn't true 🙄
There's no such thing as "hate speech" just speech that YOU hate.
Fun fact: I actually DID wonder what would Andrew Tate look as a disco ball
This man is just like a disco ball. He can't stay in one spot. Alway revolving😞
OOH BURN! 🚒🚒🚒🚒🚒
I myself have attempted it cause i keep getting misgendered all the time. using the right pronouns can save a life
I feel like I need a Ryan Beard to talk me through any argument I ever come across
i feel like the section regarding misgendering someone and violence... its not just that misgendering people can lead to violence, the person in the original video was saying that misgendering is an act of violence (and ofc disco adds "physical" to violence, which is incorrect). and technically, misgendering someone /is/ an act of violence. it's a microaggression. i'm sorta surprised you didn't talk about that in your response.
transphobia is starting to make less and less sense, making me think that its just garbage trolling and rage bait
He looks like that one creepypasta image with the Guy who's entire body is covered with teeth.
There are so many trans men in sports
^ this is a good thing
@@champion4505 thanks for the correction :D I love when people don't leave hate comments, hate comments are the reason social media is annoying.
he got the "What it feels like to chew 5 gums" head🔥!
Edit: think of it like this: you wouldnt tell a trans child that their parent misgendering them wasnt an act of violence, as that is abuse, so why change that energy for adults?
omg exactly. i'm shocked at the lack of people pointing that out
Its abuse to put the idea into that child's head that they were "born into the wrong body". Buckle up butter cup.
its just words😂😂
So if i accidentally misgender someone who I never met before it’s assault?
id say its de humanizing and wrong butr i wouldnt say violence
You should definitely consider doing more videos on this guy debunking his stuff, he is the embodiment of egotistical and lack of critical thinking, and also his name "anti.Prophet" is hilariously ironic, as I think he gets a big ego kick from himself.
@@uraniumeaterr are you 15yo?

i don't think this guy is a hypocrite. i think he literally just says anything he thinks will get him followers. im a trans nonbinary radical socialist millennial. i literally almost followed this guy.
he makes a lot of centrist and "logical" arguments for other more innocuous things that i liked. the more shorts i was fed, the more strange and questionable his opinions became. i ended up saying "do not recommend this channel" just in case, and thank you for showing me that it was the best thing i could've done. obviously i wouldn't have started agreeing with him, cuz he's ultimately an idiot, but i don't need the stress of following someone who turns out to hate my lifestyle (and who is an idiot).

The algorithm forced some of the masked dudes videos on me, slowly but surely i was disagreeing more and more with his takes.
The reason this guy wears a mask is because it makes him anonymous, therefore, no one can personally attack him for being an ass.
Doesn't justify gluing fucking gum to it like an 8 year old. A simple black bar over eyes would suffice, and would look much less stupid
I remember liking(?) this guy's videos. And then I stopped watching him. That's my entire story.
I remember seeing a few of this dude's videos. Not the trans ones. And holy shit he's a weirdo.
I saw him saying facism is based or parts of facism. He just thinks he is edgy and based
that guy is genuine brainrot
yes, facism is made out of facism
As a straight, cis woman I really don't get y ppl give a flying f about gendering? like treat it as a nickname if someone is like "Hey my name is bradly but I would prefer to to called Brad instead". Why do u respect this n not gendering?
chest bit was traumatizing never do that again
The guys name is anti prophet if anyone was wondering. Very pretentious
he thinks hes him lol
Whole point was to not give him any attention, but wow that is comically pretentious
It's weird that those people give emphasize on "not giving a F". We live in a society and society works because we give a F.
