Hi!! Thank you so much for reviewing and breaking down my project. I really enjoyed your feedback. I also agree that the ending could’ve been stronger. Admittedly the ending of Intermission is the only scene I don’t really like, but I had to tell myself to stop messing with it and just get it done. If I could go back and redo the whole thing, I’d change the ending for sure. Otherwise I’m pretty happy with the end product.

There are a few issues continuity-wise, but those can be overlooked:
-Uzi being so durable, if this was a thing, N wouldn't hesitate and protect her when AS took control in episode 7. You'd have to rewrite the fight scenes to fix this.
-V barely remembering anything. She most likely remembers most if not everything that happened, unlike N (which is the source of her trauma and the reason why she behaves the way she does and tries to protect N). This could be excused by saying that she still wanted to keep msot of it a secret, but that would take away form the scene a bit imo.

    • @viciousworm1784

There are a lot of things that don't fit very well with the canon episodes imo:
      - V's out of character moment (In intermission, V just explains everything. It's good development, but not for something between episodes 4 and 5. With how Uzi talks to and about V in episode 5 and 6, it's clear that she doesn't know how V really feels.)
      - The ending (Intermission makes it seem like Uzi hacked into N and V's minds to find the memories, instead of to stop Cyn from resetting them. This doesn't work because Uzi says: "You passed out cause some internal program is trying to delete these memories" in episode 5.)
      - N being quick to shoot Uzi (Based on episode 7, it's clear that he doesn't know that Uzi would be able to survive the shot.)
      - Not fitting in the timeline (Episode 5 starts because the trio watches the Zombie Drones tape. They had the tape at the end of episode 4. Why would they wait multiple days to watch it if they are trying to figure out what's going on? Intermission implies that Uzi has been having nightmares for at least a few days, which is the reason this matters.)
      - Word choices (This is more of a nitpick, but Murder Drones characters don't feel the same without the Liam Vickers style of writing.)
Still very good for a fan project, I just wouldn't consider it canon.

Murder Drones desperately needs some pure character development that is not driven by the plot nor a specific goal.
They used to do that a little bit in episodes 1, 2, and the beginning of episode 5 (before Uzi joined).
Having this interaction between N, Uzi, and V where they are just being themselves makes the audience much more connected to the characters.

MD Intermission is truly a love letter to the series. What I loved most about is is not only kept Uzi, N and V in character, but it actually knew when to be serious with them and when to just have a light hearted moment.
V's rant at the end about nearly her whole life being one dark nightmare was truly a tear jerker to me because that is what I was desperately wanting to see more from her as a character: Someone who's harboring a lot of emotional pain to explain why she acts the way she does.
That and you see deep down V isn't evil. She's just emotionally broken from being turned into a monster for Cyn's/AbsoluteSolver's vile plans that she does all this destruction as a means of numbing her pain.

Thanks for having me on Yag. I had a great time, can’t wait to potentially make more appearances in the future. Here are some other things I have to say about Intermission.
General thoughts: I thought this fan ep was spectacular. I wouldn’t say that it is “exactly” what MurderDrones needed as I think MD needed more than just one more ep. That being said, the amount MD would have benefited with an ep like this cannot be understated. What it did to V, and her relationship with Uzi is crazy. To break it down:
V and Uzi: A big issue with MD as it is now is how V’s hand was dealt. This isn't exclusive to V, as Doll Tessa and J are in that boat too, but V feels extra bad as you can see they were cooking with potential and you could see the vision, but it just wasn't completed and executed right. This ep changes that. The way they handle her in this episode is near perfection. They set the groundwork for V’s sacrifice very well. They do two things.
1, make Uzi and V grow closer. In the actual show it's not really presented well why V suddenly cared enough for Uzi to literally die for her. The whole show she's been actually trying to do the opposite in trying to kill Uzi. Intermission gives us an answer. It presents the idea that V started to see herself in Uzi. V says later that she believes she had no choice but to become a monster, But the act of “becoming” a monster fundamentally means that there must have been a time where you were not one. You cannot become what you already are. So V seeing herself in Uzi, specifically as her past self, means that Uzi is not a monster, well yet at least. And this is when the softer side of her emerges. What this lines up pretty well with the canonical episodes, as in ep 2, V challenges the idea that the workers are innocent, implying that coping mechanism she probably uses when committing this Mass genocide is viewing her Victims as monsters to try and help sell the idea that she's not entirely bad. And in ep 4, we see her call Uzi “Cyn”, showing that as she was about to KILL her, she was viewing Uzi as her greatest enemy. So that's partly why V was even able to consider sacrificing herself. And there's more.
2, V’s Vie w on herself. Back to what I said before, V saying “It scrambles your mind. It'll make you feel crazy. But being crazy is the only way to feel normal, because everyone will see you as crazy no matter what you do”. This very clearly shows that V sees herself as a monster and could be another reason as to why V was okay with sacrificing herself. Self worth Issues. And even tho this character is never brought up in Intermission, V here is paralleling very nicely with J who seems to have no issue with what she is. And this is very sad, as N Is living proof that you can physically be a monster, without turning into one yourself and not being perceived as one. It's sad that she went all in on a philosophy that was proven wrong at the end of the day.
They also handled V in a way that didn't really seem out of character. V is still her usual violent hypocritical self. The reason I say hypocritical is when she said “her” way is the path I need to go down, while ep 4 not only shows that her path is not a successful one, IE almost dying. But straight up causes half the problems with the whole “N will move on very easily once I kill you” thing.
To wrap things up, summarizing what I think about Intermission, is that it finally gave us a good look at V, and sets up her sacrifice. My only complaints with this episode is that I think a way cooler name would be “Flight Risk” and the scene where N and Uzi switch hair. In the pilot, It is shown when N regenerates his head with his hair on it, that it is physically attached to his head. But complaining about this small little continuity error is the definition of splitting hairs.

There are some things you said in this video that I disagree with:
9:28: V actually has a lot of development in the canon episodes, it's just hidden in the background.
V is a broken character, who tries to do anything to protect N, and doesn't want N getting his memories back to keep him happy (it isn't working). When V sees Uzi losing control to the AS/Cyn, she sees her as a threat, which is why she tries to kill her. Once she realizes how close N and Uzi are, she no longer wants to kill Uzi, as she is what is keeping N happy. She tries to hide how she feels, which is why she pulls out a chainsaw on Uzi in episode 5. Uzi just saw V's "weak" side due to the memories, and V doesn't like that.
Everything Intermission shows about V is implied in the main episodes, it's just shown way more clearly. There is one part of Intermission that doesn't fit V's character though, when she just explains everything. It's good development, but not for something between episodes 4 and 5. With how Uzi talks to and about V in episode 5 and 6, it's clear that she doesn't know how V really feels.
V says "Uzi, I trust you" because after seeing how far Uzi goes to try to protect N (she cracks her Visor trying to implode the controls in episode 6, and risks AS nonsense happening), she realizes that Uzi tries just as hard as her to keep him alive and happy, which is what V cares about the most.
I do agree that V should have been way more important in episode 5, but other than that, what we have isn't bad.
11:23: I don't see V or Uzi fighting over N at all, V hasn't ever tried to win over N or anything, and the blush in episode 5 could have easily just been embarrassment from Uzi and N finding out that V used to be with N. All the hostility between them is probably not actually meant, as it is in character for both of them to throw insults without meaning them. V actually seems mostly fine with Uzi and N being together imo (anything that could be pointing the other direction could be explained by V masking her feelings, as I explained earlier).
Also, N's crush on V seemingly died in episode 3, after V chopped off his head for trying to reason with her, possibly even earlier, V did ignore him for years (based on when they must have arrived at Copper-9 for Uzi's mom to die when she was young), and N starts to question things more after meeting Uzi.
11:50: The gap may not be as big as you think: Episode 5 starts because the trio watches the Zombie Drones tape (which you kind of mentioned later in the video). They had the tape at the end of episode 4. Why would they wait multiple days to watch it if they are trying to figure out what's going on? (Intermission implies that Uzi has been having nightmares for at least a few days, which is the reason this matters. Without this detail, it could have taken place in a single day, unless I'm forgetting something.)
Also, Intermission makes it seem like Uzi hacked into N and V's minds to find the memories, instead of to stop Cyn from resetting them. Uzi says: "You passed out cause some internal program is trying to delete these memories", meaning that the ending of Intermission doesn't lead into episode 5 very well.
I do like that you mentioned how Uzi's possession isn't good for episode 6. It's something I had issues with, and I haven't seen anyone else mention it.
I still really like Intermission, It's my favourite fan animation so far. It just doesn't fit the canon very well imo, and seeing everybody say that it should canon is kind of draining me to the point where I almost wish it wasn't made. (I know I shouldn't be taking this so seriously, I just am for some reason.)

    • @tlotro625
      @tlotro625 2 місяці тому +7

Ah, I see you are a fellow text-wall writer as well.
The moment about hacking to try to figure out the memories has stumped me as well. Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking this way.
Also, you have provided an interesting insight for me about why V starts to protect Uzi. Previously, I've put more emphasis on Uzi recovering N's memories about their past and preventing him from dying to the Solver. And I think when Uzi was trying, V wasn't looking. She turns her head when she hears Cyn. But still, I do agree that Uzi luring sentinels to her location and allowing herself to be hurt to protect N did make V respect her more.
Personally, I thought that she wanted N back before the events of the show, but, seeing how he doesn't remember her and she can't seem to do anything about it, decided that, even if he doesn't rember her, keeping him safe and happy, looking after him like he looked after her was enough. Then she coped so hard she pretended to not know him, started avoiding him to not hurt herself and decided that "maybe it's better that he doesn't remember all of this, at least this way he is happy". But even in pilot we can hear it in her voice that when something had happened, she actually got worried.
Besides, at the time of ep6, she was more mad at Tessa? who has put them into this situation.
And I wouldn't say Uzi was trying to implode the control panel, that was Cyn.
Also, do you differentiate between Cyn and Solver?

    • @viciousworm1784
      @viciousworm1784 2 місяці тому +7

@@tlotro625 I meant that Uzi seemed to be trying to implode the controls before Cyn took over (she could have been trying to do something else, I just believe that Uzi was trying to implode the controls, since she intensely stares at something, before AS stuff appears on the controls), Cyn was the one who actually did it.
It's unclear if Cyn or the AS is truly in control, but I believe that the AS is causing Cyn to be more hostile (as it was to Uzi in episode 4), and Cyn is in control of all of her actions (like taking control of Uzi, since she does call N "big brother" while possessing her in episode 7). I also believe that the holo-spooky-snake-crab in episode 2 is an instance of the AS: it calls itself "we", while Cyn uses "I", and is also implied to run from a program (Cyn not allowing it to run when N gets his head blown off in episode 1).
I've seen a lot of people say that the AS is in control, and I haven't found any way to really disprove this yet (the AS is also an AI, and it could have a personality, and most of the people who think this say that Cyn was gone since she let the AS into her). "Tessa" does say: "If Cyn wants these labs, we burn them down" in episode 6, but she also says "It took Cyn as a host" (which could be explained by hosts not needing to be completely under control). The "If Cyn wants these labs" part could be explained by the AS playing dumb, which is why I don't call this 100% proof that Cyn is in control.
I just say the AS/Cyn sometimes to avoid confusion.
I appreciate the comment, I like seeing people's reasoning for things, and I had fun writing this response.

One very overlooked, but very important ability of the Solver is to remotely transfer data between instances of the Solver and initiate contact with other drones (tho, this might be more limiting if the reciever doesn't have the solver and might require external "sensors" to recieve feedback). We see it when:
      1) N re-establishes connection to somewhere after being slap-rebooted by J.
      2) Presumably Cyn activates Uzi's solver remotely in episode 1. By that time she has probsbly figured out the connection between her ex-host Nori and Uzi and might have taken a blind guess at her having a dormant solver. And Cyn is the only one that knows both about Solver and Nori.
      3) Cyn is implied to use the Solver to issue J orders, as their comms are inoperable.
      4) In ep 2 Cyn gave Solver orders not just to repair J, but to hunt down Khan. That's why it asks where he is in the fake investigation scene, tries to go after him, then tries to go after Uzi when the plan fails, as Cyn is adept in psychological warfare and Uzi will make a great lure for Khan.
      5) Doll uses Solver to show V a vision of her killing Doll's parents.
      6) Cyn uses solver to spy on the main team, as she knows where to go to search for the keybug.
      7) When her plan fails, Cyn uses Solver to use Uzi's Solver to try to turn DDs against Uzi and each other. She also psychologically tortures Uzi to make her go temporarily insane. Probably to antagonize her further. Probably to collect the keybug after the fight. Besides, she knows exactly what to do and how to influence, knows to show herself to V, knowing how she would react. Meaning she still spies on them.
      8) Cyn remotely controlls drones and puts V out of commission in ep 5. She also remotely commands Solver to delete N and V's memories.
      9) Cyn uses Uzi's solver to save her cover from sentinels and put pressure on the team in ep6. She also does this only after she takes her time lying to N.
      10) Cyn uses it to possess Uzi in ep7 and Nori in the flashback. Also, terrorizes Doll out of using Solver to fight back.
      11) Cyn uses it to investigate and destroy Cabin fever labs.
      12) Cyn attempts to take over N and shows him visions.
Additionally, I've figured out that, and that's big, Solver isn't the one that's possesses drones. That is possible without the Solver, as in ep2 in the flashback we briefly see Uzi do that to one of her classmates. Cyn is probably only using the Solver's ability to transfer data remotely as a connection. This is reinforced by Cyn herself in ep7, when she says that the patch "cut off her feed", but it doesn't remove the solver, only stops her from possessing patched drones, as we see with Nori.
Besides, there are multiple different hosts, who Solver serves besides side-effects and system vulnerability. It even denies Cyn herself access to N in ep7, as his admin is now Uzi, meaning it doesn't serve Cyn only and completely. It also protects them from directly using itself for directly influencing each other.
Also, the tendency to create flesh and cause psychological torture only shows up when Cyn is in control.
In the end that results in a theory that someone has deliberately infected Cyn, directly or ordering solver to do so, not only granting her solver, but also using said solver to transfer her extensive technical knowledge to create DDs and hack into other drones. This is also reinforced by the fact that there are multiple safety measures that prevent the core from changing, which have to be disabled for the Solver to activate. This reduces the chances of spontaneous manifestation of complex "defects" like the solver to near zero. This is also reinforced by the fact that solver started installing something into Cyn, meaning it has an installation file. Those files are designed to make applications easy to transfer and deploy, adding to the idea that it was deliberate, as a corruption wouldn't have anything to install. Or, it's downoading something _from somewhere,_ which leads to the same results.
Also, when talking to N, Cyn had an agenda of driving them apart, so her words can't be trusted.

Ok one thing I will say, as the number one V fan (this is a fact btw no one can take that away from me 😡) obviously I’ve looked into V a looooot. And I think her development was always there, but unfortunately it was so in the background and easy to miss if youre not insane and researching V for hours. What this episode did was make it so much more clear and actually put a focus on it (crazy I know) which was something I was very grateful for. It also expanded upon the stuff we already had, because most of the stuff was very subtle hints and emotions in episode 6. That is why I loved this episode so much. It feels like it fits into the canon and adds more spotlight onto V which was something I wish we had more of. Very glad this is a thing. Sorry for the long comment I can yap about V for hours :/
Bit of an edit this might seem like I’m trying to put down one or the other but I promise I’m not I love them both so much and everyone did a great job :)

Okay so I am a V fan but I wasn't always she had to win me over but when she did she did I usually don't like psychopathic characters but the way V was done how she wasn't really psycho just acting puts her in a different light because some media has the psycho characters to fixated on being crazy and that's what I don't like but the way V is done I can actually see more of her The scared girl who wants to protect the one she cares about the most who is now finally letting new people in as well and I think this project did that very well

Yeah intermission really gives some actually character development to V. In actual canon the whole “Uzi, I trust you” doesn’t actually come out of nowhere, if you read between the lines you can understand why she trusts Uzi. The issue is that her whole character arc of trusting Uzi is very implicit instead of directly shown. You see V in episode 4 taking the fall for Uzi by saying she ate the classmates because she pitys her. She sees herself in Uzi, and intermission pretty much directly shows that with the scene of Uzi hiding from V in the corner. The whole “V seeing herself in Uzi” arc in canon is a VERY subtle, ive rewatched the series enough times to recognize the arc, but it’s so freaking subtle to an infuriating degree that most people don’t see it.
Also yeah I agree 100% with your take on Uzi’s possession. She should have like accidentally formed her silver claws and accidentally hurt N, which angers V.
Also I liked intermission because Uzi actually feels bad and has trauma from what she did to her classmates in episode 4, cus for some reason she doesn’t feel bad at all in episode 5.
I know this probably won’t ever happen, but it would be insane if somebody like Animate a Thing animated the whole episode.

As someone who's favorite character is V (despite her flaws in the writing) This is what she needed. Something to dive into more of her mindset and to establish a bond with Uzi. This fan episode did wonders to better connect the bond of the main trio of the show. My biggest gripe with V's death (and the reason I think V should come back from the dead) was that it wasn't earned. The moment itself was nice, but when you think about it, it at least is very forced and comes out of nowhere. So with this it makes her sacrifice mean something, and when she called Uzi by her name for once, impactful.
Also this didn't really bother me too much, but a cool idea for the ending was if N, V and Uzi were talking or something, then N and V inexplicably shut off with the solver symbol over their visors as Uzi said the reason she went into N and V's heads was after they shut off due to an inturnal system trying to delete their memmories.

I've recently started watching indie animation shows to see the deal with them, and frankly, I'm enjoying myself so far. Unfortunately, I've noticed that the biggest problem with them, and not only them but with modern media in general, is pacing. Eight-episode mark has been a plague on storytelling its just not enough time to flesh out each character(especially when you have a large cast) let alone if a single episode lasts only for 15-20 minutes. MD is a fun endearing series and I can feel the passion behind it, but it needs more time to truly shine.
I hope it will get a second season to tie up some of those loose ends and give characters some more development. Intermission serves its purpose neatly and gives the series a much-needed breath, funny how one additional episode can improve the overall flow of the series. I have also read Ghoulinfuschia's analysis of Uzi's character and it has been delightful, true dedication and love for the craft. That's it, that's my take, goodnight.

I love the way they did V's character development and how her relationship with Uzi changed a bit. When V saw herself in Uzi, she also remembered how she felt when the absolute solver/Cyn controlled her as a worker drone for the first time 😔. I like how V tried to comfort Uzi during that moment. I think this fan project has satisfied the Murder Drones fans for now until episode 8 comes out. Also I loved hearing your thoughts on Intermission, great video 👍.

  • @antoniocarlosoliveira9146

Honestly, here are the 2 things i would from intermission so it could be perfect:
    1. Instead of cyn taking over uzi , she would just go back into her crazy mode from ep 4 because she overused her solver powers , this is so later , when ep 6 comes , the impact from cyn taking over uzi would be greater on us viewers.
    2. There would be a cliffhanger at the end , where both V and N start malfunctioning and the " error:606 " starts flashing on their faces , where this is happening because the solver wants to delete their memories , this would later explain uzi's lines from ep 5 where she says " you passed out because some internal program is trying to delete these memories " and " stopping you from getting digitally lobotamized ".

I'm gonna be completely honest, as much as I love this show, I'm pretty sure Liam and Glitch kinda Retconned a few things from the pilot like N having a crush on V and V being so disinterested in N she didn't even remember his name(or at least pretended not to because she didn't like him). That kinda sucks, but I also understand why it could have happened(In fact, we actually know it did happen for a few things like how Khan was planned to be the main antagonist originally only to be scraped later for Cyn/Solver). Remember, Murder Drones didn't actually get greenlight to receive a full series until after the first episode did well, and while I'm not sure how much of the overall plot Liam had planned out in advance, I get the distinct feeling he was more focused on selling the show as a concept in the pilot rather than having everything planned out in advance when he wasn't even sure if he'd get to make more than just the pilot. And considering each episode took months to produce and the series as a whole several years, it's likely goals, arcs, and plot points changed over time for various reasons. Making a show like Murder Drones at the quality it did get made at as an Indie project is extremely difficult and takes a long time, and while it turned out very good, it's bound to run into some issues that (most) projects managed by big budget studios wouldn't.

Funny enough, working on this project is what really got me to engage in the fandom in a meaningful capacity. When I was first brought on, my only MD experience at that point was someone I met in VRChat just kinda showing the whole thing to me at like 1am around a year ago, but at least I was somewhat familiar with the source material. As this project went on, I slowly began to refamiliarize myself with it all for the sake of keeping the vibes of my tracks at least a little bit in line with the rest of the music, & it wasn't until after the final upload that I really finally went back & watched through the whole series on my own time with my full attention (with Intermission squeezed in there too of course). Since then, I've definitely grown more of a connection to the source material, especially for the wonderful opportunity its community provided me to not only show of my work to a larger audience, but also gain a new friend along the way & lift up their own artistic passions at the same time alongside a whole team of fellow skilled artists. It's amazing the things the internet can foster ✨✨✨

I just got into MD a few days ago to be honest and was REALLY confused once I started episode 5. After watching all 7 episodes, Intermission came in my feed the next day and honestly- IT MADE SO MUCH SENSE. Like I did not understand how quick that went but I loved every bit of Intermission. ❤

What’s craziest about this episode is that N and Uzi’s VA’s are almost identical to the original VA’s.

I swear I love Intermission SO much. It is a perfect tie between episodes 4 and 5. I love V's Development, The Nuzi vibes lol, And just how it all just was animated and acted out. I laughed, cried, and had my jaw drop multiple times, and I had chills. And the VA's are amazing even though they arent the originals! It is so perfect in my opinion

Honestly, as I kept watching I almost forgot that Intermission was a fan episode, it was that good!! Everyone who worked on it did amazing. Of course it’s not perfect or anything but I really wish we could have gotten something similar in the actual show, it would have been nice.

Literally an entire episode where the characters got some development would've been a major player in dealing with MD's pacing issues, without intermission for something to fill the gaps between V hating Uzi's guts and V suddenly trusting Uzi to explore their memories and then sacrifice herself for her always felt jarring, intermission fills a lot of gaps that I always found weird. If we keep getting fancontent as great at intermission and insecurity I think we'll be eating good even now that the show's ended.

I watched this, then showed it to my friend. We both love it, and while some parts are a bit iffy, I love how V is written.

This reminds me of the kind of animatic Liam Vickers himself used to do. Intermission really is just the Murder Drones episode that never was. It's a perfectly viable episode of the show, flaws and all.

“N likes rocks bye bye” - V 2024 ( also I completely agree with you intermission had what the show lacked and V and all the other characters are so well written I really want it to become cannon )

The only thing that’s off about intermission is the transition. Episode 5 began after the post mortem of watching the zombie drones tape from episode 4. Otherwise? Yeah. It’s solid. It doesn’t contradict much outside of what I mentioned.
