Louie Bellson: THE BIG DRUMSOLO: Here We Go... More Louie Bellson Videos here at DRUMMERWORLD: www.drummerworld.com/drummers... #louiebellson #drumsolo #drummerworld
I personally like Bellson the best out of the big three, the other two being Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa, all three rock though and it's hard to pick favorites when they're improvisation was so different.
Very true. Improvisation is the key word here. This is why you can't really "choose" who is the greatest of the three. Like you, I like Bellson the best. And without Krupa, there would have been no Rich. Krupa was the first to put the drummer "out front" with the rest of the band. Louie Bellson was a incredible drummer and a very nice guy and well respected. Rich, whilst being a great drummer was an arrogant so and so, full of himself. Which is why Bellson and Krupa will always be admired more as people, and in Bellson's case, arguably a better drummer than Rich overall. However, as you say, hard to pick favourites as far as playing goes, but Bellson was simply a decent and humble guy.
As expected and beyond - Does not disappoint and puts some perspective on his all out playing. Is there a way to get a higher bit rate (say 256kbps - wav) file of this recording? I first heard Louie on Pablo's "Basie Jam" 50 years ag0 - incredibly tasteful and exciting on the drum break - what an intelligent and skilled drummer.
yeah, like a lot of these drum solo videos, a lot of these transfers are terrible quality and incomplete, or complete while the high quality ones either don't exist or if they do they're incomplete....
Yep. Just thought the same. Louie can do what Buddy can do, but has a broader palette AND put more thought on the COMPOSITIONAL side of the drum solo. In short, Buddy is wilder, Louie is more refined.
I don't know man...Iove Louie and all but Buddy was EXTREMELY musical and did solos with similar structure as this one. Snare, just the cymbals/hi-hat, flying around the kit....One difference is Buddy only had one bass drum..LOL
Louie was NOT on Buddy's level. This is simply not true. Buddy was more musical, more technical and could come up with incredibly fascinating solos on the spot. But it doesn't take anything away from Louie, who was also a great drumner. One thing is undisputed, though, Louie was, on average, a much nicer person.
What a lot of people do not know or refuse to believe is that Rich was high on something most of the time, which apparently made him "wilder", but not necessarily brilliant. You could almost anticipate what a Rich solo would entail at times, however Louie Bellson was full of surprises and knew how to really mix it up and never boring.
They're all good drummers I'm kind of concerned about this new generation blast beaters double kickers hilarious ruckus maybe it's just a curve influences of Tommy Aldridge days. I love watching Billy Cobham I've been to his clinics
Obviously, you know ZERO about either one. 1st and foremost they are BOTH dead. Go ahead and check out their famous drum battle they had on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson back in '69. Then you will realize how ridiculous you sound saying that. I'll use the famous Rocky III quote from the end of the movie when Rocky and Apollo are by themselves in a gym in a boxing ring. Apollo Creed to Rocky, quote..."You fight great, but I'm a great fighter. Louie played great, but Buddy was a great drummer. ua-cam.com/video/14IqlNe7Cjk/v-deo.htmlsi=aP9wVBcaD7ANDZru
@@abrahamweber3075 I've seen Buddy live and close up many times. I've also seen Louie a number of times live and close up. First, Buddy's buzz rolls were electric, much smoother and more intense then Louie's. What Louie did with 2 bass drums Buddy did with one. As far as being nice, I didn't know either one personally. I heard that Louie was a real gentleman. My opinion, Buddy was in a different league all together.
To me, Bellson was always better than Rich, but the "best" in anything is personal opinion. That said, at least Bellson was not high on dope when he played, unlike Rich.
Bellson, is a monster on those drums!!!
I had the great pleasure of watching this incredible drum machine presenting a drum clinic at the Conway hall in London in the 1960s,
THE GREATEST.... PROUD HE'S ITALIAN.
No matter what, Louie could bring it!!
"LOUIE" ~ was BAD-ASS !!!!! ONE of my all time favorites !!!!!!!!!!
Un jeu d'une très rare finesse. Véritablement le père de Steve Smith
With no questions, one of the best
What a legend !!!
thank you,master Louie
IMO the best among that generation of famous.
Королей не судим...Просто наслаждаемся!
King Louie!
Drummers notice... at 1:20 Louie goes from traditional to match.
He actually uses the butt end of the stick too
As humbling as it is inspiring. Damn I love drumming.
Fantastic!
Exceptional Presentation. Then. Dividing the. Various. Tones. &. Accelerating. Building. To peak.
GO, LOUIE BELLSON, GO ! 😃
Amazing! That’s a old Remo PTS (pre tuned set) great kit that’s no longer in production.
What do you do when the heads need changing?
Drumheads were replaced along with the counter-hoops
@@tonyclements I don’t remember it’s been a long time since I’ve seen one of those kits up close.
Magnifico.😭
That was quite something. Normally, I don’t care much for drum solos, but every now and then, something great is presented.

Louie tearing it up!
He stole my licks!
Excellent content! Winning!

Full version of this seems to be erased from UA-cam

che controllo e suono pazzesco .. 😮
Insane
When Buddy Rich got injured he asked Louie to sub on his tour.
Ya know, Buddy Rich was a MONSTER drummer, but Louie's solos always sounded more MUSICAL to me, AND more creative. Your thoughts??

@@125sloth AND your point? If your trying to discredit what Buddy could do, just stop
Preference is subjective.
This is sinister...
Just as good as Buddy, a lot nicer and way better looking 😂❤

Louie Bellson is much greater than Buddy Rich. I said what I said.
I respectfully disagree and don't think that it's even close.
I agree. Louie was the first to put double bass into action, wrote better songs and had the best buzz rolls. Also was much nicer than Buddy

Not better than . Different that's what it's about.
He’s brilliant, fantastic, one of the all time greatest, but he’s not as good as John Bonham
Louie makes hard things look easy. Bonzo made easy things look hard..
