Neil has a unique world view, and puts a brilliant perspective to things. To hear the music, then to hear him speak, how could anyone not admire the man?

@@MysticRhythmsLive it was so fascinating! I still laugh at the end of the Tom Sawyer bit 😂. Also I loved when every member talked about each other; you can tell the love and respect they all have for each other. And that’s some thing you don’t really see a lot of in bands nowadays....

From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary
Geddy Lee - Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals
Alex Lifeson - Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus Pedals
Neil Peart - Drums kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, tubular bells, crotales, cowbells, plywood, tympani, and Gong!
Alex Lifeson: RUSH guitarist and Guru Extraordinaire! The HEART ❤️ AND SOUL OF RUSH! THE FUNNIEST MAN ON THE PLANET AND GREATEST SPEECH GIVER OF ALL TIME!!! BLAH…BLAH…BLAH! HATS 🎩 OFF TO ALEX LIFESON 😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🎸🎸

I love Neil's take on his playing and knowing how to play his phrases. Since he wrote the lyrics, he was truly in tune with the lyrical phrasing and knew where to put emphasis or when to stay back. Such an amazing percussionist, lyricist, and musician.
RIP Professor...I miss knowing that we aren't able to look forward to your next contributions.
Long live the work of Lerxt, Dirk, and Pratt!

Fantastic to see this. I think most of us recognise that Neil was one of the best drummers of all time and Geddy is up there with the best bass players ever but what this shows is just how important Alex was to the whole project. I always understood his role in keeping the band together emotionally - making them laugh and enjoy each others company - and you could see that in Beyond the Lighted Stage - but what this shows is how Alex had to adapt his playing to recognise the fact that the other two were effectively soloing at the same time. The confidence to hold your own in those circumstances is exceptional. He is a brilliant guitarist and, perhaps, the only guitarist who could have functioned in this band. Without Alex, I don’t think we get Neil and Geddy at the level they reached. Rush was a band of geniuses - all three of them.

Wow had never heard the demo for Tom Sawyer before, it was so fast! Whoever said to slow it down is a genius, the whole swagger and heaviness makes that song what it is. Hearing Alex's multi tracked guitars is pure bliss, the guy is the greatest rock guitarist ever in my humble mind. The best band that ever lived and there will never be another!

It was so interesting to hear how they composed Tom Sawyer. I loved the whole video, but that part was my absolute favorite. It was good to see Terry Brown with them again. I think he was their best producer. I love almost all of their albums (HYF and Presto are my least favorites), but the quality of the sound was not the same after Terry left.

Someone inevitably asks "what's your favorite Rush album" I always find that to be a difficult question. Of course Moving Pictures was the pinnacle of Rush and what an incredibly creative and musical album it was. However, I always revert back to 2112 for its flow and musicality, but then I remember Hemispheres and how incredibly creative and musical that was too. See my problem. Either way 2112 is at the top of the list for me.

I used to carry around a red Trapper Keeper during my intermediate- school days. I cut a slit into its clear cover, and inserted a photo of Neil Peart in action behind his (then) Tama Artstar II kit. Then I wrote under it with a 'Sharpie "NEIL PEART IS GOD."

These gentlemen are from space, free flowing in the cosmic, and the lyrics touches Earth, just to take off on another ride into the unknown.. like free flowing strings intervening one another n then splitting flying around like bees n then coming back together like a flock of ducks to make what we call music, to them it was their perspective of life itself.
