I may not agree with everything Chavez has done but I sure do admire him. Why is it considered wrong to put HIS nation and the interests of His people ahead of US interests?

For those who are not Spanish speakers, I should say that the subtitles are a bit poor. They are not the most horrible ever, but there are some mistakes and several omissions.

@nicklaust1 In one of his last speeches before leaving office, President Bush said, regarding the future of democracy, to trust the people...trust the people to go with freedom and democracy. He wasn't just talking about Americans. Venezuela will take care of Hugo.

@Julio4484 Lets juxtapose this situation with that of the US. There you cant cet tinto a hospital unless your wealthy. The public school system is also failing and slowly being replaced by private for profit schools whose results are no better but cost a lot more. Every economy in the world is suffering with debt from the global meltdown (perpetuated by the US of course). Chavez is trying to build a prosperous society the right way, not by exploiting others, but through sacrifice, and devotion.

But it's not real world money issues, it's capitalistic world money issues. What the f does it matter how much a dollar cost if you're doing business in Bolivars? What is better making $5 an hour and paying $5 for a tomato or making 5000 Bolivars/hr and paying 2500 for a tomato?

Maybe you should focus a bit more on the context in which it was said, instead of taking it literally.

@ishmahin You confuse me when you say "...Chavez is a dictator and a horrible man..."
Are you quoting the US on this...? Or are you serious?
I think you mean "... Since the US does not have control over the country anymore, nor have access to Venezuelan oil, nor have bigCorruptCo's in there sucking the life out of the country, the [United states of America] quotes Chavez as a dictator and a horrible man..."
Is this what you mean? :P I could be wrong, sorry if I am.

@illuserfriendly In the capitalist system, what doesn't work disappears. There are problems worldwide and they need to be solved. Of course the capitalist system has failed in this crisis but it has the power to revert the situation (or at least I hope it has or we are done). In the case of Chavez, I have to tell you that you are completely wrong. With all respect, I have seen what he has done. He doesn't care about the people, he just wants to stay in power as long as he can.

"dirty tricks like ruling by decree and giving extra votes to certain sectors of the country that he knows will support him."
    Sources?
    The economy is declining?
Maybe by capitalistic standards, by socialist standards he declined poverty with 30%, export grew with 15% and he created 1.5million jobs with co-ops. In 2009, during a world wide recession the Venezuelan economy shrank by only 2.9%, same as the US,

Says who? It's only relevant when you do business in US $, if you don't, and they don't, then wtf does it matter?
I live in Canada and the only time I give rat's ass about the exchange rate is when I wanna buy shit from the states, if I don't buy shit in US $ wtf do I care about the exchange rate? Granted, unlike VZ we actually do business with the US so the exchange rate is of some relevance, but that's not the case in VZ.

@pauluminous Oh gee DUH, but of course. How silly of me. So his comments regarding earthquakes, confiscation of privately held property and breast augmentations will make him more credible? This guy is a perfect megalomaniac. His kind take over only because people allow them to. It takes self-determination, work and passion to want and keep freedom...something Chavez hopes Venezuelans won't figure out til it's too late.

@illuserfriendly I´ll give you some examples, so you can have a wider vision of the situation.
First, there is a great problem with Venezuela's industry. Chavez claims that he will "help" the people by taking companies form their owners and giving them to the people. Result: most of the companies taken by the government have broken, leaving people on the street without job and their (companies´s) money has banished.
Is that sacrifice and devotion?, stealing wealth from ALL social classes?
