Good morning, Melissa. A huge thank you to you for taking the time to showcasing Australian purchased yarns. We do not have many Aussie’s doing what are doing. We see on UA-cam many hobbyist using various yarns many of which we cannot access as they are not available here in Australia, and if they are the cost is astronomical.
You are correct, when purchasing yarns online from spotlight or similar Aussie stores we do not always received the full overview of the product. I have noticed when shopping online especially Spotlight, they are not consistent in showcasing the details of the yarn/product. What I like to see is the ball of yarn, a close up of the yarn, the label showing all details of the Yarn, meterage, make up, care instructions, hook/needle size, ply or weight of yarn, and show the end of the ball of yarn especially with cakes. For those who are “house bound” or live remotely/rural Australia, it is not always convenient to “just go to the shop and make a purchase”. We rely on online shopping and not having access to details on the yarns can at times make for disappointing purchases as the colours online and what we receive are way off, this is why it is important for people such as yourself to do “product reviews”. You are making it real, keeping it real-thank you.
I now look forward to seeing what you create from these beautiful balls of yarn.
@@user-zq4ud3ne3m thank you so much 💕
I was just about to make the same comments - you took the words right out of my mouth! I agree with everything you said. 👍
Good to see a yarn Aussie on UA-cam. My favourite online stores are Yarn Store Darling Downs, Roses Knitting Centre Victoria and another Queenslander, Craft Online Kuranda for Lion Brand and Premier. They have some good specials on Saturdays.
@@bettymarshall2702 thanks for the list of stores. I will give them all a look.
Glad to see an Aussie displaying our yarn Im a born and bred Tassie but live around Albury now. Bendigo/Wangaratta woolen mills is another place I like to buy yarn from
All the best
I just purchased from Bendigo Woollen. I'm so excited for it to arrive
Ĝreat to see an Aussie on line, showing there yarn.
@@fayeanderson5893 thank you 💕
Ferris wheel is one of my favourites just beautiful to work with like you I wait for it to come on sale love Lion brand yarn
I love the mandala wool
Loved watching your 50% off yarn haul. I also took advantage of that sale. I bought some cotton & also some latte cakes, which so beautiful & soft. My daughter is knitting a cardigan out of the grey latte cakes.
Hi. I just want to say thank you for showing us the Caron skinny cakes. I live in New Zealand and yes you are so right we can’t see the cakes properly online. Thanks again enjoyed your video. Now going to check the rest of your channel💜
@@Jojoembling Thank you 💕
Wow I’ve just found you. I love Spotlight
Good unbagging! I like them all but I do really like Skinny Cakes. 😊
Love watching other Aussies go through their hauls! I'm always interested to see what brands they buy and what new colours are out there! I just finished a shawl using the Monday Vera Bellbird woolblend in the Fanta mix color. Is a lovely yarn to work with and looks great 😊 thank you for sharing your haul with us! 😊
@@MelsYarniverseThank you 💕
Wish we could post photos on this chat. Would love to see your shawl.
@@luckyplatypus I just posted a short on my channel so you can see how the Fanta Mix works up. The colour changes are just lovely. I just watched your long wrap cardigan tutorial and I cannot wait to make it! Just need Spotlight to have another sale 😂😂 then I can load up on some of that beautiful Evergreen Ferris Wheel yarn 😍😍
@@MelsYarniverse ooo...nice!!!! I'll also check out what you have on your channel. Nice to meet a fellow UA-camr.
@@luckyplatypus You too! And thank you! 🙏😃
Just be aware spotlight doesn’t guarantee your order will be the same batch and lot number for all the ball in one type and colour of yarn ordered on line
@@louisejeffries7155 you are so right!!!
Hello Melissa, I just found your channel and really enjoyed your Spotlight haul. Some beautiful natural colours but sad there was no pink as I am a pink-a-holic. But I get not everyone loves pink as much as me.💗😂 I re-took up crochet just over a year ago after not crocheting since I was a child and have been following some American channels. I am so glad I have now found you as I so wanted to follow a great Aussie channel. I am looking forward to exploring your channel and watching the tutorials. I am living back in NSW again since near the end of 2022 but I lived and worked all around QLD for almost 23yrs and I have been to Cairns plenty of times. I actually lived up on the Atherton Tablelands for 3yrs. Ta heaps for a great video. love and prayers.💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏
Ahhh... thank you 💕
Funny you should say that about pink. I have lots of pink in my stash but as you said, not many people are pink-o-holics.
I no longer live in Qld. Moved to Tasmania nearly a year ago to a run down acreage. I have a UA-cam channel on us fixing it up if you are interested @MJMTas.
Fantastic that you have taken up crocheting again and I hope there is something on my channel that you like and make.
Enjoy and happy crocheting 🧶❤️
@@luckyplatypus Personally there is never enough pink in the world ! I would have almost everything pink if I could.🤣💓 Oh sorry I hadn't figured out that u didn't live in QLD any longer yet but I did wonder y the map of Tassie around the Platypus.🤭 We have both moved to cooler weather, Far Nth QLD can keep their disgusting humidity !
We r also doing up (much slower than I would like) an old farm/property we bought in 2022. I will definitely check out all your stuff u have online ! Ta heaps for replying to me.💗💗💗🙏🙏🙏🧶🧶🧶
I love the colours in the Ferris Wheel from Lion Brand and would love to make myself a crochet sleeveless top for summer and to wear at markets so I can showcase some wearables
I recently made 2 garments with the Carron Skinny cakes (Baked Alaska) and it was so lovely to work with and the colour, Baked Alaska, is a cream and mixture of greys and so flattering. I made a Bed shawl and poncho, both are so soft to wear.
@@lpm67 Brilliant. Wish photos could be attached to these comments. I would love to see them.
Hi, that was good to see so many, most I knew as I live in SA but there were a couple of unfamiliar ones in there as well.
I have recently done the same thing and caved into buying some of the Caron skinny cakes as like you, there were some I've looked at over and over but haven't wanted to pay what they're asking, so got a few of the colour ways to treat myself when they went on a good sale.
You didn't have my favourite one though which is Melon Smoothie, it's stunning! I agree they don't showcase the colours very well on the website but if you do a Google search to get a better idea of what they look like you can see if you like it, I think it's stunning!
I actually was lucky enough to find a bag each of the Tiramisu, Plum Pudding, Melon Smoothie and Baked Alaska in the mill ends at different times so that was extremely lucky! Btw I think maybe the Baked Alaska is named after the dessert by that name, not the place??
I've also recently been getting some of the different colour ways from the Moda Vera Valley yarn, stunning colour changing yarn, some people compare some of these to the Ferris Wheel yarn.
There's actually several colours that aren't shown on the website, why I'm not sure, but they are really stunning and better than what you can get online. Some of my favourites are Megalong which I keep calling Menulog 🤣 Coachella, Palm and Latrobe (2nd and last 4th one not online) Look them up too to get a better idea of the look of them. They're 150g balls and 375m so good value when they're $5 half price!
@@alwayslearning9272 Well that makes sense now, baked Alaska the dessert 🤣😂🤣
I nearly got Melon smoothie but held back as I was spending way too much.
Yes... I found the valley yarn when it was new on the market. Bought every colour and have made many jumpers with it. The jumpers are very popular with the customers. Have you noticed this yarn is very similar to patons sierra yarn?
I also go up one size from recommended size.
Another Aussie to talk to about Craft, I go for sales also, I love Spotlight,, and there is another Craft2U, are you in Country or City, I am in Brisbane, QLD,take care.❤
@@user-xw9mj4rb8r Hello fellow Aussie. I'm in Tasmania (in a small country town). I will check out craft2U. Thank you for letting me know. Happy crafting❤️🧶
I wondered if you knew about Yarn Store Darling Downs? Not far from Brisbane.
@@bettymarshall2702 thanks for that. Didn't know about that either.
Skinny cakes work up beautifully. Im currently makeing a cardigan for my son in that first color - the browns and grey. But Ive put a very thin cashmere in dk grey with it, and its looks stunning. But i am doing color control :)
Also, those 4 seasons, are they a soft yarn?
@@Keturah53 That sounds fantastic. Wish we could put photos up on these comments. I would love to see how the cardigan looks. Yes the 4 seasons are soft. The pure wool ones feel like what pure wool should. The other ones, acrylic, are not a bad acrylic. Not the softest I've bought but not the worst and not bad for the price.
I love the ferris wheel yarn! I made a virus shawl using the evergreen and I'm currently making a blanket with the rice stitch using the morning java.
I've also got 2 other colours of 10 cakes each that are waiting to be pretties 😍
Do you have an actual alpaca yarn you like?
@@Dont_be_a_Silly_Wombat That's brilliant.💕
No, I haven't found an alpaca yarn I like or can afford so I spin my own.☺️
@luckyplatypus oh that's right, think I must've asked you before because I remember the answer lol
Where are you I am in Cannington close to Spotlight.
@@fayeanderson5893 I'm in rural Tasmania and have all my orders delivered. I really like that Spotlight does free delivery (over $120) where as Lincraft does not at all.
when did you buy this yarn? its all beautiful.
@@penelopepitstop999 about the 3rd July
What ply is the feels like alpaca plz
@@CrystalClearskies-cb9ji 8 ply. 😁
