3- At War with Satan
4- Possessed
5- Calm Before the Storm
6- Temples of Ice
7- Hell
8- The Waste Lands
9- Prime Evil
10 -Metal Black
I like the list a lot better. A best-off list without Welcome To Hell? How is that supposed to work?
1. The Waste Lands
2. Temples of Ice
3. Welcome to Hell
4. Black Metal
5. Prime Evil
6. At War With Satan
7. Calm Before the Storm
8. Possessed
I don't care for the rest. You should listen to The Waste Lands again, the best Venom era. My introduction to Venom.
I saw venom inc playing on Alcatrazz festival in Belgium 🇧🇪 past August, they play the whole Black Metal album. It was fucking awesome
Always wanted to dive into this band. Now I have a starting point. Well done gentlemen! Cheers
God,NICE ONE-been waiting eons for this,lads!!!!
Shoutout to Venom inc. Their first record is fucking lethal.
The return of the king. Chris alo ftw.
Love Welcome to Hell & Black Metal 🔥🔥🔥🔥 At War With Satan & Possessed are killer too!!! After that I like some stuff. Once the original 3 split it was the end of an era!!
When Venom met Rush during the early 80's, Cronos said to Geddy "You are my biggest influence, Hemispheres is my favourite album and I learned it note for note." To which Geddy replied, "Cool, I hope I didn't cramp your style." 😂🤣😂
Great show. Yeah, that band scared the crap out of me back in the day. I remember thinking something bad would happen if I played my Combat Black Metal cassette but I did it anyway with one eye open. I always wanted At War with Satan but I could never find it. Thanks for the heads up on that box set. Ordered!
First time I heard Venom was Black Metal, and for me they never topped that album.
The first 4 with Mantas, Abbadon and Cronos are my favorite:
1. Black Metal
2. Welcome to Hell
3. At War With Satan
4. Possessed
Then I got off the Venom train.
I've listened to the stuff from the late 80's, 90's and thereafter and thought it was pretty much crap.
But those first 4 are cornerstones for extreme Metal.
Pete, I would also like to site Hellhammer/Celtic Frost and Bathory also as pioneering the extreme Metal sound in the early 80's alongside Venom.
Fun ranking guys!
Thanks!
That would be the same ranking for me as well.
You got it right.
Great Show, Guys! Thank You!
I never really listened to Venom a lot. That being the case I don't own a lot of their stuff. I knew some Songs from various Samplers. Mainly "Welcome to Hell", "Black Metal", "1000 Days in Sodom", "Countess Bathory" and I think "Angel Dust". That was the late 90s, by the way. From a more current Sampler at the time I've heard "The Evil One". At that time their back catalogue wasn't really available. So "Cast in Stone" was my first Album. A little later the did re-issues of the first four Albums plus "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" (Chris is actually showing these versions). The four Studio Albums came with a lot of Bonus Tracks like Single Versions, Demos and so on. The last one I ever bought was "Metal Black". So I own the first four and three of the ... well, from today's perspective probably the middle era. Well, and "Eine kleine Nachtmusik". I'm not listening to them often. So, it's seven Albums for me to rank:
7. Metal Black: I was kinda looking forward to it. I lked the last two befor this. I loved the Cover. Listened to it a couple of times but nothing stuck. Nothing. I can't name any of the songs from memory. Haven't listened to it since.
6. Possessed: Fine enough. Never listened to it as much as the other ones. Favorite Track is "Satanachrist".
5. At War with Satan: The Title Track is a bit over-ambitious for them. Rest is fine. I like "Rip Ride"and "Genocide" most.
4. Welcome to Hell: Classic. I like it start to finish. Favorite Tracks: "1000 Days in Sodom", "In League with Satan", "Live like an Angel ..." and the Title Track.
3. Black Metal: Basically the same I just like this one a little more. Favorite Tracks: "Countess Bathory", "Teacher's Pet", "Don't Burn the Witch" and the Title Track.
2. Resurrection: Well, I'm bias towards the modern ones I had first. What can I say. I like the better sounding production, I guess. Favorite Tracks: "Leviathan", "Pandemonium", "Black Flame" and "War Against Christ".
1. Cast in Stone: Same as above basically. "The Evil One" is my favorite Song by Venom. Others incluce: "Flight of the Hydra", "All Devil's Eve", "Raised in Hell" ...
Ah, I also have one of the compilations that was released when those re-issues came out. It's "In League with Satan".
I have a friend in high school who was listening to the song “At War with Satan” in his room. The second where it gets quiet and Cronus asks, “Are you damned in Hell?” - his Dad opened the door. In stead of asking what he was going to ask, the Dad got silent, closed the door, and walked away.
Totally gonna revisit these old albums now. The early stuff is beyond classic.
...the first album I bought from them was "Black Metal" when it was "the new album." I bought it for the cover alone...never heard a single note beforehand...what a great purchase!! The record shop was "Roads To Moscow" in Tempe, AZ...the cashier was a "punker," and she gave me "quite the disgusted look" when I brought that one up to the counter....
Wow! What a combo Pardo and Alo rate VENOM!!!! Lay down your soul to the gods rock and rawlllll
Thank you for this pleasant surprise!
Yes! Been waiting on this one a long time.
HUGE Venom Fan!!! Mantas Rules!!! from the first time I heard Die Hard I was hooked! I actually liked Cronos' solo albums more than the last Five Venom records with him fronting.

Mantas is the man.To me this is the real Venom.Cronos' version to me is a tribute band.No Venom without Mantas.and i like D Man too.Excellent bass player and singer
I still remember a friend playing Welcome to Hell when it came out....Blown away! Then when Black Metal came out.....HOLY SHIT! Buried Alive is my fave VENOM song by far to this day. On a side note....AWESOME t-shirt Pete....Saw TRIUMPH 4 times back in the day!
as soon as seen topic I knew Mr alo would be on good shit
I'm 33, and I've only lately been getting into this band. I have their first 4 so far, but often times with bands, I like their classically-hated albums more than I should, so looking forward to the Demolition and reunion albums.
No love for Manitou my favourite track back in the day. Haven't listened to Venom since last century.
Well, I saw Venom in Portugal in August 2015 (Vagos Metal fest). i bought Storm the Gates last year, at a small mountain village Metal fest (North of Portugal, Pindelo dos Milagres), bearing in mind the generally displeased ''expert'' critics and their thumbs down reviews. From what i'd heard here on yt, it sounded in the same vein of records like Cast in Stone, Ressurection or even of Fallen Angels (but not quite like on From the very depths, which was the great album that brought them to these Atlantic Lusitanian shores). And Peter's assertion, about them sounding a bit like CF on here, is quite valid and insightful - it's not as if they're acting like CF, but they seem to have used the same production ideas, resulting in a definitely very hEAvy album. Maybe this was just a gist for a greater thing coming... i like it.
I had the first 4 albums, I got into them around 1993. I was told to check out Rip Ride. My friend saw then in concert with Chromags in 1986
Venom is my favorite band of all time. The 1st 4 and Resurrection are masterpieces. Other great ones are From The Very Depths, Prime Evil and Calm Before The Storm. Easily the worst ones are Hell and Storm The Gates. In Memorium is an excellent collection with the first demo, Calm Before The Storm outtakes which consist of better version of Under the Spell, Nothing Sacred and Dead Love (Love Amongst the Dead, featured on Eine Kleine Nachtmusik with Mantas). Somehow they thought that Gypsy and Muscle were better tracks and didn't include Nothing Sacred and Dead Love on the album. Skeletons In The Closet was a a good source for unreleased material back in '93. Hounds of Hell and especially Sadist (Mistress of the Whip) are brilliant tracks.
1> At War With Satan 2. Calm Before The Storm 3. Black Metal 4. Temples Of Ice 5. Welcome To Hell 6. Cast In Stone 7. Possessed 8. The Wastelands
I really like the new Venom INC
Nice - I was into Venom back in the day. Still have Welcome to Hell and At War With Satan on vinyl
Venom is in my top 5 bands! I fucking love em! Also very refreshing to see someone rank At War With Satan as their favorite. The first three albums are truly some of the best extreme metal out there.
1. Black Metal
2. Welcome to Hell
3. At War With Satan
4. Prime Evil
5. Temples of Ice
6. The Wastelands
7. Cast In Stone
8. Possessed
9. Calm Before the Storm
10. Ave
11. From The Very Depths
12. Hell
13. Resurrection
14. Metal Black
15. Fallen Angels
16. Storm the Gates
Cool ranking video there's not many venom ones about on youtube no arguing with the 1st three albums absolute classics and while their latter day catalogue doesn't have the same strength as motorhead or saxon there's still some good stuff to be found amongst those albums
Temples of Ice is AWESOME!!! And so is Prime Evil!!
Top 5:
1. Black Metal

Skeletons In The Closet is one of the MANY compilation albums from Venom. Yeah, that could be the best of the compliation albums though.
Calm Before the Storm, the K-Tel record.. I used to work at K-tel way back in the day, it was still there...
I actually love that album tho, I call it Venom trying to be Van Halen.
Nice show...Welcome to hell (1981) is my favorite Venom album.
Chris said he had that face like he smelled a bad fart!😂😂😂 I would love to hang out and some beers , watch some movies or listen to some music with this dude. What a hoot!
gotta mention the song senile decay. its not easy to find. it might be my favorite venom song
Great Song!!! All their rare Tracksare great!!!
I've listened to four Venom albums, I liked two and a half of them.
Killer. Been waiting for years.
First time I heard Venom was "At War With Satan " I bought it at a used record store for 2 bucks. They scared me at first but couldn't stop playing it lol. It was cool David Grohl got Cronis to play on the Probot album. Centuries Of Sin
Outstanding guys, always dug this band, but they never came around the states
Unfortunately, no, they don't. An occasional one off show is all we will get from Venom. Venom INC on the other hand, are touring the US in October.
1. Welcome to Hell
2. Black Metal
3. Prime Evil
4. At War With Satan
5. Avé
6. Cast in Stone
7. Resurrection
8. Temples of Ice
9. Possessed
10. Fallen Angels
11. From the Very Depths
12. Hell
13. The Waste Lands
14. Metal Black
15. Calm Before the Storm
16. Storm the Gates
Very accurate. The only real thing I’d change is Calm Before The Storm, it’s too low here in my opinion
I saw Venom Inc open for Danzig a few years back. As far as I'm concerned, they are way better than the current version of Venom and from what I've heard of the new album coming out, it's really good.
We need a Raven ranking also 😀
I agree with you 100 percent, Pete, Countess Bathory was the best Venom song. Black Metal was my favorite Venom album. The first 3 Venom albums were classics!
I own the first two albums but only heard bits and pieces of their other stuff, At War With Satan has some good songs on it too, just haven't heard the whole thing. I'm going to go listen to it now actually. \m/ \m/ Good show guys!
Venom playd at waken metal fest this year the video on You tube
Please tell me master Alo is doing this show.
And Venom had that extra factor, very important in metal... They are scary, Black Metal is an emblematic album in the history of the genre,
Possessed is my favorite recently.
1) Black Metal
2) Welcome to Hell
3) At War with Satan
4) Prime Evil
5) Possessed
6) Venom Inc - Ave
7) Temples of Ice
8) Venom Inc - There’s Only Black
9) Resurrection
10) Cast in Stone
11) The Waste Lands
12) Metal Black
13) Calm Before the Storm
14) From the Very Depths
15) Fallen Angels
16) Hell
17) Storm the Gates
Very Cool ! Thanks guys .., I think Waste lands has a Great Cover by the way !!
CAST IN STONE!!! Resurrection is good, too!
Chris isn’t venom with Kronos making a new album too?
I'm sure Cronos is toiling away on a new album. But next release for him is a Venom CD box set to released on the same day as the new Venom Inc, naturally.
5. Venom Inc. , 4. Cast in Stone , 3. AWWS, 2. Black Metal, 1. Welcome to Fucking Hell lol. Great show guys
I really only know their first six well enough to rank. They're the ones I own. I like some of the recent stuff, but the discs are way too long, in my opinion. My list:
6) Prime Evil
5) Possessed
4) Calm Before The Storm (This was my favorite for many years. It kind of sounds like a Raven album to me.)
3) At War With Satan
2) Welcome To Hell
1) Black Metal
My over-all favorite release by them is the live album "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik". Thanks for the video, guys!
I got a video suggestion: Albums where your favorite song from the band/solo artist is on their worst album and vice versa
Hearing "Black Metal" for the first time in 1982 changed me forever...I had never heard anything like it
i owned a little 2nd hand record store back in tha day. i brought imports in. i got a couple copies of black metal in. i put it on, my store burned down...
I bought their CDs up through Prime Evil. After that I didn’t like any of them enough to procure them.
Yes!!
1. At War With Satan
2. Welcome to Hell
3. Black Metal
Favorite songs ( not in any particular order)
Psytzo
One Thousand Days in Sodom
Seven Gates of Hell
At War With Satan
Leave Me in Hell
Witching Hour
In League With Satan
Manitou
Nightmare
Cry Wolf
In Nomini Satanas
Live Like an Angel Die Like a Devil
Countess Bathory
Acid Queen
Don't Burn the Witch
Woman
Finally…gotta say there singles kick major ass…seven gates ,nightmare, die hard I could go on..this band just loses its luster unless it is the original lineup…i remember me and my buddies cranking warhead in the parking lot before school! Top 4 for me are welcome to hell, black metal,at war,and possesed
Bought Welcome To Hell in 82. It was my first and still my favorite followed by Black Metal and then At War.With Satan. They lost me with Possessed. Need to check out some later releases by them.
As mentioned by another , would love to see a Bathory ranking.
Will you do a tribute to Dave Sherman of Spirit Caravan.❤️😢
At War with Satan, gatefold, is my favourite Venom album
I remember reading that Venom did a tour in the 80's w/Slayer opening. Kerrang seemed to imply that Slayer blew them off the stage everynight - does anyone know if that's true or just some rock critics opinion ? Just curious.
Have a cassette from the days before Slayer released their first album in which they cover Venom ( witching Hour I think ) , which came first the Chicken or the egg you deicide .
Funny watching this and listening to how greatly revered Venom are these days considering the shite written about them early on ( Geoff Barton from Kerrang excluded ) , used to go in the day and watch them practice in an old church hall in Newcastle even before Conrad ( Cronos ) joined and they still had Clive the old singer .One of my mates did the first U.S tour as roadie , I asked him to get me a Metallica shirt as they were support and still have it to this day even if it is a little bit snug . Missed out on some of the later product but love the Venom .inc album , also and this won't go down too well the Mantas solo A.O.R album .
The thing about Venom is some of the best songs they ever wrote like 7 Gates of Hell, Die Hard, War Head, Bloodlust, etc. Never made it on the albums, they were B sides on their singles. Canadian Assault, German Assault, etc. are must haves for classic Venom fans
Love the band Cronos from the early 90s. Thrashtildeth
My rank:
1 Black Metal
2 Welcome to Hell
3 At War with Satan
4 Ave
5 Resurrection
6 From the Very Depths
7 Prime Evil
8 Possessed
9 There's Only Black
10 Cast in Stone
11 Fallen Angels
12 Calm Before the Storm
13 Temples of Ice
14 The Waste Lands
15 Storm the Gates
16 Metal Black
17 Hell
Calm Before The Storm was originally supposed to be called “Deadline”. The Deadline demo was the last thing the original 3 piece recorded. I like it better than Calm.
The Black Metal album is so catchy, you remember everything about it after just the first listen.
When I first heard Ave (Venom Inc.), I was very impressed with Abaddon's drumming. I was like "he can now really play good double bass drums." Then, I learned that Mantas thought his drumming parts were subpar and he eventually used a drum machine...
Mantas told me that himself and that AVE was insanely stressful to make. I told him it paid off...what a killer record that was. Can't wait for the next one.
@@ferox965 I agree. It was a very good album.
I used to think: No Cronos, No Venom. But I changed my mind. It's Mantas that's teh "special ingredient". I have 0 interest in any of those post-Mantas Venom records, but I've got time for Venom Inc. and the Demolition stuff, nowadays especially.
Also, pretty sure Venom hasn't played in Canada at least since the 80s -- I think they were even asked, and Cronos said they weren't interested. They're more into just doing festival gigs now where I guess they know they'll be headliners and get good attention.
Calm before the Storm does deserve to be near the bottom in my opinion. It's a bad album. Venom needed the lineup change.
Underrated album though? Resurrection. That thing is really heavy.
Venom Inc kicks wholesale ass. Caught them three times here in Ottawa, Ontario. They were fucking relentless.
Can’t believe I missed this…. Top three for me is:
3: Welcome to Hell
2. At War With Satan
1. Black Metal
At war with Satan and warhead single yes yes still listen now at 55
The new Venom Inc. album is actually so good I don't understand where it came from. Ave was alright, not mind blowing. There's Only Black on the other hand could be a top 5 record in the Venom discography. Riffs upon riffs and solid songwriting throughout.
I gotta agree with Chris. "Possessed" is really not that great of an album. "Cast In Stone" is awesome though.
Sadly, I've not listened to a whole lot of Venom. I absolutely love Welcome to Hell and Black Metal, but that's all I've heard so far. And I heard Cronos' song "Centuries of Sin" with Dave Grohl's Probot.
Probot is awesome! I wish Dave would do another one of those with some of the newer singers, but do another one with Lee Dorian from Cathedral.
I’m just like Pete I was actually scared when i bought the first Venom record Was raised a southern baptist Need i say more Lol
1 Black Metal, 2 AWWS, 3, Welcome to Hell, 4 Calm before the Storm, 5 Prime Evil.
Calm before the storm is quite good, but i suppose the best 2 are the first 2
Good grief, I had no idea that they still put stuff out.
Black Metal is one of the most important metal albums of all time. Quite shocking when it first came out, being simultaneously the best album I'd ever heard and the worst. Black Metal is the only Venom album that is essential IMO. The title track of At War With Satan is worth hearing as are some tracks on Welcome To Hell. Everything that followed fell far short.
Cast in Stone is my favorite
Something along these lines. They have 4 great albums, the rest is imo passable. Personally I dont even consider those 91/92 albums Venom, but ok.
Welcome to Hell (1981) 10/10
Black Metal (1982) 9,5/10
At War with Satan (1984) 9/10
Resurrection (2000) 8/10
Metal Black (2006) 7/10
Possessed (1985) 7/10
From the Very Depths (2015) 7/10
Storm the Gates (2018) 7/10
Hell (2008) 6,5/10
Fallen Angels (2011) 6,5/10
Prime Evil (1989) 6/10
Cast in Stone (1997) 6/10
Calm Before the Storm (1987) 6/10
Temples of Ice (1991) 5/10
The Waste Lands (1992) 5/10
A band not known for any musical variety, guess that's what we love about Venom we always know what we're getting. Surprised it's an album ranking, all are very similar sounding maybe a Top 10 songs is just too easy here. 😈
Prime Evil is way better than a 6, it’s an 8 easy
Cast in Stone is very good
I think personally Black metal is better than welcome to hell. At war with Satan at 3rd for me ; Possesed 4th ; calm before the storm 5 ; cast in stone 6th for me . the rest are ok Venom fn rules 🤘
I love Venom but that's true the latter albums are very forgettable, although I thought that the 3 last ones were better than Hell & Metal Black (I mean how little inspiration do you need to name an album Metal Black !?!). I even like Calm Before the Storm and the Demolition-era albums. The first four and all the Assault Ep's are awesome. Cheers.
The Waste Lands could've been one of my "albums with just the one great song", if I had remembered about it. For a long time, the track "Black Legions" made me think it was an underrated album but no, it's a really weak one except for that song which for me is one of the best they've done after the classic era.
To me the best Venom's album would have been ''Prime Evil'' if it.... was sung by Cronos!
1. Black Metal
2. Welcome to Hell
3. At War with Satan
The best? BLACK METAL! Second fave would be a newer album Cast In Stone, then Welcome To Hell. don't forget ep's like 7 Gates of Hell. I was not a fan of much else. I'll have to revisit the catalog.
When I first saw Venom in the early eighties the venues were almost empty and they were really funny. They are Geordies, and were taking the piss most of the time. I think you should at least biven a nod to the humour. Even the Seven Dates of Hell gig at Hammersmith was half empty, everyone at the frot to make it look good. My main memory was laughing with a friend.
I vaguely remember them. Did they do a UK tour opening for a major band?
@@63mckenzie in the early years they rarely toured, and as far as I know they never supported anyone, However in 1984 the toured with Metallica with equal billing. When I saw them, i don’t think there was a support band, if there was, I never saw them. I think they had a gimmick, a bit like Manowar at the time of NOT supporting anybody. Cronos was full of creative ideas. Cronos himself designed their logo, and tinkers and changes it constantly, theoretically the logo is a little bit different on every release. He also designed several album covers.
@@philjones45 I saw so many bands in the late 70s and 80s, it's all just a blur!
@@63mckenzie i didn’t see tons, but as a student in London i knew a guy who wrote for the NME so saw quite a few gigs for free. My main memories are from the Marquee in London and Hammersmith Odeon. Motörhead were the loudest, quickly followed by Manowar. Saxon were really tight, and Venom were funny.
@@philjones45 Yes, I sacrificed 80% of my hearing in my left ear to the metal!
Nr. 1: Welcome To Hell. Always.
