  • Unboxing and Set Up of our New Vermihut 5-tray Worm Bin. This is the big dark green worm tower. Once we make the Vermicompost with this vermiculture set up, we will use it in the Vermitek Plastic Garden Bed, which is a hard dark brown 10" deep plastic raised bed. All we need now is red wriggler composting worms! #Vermiculture #VermihutWormBin #VermitekRaisedGardenBed
    HERE THEY ARE IF YOU WANT TO PURCHASE THEM:
    🌱VermiHut 5-Tray Worm Compost Bin, Dark Green with Free Worm-saver Tray :amzn.to/3zYMWjL

    5-Tray VermiHut Plus (The advanced model under the VermiHut™) Worm Compost Bin
    The VermiHut Plus worm compost bin is the advanced model under the VermiHut™. It converts the kitchen food waste from your kitchen into organic fertilizer for your garden. The VermiHut Plus is the next generation of the internationally well-known VermiHut worm bin.
    It’s easy to use! Just fill a working tray with worm bedding, red worms and food scraps. As the worms finish consuming the food scraps, they will migrate upward into the tray above, leaving rich castings behind. In ideal conditions, 2lbs or 1kg worms can consume 1 lb or 0.5 kg of food scraps per day on average. A 5-tray worm bin can house 10 lbs or 5 kgs of worms. Therefore, it can help to reduce 5 lbs or 2.5 kgs food scraps per day. The VermiHut Plus provides the perfect capacity for household food waste management.
    Raised Garden Beds
    Raised garden beds (or commonly known as garden boxes) are great for growing small plots of vegetables and flowers. They keep pathway weeds from your garden soil, prevent soil compaction, provide great drainage and serve as a barrier to pests such as slugs and snails. The sides of the beds keep garden soil from being eroded or washed away during heavy rainfall. Raised garden beds allow gardeners to plant earlier in the season because the soil is warmer and better drained when it is above ground level.
    By raising the plant above soil level, raised garden beds also reduce back strain when bending over to tend to the garden. This is especially helpful to gardeners with back problems. In many cases, if the beds are built well, gardeners can essentially sit at the edge of the bed and weed. Raised garden beds do not have bottoms; they are open to the ground; this offers the benefit of permitting plant roots to go further into the ground for available nutrients.
    Our raised beds are sturdy, provide gardening support and are made from 100% recycled plastic. The flexible nature of the garden beds allow the user to shape the garden beds to their liking.

    I wasn't interested in the 2nd item that you showed, but I was interested in the worm bin tower. You didn't show that you put the coconut mat in the cover like they want you to do. That helps flies not come into the tower. It goes into the cover 1st, and then the white piece goes in to hold it in, with the little tab sticking right into The coconut Mat. When I got my 1st tower, I had an awful time figuring out what to do with that. I read everything I could find on it before I figured it out.. Once I figured it out, of course, it made so much sense! Hindsight is so good! Lol! The reason I watched your video is to see if you put the layers of newspaper Under the bedding in your 1st bin or not. I did, and I'm not sure I'm happy about it....but I'm looking for answers, I guess. I can see some reasons for doing it like they said, and some reasons Why I wish I hadn't done it. What is your opinion on that?

      It’s just the water run off. I make casting tea, which is aerated to grow the good bacteria for a foliar spray.

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  3 роки тому

      You would use it to lay on top if you do not want the worms to escape or travel up to the next level;)

    • @cookie761
      @cookie761 2 роки тому +1

      @@ParagonRidgeRanch I Didn't want my poor worms to end up down in that Leachate, so I took that white cloth and wrapped it around the white lower plastic piece with the holes in it...that lays right on top of the base. I flipped it over and folded it around the White piece and I used the home stapler to staple the folded parts together. So now the "worm saver" is actually a worm saver because the liquid can go down through that cloth but the worms can't. I thought that was a very good use for it, although I didn't know either what it was supposed to be used for. I'm really happy I did it the way I did! It's working very nicely. I don't have even juice that goes down there because I run my bins only medium wet. Nothing gets done that far. I'm having so much fun and I love my worms!

    How bad is the odor while in use? Im looking into something like this to farm worms in my aquarium room for live food. Also, how many red worms would this maintain?

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch

    Sorry but I keep hearing or seeing people say you can put the worms under your kitchen sink or in the wash room ect… but the fact is worms don’t like high vibrations so if you have a dishwasher in the kitchen or washer an dryer in your wash room would make those places a bad spot for your worms unless you don’t mind worms crawling all over your house, that’s one of the reasons worms come out when raining because of the rain hitting the ground and vibrating the ground plus obviously to much water they can’t breathe and if you don’t believe me look up worm grunting and yes I’ve had this happen to me before in my early stages of vermicomposting atm I have my worms outside by my house and is about 5 to 6 feet away from my Ac unit and really havnt had a problem but if thier close to a washer or dryer then expect a worm apocalypse 😂 ty for the video I have same hut btw with uncle Jim’s red wigglers

    the leche is actually liquid gold fertalizer basically. Just a minor correction you want the vermileche You might have to siphon out to get it to being usable for the garden but do not call it waste please for the love of god. Every so thing the worm, the seed the grass, the cow, the chickens, the sheep the goats all have a purpose given by god. People need to Learn to live with the earth not on the earth.
    Consider if you have fertilizer compost piles adding that liquid gold to em.

    • @RnRCustomDesigns
      @RnRCustomDesigns 2 роки тому

      No, it is not the same as worm compost tea. The leachate can be bad for your plants.
      Worm compost tea is made from the finished worm castings.

    • @ParagonRidgeRanch
      @ParagonRidgeRanch  2 роки тому +2

      thank you benjamin. All my research shows its just the extra water that was leached out of the feed. I use the actual worm castings to make a tea. I place it in a sack, put in in a large barrel , add molasses and run an aerator a few days to make it grow more microbial. I then take this tea and use it as a foliar spray on my vegetables. AMAZING results!!
