I've not been to the official event out there yet, but I think I like the idea of going this year more than ever. The more I've seen and experienced of the burner community, the more I've come to see it as an idea and less as an event. The giant installations, the vast infrastructure, the organization, all that is necessary baggage to build and sustain a city of 80,000, but it's not what Burning Man was supposed to be about. To me at least, Burning Man is really about intentional community and expressed most fully at events where people can, at least temporarily, step out of a transactional existence into a space where they can experience life as art and a creative force. Much of what has evolved with the "success" of the event has not helped facilitate that experience and in some ways actively obstructs it - the celebrities and social media "influencers" who swoop in by helicopter and use the event primarily to build a brand. The billionaire maharajas who stake out gated communities and have their every whim attended to by servants. This year will be much less of them and much more of the spontaneity, radical inclusion and the kind of life-altering moments which tend to happen much more frequently in the setting of uncurated and organic experiences. The relative lack of large organized camps will probably encourage people to mix a bit more outside of their usual tribes and comfort zones. There is an unfortunate tendency to view renegade events like last year and this year's as "better than nothing." I hope people will instead see it as an opportunity for one of the best burns ever and not a consolation prize of sorts. As to themes, there are a lot of directions to go potentially. In many mythologies, in the historical system of alchemy and in nature, fire is a destructive force but also a purifying one and one which clears the way for renewal. There are trees and other plant species which thrive in environments of periodic fires or even require it to propagate. I think of emergence, a new world born from ashes and a return to origins.
Thanks for putting this together! Some thoughts on themes: DIY BURN. It's kinda silly, but we've gotten so far from what made the burn cool for me to where we're at a place where outsourcing is essential for many folks to have the same experience... So... DIY. Maybe it's more than that. Maybe Burning Man isn't about the BMORG. It's not about the organization that tells us what we can and can't do, who is the great provider of Porto's and placer of precious real estate. What if BM was always about the people? What if it's the artists that create epic sculptures, or the fundraising teams who come up with ways to buy all the materials- the people who scheme and dream and coordinate, building massive spreadsheets. What if that was the heart of Burning Man, and the organization that will sue us if we misuse the logo (which represents our home) has lost that reality. So, this is the time when the lesson is learned. Burning man is about the people. So... When the BMORG turns it off, we DIY the whole event. Renegade burn sounds like we're breaking the rules. This is Burning Man, done right.
Rogue Man has a nice defiant tone. It would be nice to see a reset of sorts. Get back the heart of it all. I realize there needs to be a balance among taking care of the area, following laws, making sure people are safe, and having fun. At the same time people who choose and are willing to take the risk upon themselves should be left alone. I do agree there needs to be an emphasis on self reliability. Make sure everyone has an idea of what they need and has what they need before they show up. That way there is less strain on those who bring more to share and help out. Plus no one wants another Fyre Festival type of situation.
Wow, it's disgusting to see Marion go on about the new world order shots. Sick. The org is OVER as far as I am concerned. Sad. It's time to walk away from those fools sadly. I loved 11 years and volunteered with the BORG for 5 of those but no more. Excited to go to Renegade Man! Sad to not have the art which is what I loved most in the past. Seems folks have lost their minds the past year through all the brainwashing. Those of us who are committing to living, personal choice and freedom need to come together to support each other.
Ya the ORG has lost it. I think this year will be one of the last REAL burns . The future they will be either done with it black rock desert or they will be too scared of “variants” OR they will make it vaccine mandated.. talk about inclusive!
I've been a fire performer for years. All my friends have always tried to get me to go for so long. Had tickets purchased for 2020 and was invited by a good friend to join the camp Lumi Dance. If course we did not go. I will be attending in a couple days and would like to find Lumi Dance. It will be my Virgin burn mission. Bringing the arsenal of fire props and an Aerial rig as we build custom free standing aerial structures. So excited to see you all there and meet some new beautiful light beings!
Last year they encouraged people who bought tickets to regionals and the burn to make their ticket purchases “donations” to the org instead of taking refunds
driving the truck house down from alaska! Going to Descend on Bend labor day weekend, but hoping to hit up the not burn... wondering about when folks are planning starting to camp out there?
I will be there around August September 1st probably til Labor Day. On a regular year the man would burn and climax the event Saturday before Labor Day
I’ll be there with art!!! Look for a burning heart!!! That’s the marker for my camp, also next week update on bm is going down . August will be burning man video month!
They can’t require anything because all we’re doing is camping. The big event wanted vaccines but they canceled that event. Did you know the vaccine death count as of this morning is over 10,900?
Nothing wrong with requiring vaccines for a major event such as burning man. It's for safety. Vaccines reduce infection rates by a significant percentage
LEGALLY: Nobody can require an experimental medical treatment that is not approved by FDA. clinical trials are still on going. In America we have the right to medical privacy and bodily autonomy. Under the supreme law of the land AKA The U.S. Constitution. The 5th and 14th amendment protect your right to medical privacy. in Roe v wade, 410 U.S. 113 (1973) the Supreme Court determined a “fundamental right of privacy exists as to medical information about a person. Private causes of action also exist for alleged violations of privacy (E.G. invasion of privacy) this would extend to the privacy of any medical information contained.” MORALLY: Our body is our choice . If you try to “require” an experimental medical treatment you are taking away that choice. God bless America, the Constitution, our freedoms and those who fought to preserve them 💪🏻😉👍🏻
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Yes you do have the right but then you also have the responsibility to not be participating in mass gatherings where you know SOPs will be very difficult to follow UNTIL said vaccine becomes approved by whatever authority you trust. Burning man is cancelled .. all Americans have the constitutional right to assemble peacefully. We do not have the “responsibility to not participate in large gatherings.” People have had massive protests all year. I have been performing at big events all year. Burning man is cancelled and if you want to stay home all year triple masked that is fine, your CHOICE. Those who choose to venture out to camp at black rock desert DONT need to be vaccinated. Take some time to learn about your rights . People may try to take them from you some day.
4000 (recorded) deaths so far. More vaccine deaths in 5 months than recorded in the last 15 years. including a 15 year old boy recently. My friend a 39 year old mother died from cardiac arrest 2 days after her 2nd dose...her 4 year old daughter is now without a mom.
@@IamPowerSurgeOfficial Sorry about your friend that is genuinely horrible. Protests for human lives are infinitely more important than a bunch of people reminiscing a cancelled festival. my original comment was on burning man rightfully requiring anything they want for their own festival.
