The best it can do is omit the child to doing the things they wanted to do anyway, cause resent towards the parent cuz the child don't understand the meaning of parental discipline and only see it as a form a harmful punishment or worse, have a child that ignores the discipline it received overall and still do the devious activities to spite the parent. Other results can be that the child had fear of the parent and only move in the right because of that fear but that will result in a grown up being fearful for the rest of their lives.

There is definitely a time and place to beat a kid. Like when grand dad gave that mom his belt because her kid was making a scene. Kids like that deserve a beating to straighten them out. It's not like they need to be beaten every day, just one time and they will remember not to act up
