Just watched this video to do the alternator replacement on a 2006 Ford focus. Instead of doing the motor mount, we removed the exhaust manifold cover, 4 8mm bolts, and loosened the lines above it and it slid right out. Thx for the video. Helped out a lot.
Mine went fairly well using your method, one thing to note: on my Focus 05, the alternator had a plastic chute for air flow. It didn’t really stop me, it’s two pieces and fairly easy to remove.
I have watched several vids and also was able to watch my mechanic do this in 2017 replacement on my 2006 Focus. I let him because I didn't know how then. He only charged me 100.00 dollars and it literally took him 40 mins which was well worth it IMO. Of course he had a commercial garage lift which makes things easier as well for this job. He was trying to show me the motor mount tip but it wasn't registering then. After watching your video it does now. This is my 3 alternator in 12 years so I need to learn how to do this repair. I will mirror some of the other comments and say your video is straight forward, I like the sequence you did the job in and thanks for not bogging down the audio with some cheezy background music. I am going to use ramps instead of jack stands for a little more height and clearance under the front end so I will return when I am finished and give you an overall curse word count because I think I am going to use a bad word or two under my breath. LOL Thanks for sharing you knowledge.
MAN, You were a game changer for me today, I have been fighting this Alternator vfor 3 weeks and one faulty part, so i changed this thing out twice. After all the videos i watched, you were the only one I saw who mentioned taking the Motor Mount apart to get the part in place. Saw that today and then it only took 2 hours tlo finish. YOU ARE A ROCKSTAR SUPERHERO! THANK YOU! DON GOTWALD.
I watched three other videos and none of them showed the motor mount bolt removal, thank you for including this little tidbit in your video, or I'd still be out there fighting that bastard!
Only got 170,000 miles on my 2005 Ford focus and looks Iike my alternator might be needing a change out. Bought this car new when my boy was a baby and now he's 19 and in college. Couldn't have ask for a better sedan the Focus has been good to us.
We would still be driving it but unfortunately, it was involved in an accident. It did hit 305,000 miles though! The wife had bought that car new as well.
Aftermarket alternators can't handle the heat like OEM because they are mounted so close to the exhaust (found on a Focus owners thread). I replaced ours a year ago aftermarket and now I'm changing it again. I spent the extra $$ and bought a reman alternator from Ford. Changing it out today and crossing my fingers it lasts more than a year.
The problem is that Remans are junk, especially the ones for the Fords. The Alternator Jobs on the Focus's are a PITA. I have an 03 and replaced my alternator only once. I put a brand new unit on it and it's been perfectly fine. My Friend had an 05 Focus kinda similar to mine. And he put 3 Alternators on it. The last one he installed was brand new and it's been good ever since.
@@justanothertuner4135 No really most guys just don't put it back on.. And really not sure if it does mean any difference..it's a shit car..engineered by a shit company
Man some ppl make it sound so bad or hard to remove ONE motor mount bolt and move the engine just a bit forward.. its not even that hard. Not you though. easy peasie lemon squeezie.
The original Ford alternators last 150K-200K miles. Then because it is an older car at that point the owners are very cheap and buy junk aftermarket reman alternators that last only 15-25K miles.
This era of automobiles , late 90's was the end of Ford, this is when they went global and also wanted to get " diversity" in their design and engineering personal , anyway , when you get the alternator changed , get rid of the car as soon as you can , I hope the people who designed this mess lived horrible , troubled lives , me personally , I would have love to have seen them accidentally fall into a wood chipper , Ford , you suck .
Thanks for the reply! The engine is alright but the problem we had with our was the transmission and the alternator. I am a Honda guy myself which is what we have now. Wrecked the focus...
"this car goes through alternators" *facepalm*. If the car is damaging alternators. You don't have an actual alternator problem You have other electrical issues. Could be one of many things. Most likely a combination of fuses, relays, bad battery, bad connection
So, good points here. I recently found out that you have to reset the ecu when changing alternators by touching positive and negative terminals together. We shall see if that fixes it.
@@justanothertuner4135 I'm doing the alternator on my car like yours today. What do you touch the neg with the POS for with ? A cable? A wrench? How long do you touch em together flr
@@justanothertuner4135 I changed the alternator but man that little thing black line that mostly blocks the alternator from coming out got disconnected. That little tiny tube like thing. I don't even know what it is. I cut the zip tie to that black tube so I could move the alternator out and it worked but it got disconnected. I put it back in place with another zip tie but I feel like it's lose now. What should I do about that. Also the front left control arm the rubber is done for. Dang it
I told my mechanic how you did it and he did the job in about a half hour right in front of my eyes ! Great video ! Thanks for posting !
@Twisted426 man that's great that this helped you. That's why I make these videos!

I'm glad this helped you all out!
Cleanest installation video I've watched!
Great video. Thanks for taking the time to show us all. Thank you again!
Ay thanks for the video. Got it changed in a couple hours.
That's great! Glad it helped you. And the best part.. saving you money!
Aside from everything else. Great video. Thanks man. Shops want $600 for this. Literally to do three screws and two plugs what a joke.
King of kings this man
Make me blush! Thank you!
Thanks,it was very helpful
Changing my brothers out tomorrow morning following this video, thank you! I'll let you know how it goes 🤙🏽
awesome man! Yes, please let me know! It's not too bad. Just a little tedious.
This video was the cleanest so far only 1 ive seen so take it out threw the bottom thanks made the job fairly easy 💯💯💯
Well done sir, this helped a lot
Thank you for this video very helpful
Thank you so much for an excellent video. Going to save me some guess work when I get into this. Much appreciated! :)
Great video on the alternator replacement. Yeah pretty sure there is supposed to be a cover over the lower section to stop road splash.
Can th his be done on Ramps or will the weight on the front wheels stop the engine from moving freely once free from the mounts?

Never thought about that. Let me know how that works out for you
Did it work out better?
So far no issues

this also work for the 2006 Focus ?
Fyi...use a ratchet strap on the 15 mm wrench when your pulling the tension back to remove the belt..makes it super easy

what air filter is that? Is it after market?
Thanks
Did you have to remove the passenger front tire?
It makes it a lot easier if you do remove it. Mainly to get that plastic shroud out of the way
@@justanothertuner4135 Thank you and great video!!!
Is this a manual or automatic?
It is an automatic.
Do you use Motorcraft?
Notice that it's rare for guys to put back on that plastic vent on the alternator
You know, Good point. Mine didn't go back on because it didn't have it. Good catch!
