    Loving the optical illusion on the rear block shots! Looks like all the sprockets aren't connected to each other! The wonders of camera frames per second!

    I admire your make do and mend attitude. You show what can be done with old components and the results you get are excellent. Too many people these days treat serviceable items as throwaway trash, and waste thousands of pounds when with a bit of time and patience they could upcycle (forgive the pun) old components. Keep up the good work.

    Loving your 90's builds. I recently built my bro a Kona. More 00's really but loved doing it. Wanna get more into doing 90's stuff as that was my biking youth.

    Nice vid, dude. As bike mechanic myself, i really love these kinds of videos, you should have showed everything, including the chain splitting and freewheel removal process, could be usefull for people who don't know that yet and want to learn DIY. IF a chain is that worn, a cassette or freewheel should be replaced too, or you have to ride your bike very carefully without much troque untill the chain wear unto the worn cogs in the back. Did it myself in the past, when I was too cheap or lazy to replace the cogs in the back. What a beautifull bike, could used some replacement pads for the tt pad houder rests. Never turn this beauty into a single speed, mate.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  4 роки тому +1

      Ooft. Videos would be very long if I showed every little detail but I'll bear that in mind!
      RE chain wear, if caught at the 0.75 wear the cassette or freewheel should be fine. That appears to be the general agreement and what it says from Park. Anything more and it could be damaging the teeth and yeh, a new chain may not mesh right.

    Given what you discovered with the undersized seat post, I think it's easier to assume those welds are indeed cracked. Although having said that, the welds are much stronger than the HAZ. Doesn't look like there was impact. Considering steel is fairly pliable maybe it did only crack the paint from load/flex. Either way I'd personally want to inspect things properly to ensure the bike was safe. Just my 2 cents.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  4 роки тому +1

      I think those 2 cents are spot on tbh. I've written in the description of the advert it should be investigated and if it sells, I'll make sure to reitterate to the buyer to check.

  • @gaddmeister
    @gaddmeister 4 роки тому +4

    If its a crack you will be able to put in some kind of pry bar between the stays and see if th crack widens, if it doesn't then its just paint.

    I'm guessing the 105 brakes were put on instead of the matching 600 brakes because the 105s were dual-pivot, as opposed to the single pivot 600s, so they were more powerful.

    • @MonkeyShred
      @MonkeyShred  4 роки тому +1

      Mmm. See the 600 group is higher up in the heiracy and the 6400 group had dual pivot too... after starting with single pivot. The 6403 dual pivot came in in 1991 but looking at it 105 had dual pivot in 1990. Interesting!

    Hmmm I guess that the front derailleur was replaced at one point because this is the type with the cage for smaller chainrings, that's why it doesn't fit properly . I always used a spacer who were made for brakes (
    I just modified it a little with the file) to get it a bit more back and down so it works better ! Awesome job for sure but those cracks realy worrie me , you should examine this because if the frame would break the injuries to the legs could be realy terrible !

    Hope you sell it fella, for yours and Torvis future gaff, but it would make a great singlespeed. cinelli or nitto drops,in line levers and some leather bar tape., with that slopping top tube you'd be "the kiddie". Might even be easier to sell. Just sayin..bon continu

    No disrespect at all but I would absolutely not be selling this bike if there was a chance of a structural crack. You might get someone who knows what they're doing and be ok with checking it out, but equally someone else might hop on and ride and end up hurt. Obviously the info is all there in the listing so you're not technically responsible for whatever happens, but personally I would feel a bit ethically dubious. Parting out is a PITA but probably more money!
    Love the videos, not casting doubt on your moral scruples or anything like that - just my personal take were I in this situation.

    • @kwakkers68
      @kwakkers68 4 роки тому +1

      To get the weld smoothed out, I think you'd have to disassemble the rear triangle - very 'do able' I would think. Cost money, but for an interesting bike like this, personally, I'd spend the money. Pity it's not on 700c

    Definitely not a good sign to see crack around the seat post and stays from the wrong size seat post. Will fall apart. Shouldn't cost much to get it re weld to be on the safe side. Nice bike.
