Hey nice video but my question from a pipe welder running 6010 root to 7018 hot & cover how does that machine run without switching every time you go from 6010 to 7018
Im impressed with how its a complete package multiprocess welder for the price. The only thing i dont like is the presets. Miller has these I hate them. I turn em off. But it looks like with this you have no choice. The last time i ever dabbled with hot start and arc force was testing in school. After that never used em again.
I'm a Boilermaker. We do a lot of scratch start Tig welding, so we don't have any pedal. In fact, I've never used a peddle, so it always sort of perplexes me why people use them so frequently. I understand it's to control your heat, but you always have the option of moving faster, or adding more metal, or weaving, or simply stopping and waiting, without a pedal, so why are they so popular?
A pedal is good for welding thinner materials. Better control for starts and tapering down stops, crater filling, etc. It would be hard to weld razor blades together or aluminum cans without a pedal. Likewise and more on the practical side, guys doing a lot of custom detail work with an aim for spectacular cosmetic appeal, e.g., some of this custom aluminum intake manifold work available. You can do a lot with only scratch start, like what you do and what is done a lot in the field, but a pedal does have certain advantages in the shop. I've used both methods. Today I wouldn't buy a tig machine sans pedal.
For stock mode can you when jumping from 6010 to 7018 can you just crank amps up and down instead of navigation menus and rod time selection. Basically in the field for pipe welding you want a simple adjustment. For example telling an apprentice to turn up the welder is fairly simple but having them navigate menus well they could asily mess it up or "need help" which would be annoying. Thanks
How do you think this machine compares to a multimatic 220? I'm just curious as to your opinion. If you had to choose between the two, which one would you pick?
Would you recommend the mts 225 or 275? What's the main advantages or disadvantages of the two? There is $500CAD difference between the two... Is it worth upgrading to the 275? Id be using it for starting a side hussle welding and fabricating, when Im not at my 9-5 building custom Aluminium boats.
My Everlast mig welder has given me a lot of problems. Luckily it was under warranty. Had to ship it back because they only have 2 service centers in the country. Stick with Miller Lincoln or Hobart.
Mark Lugo page Power i-MIG 200E. The main problem was the gas solenoid would stick and I would lose a whole tank of shielding gas. There was something else too but I can’t remember. It was about a year ago. The E on the end of the model number stands for economy.
@@chucksgarage7165 Yes, it is an entry level. But I've had new other brands solenoids stick, usually from debris getting into the solenoid from rust in the tank or moisture in the Argon mix. The good news is that they are completely serviceable and the 200E can usually be customer fixed rather than sending it in. The solenoids can be cleaned out and even "renewed" with little effort. A single board design makes repair quick and easy. Sounds like it just needs a good cleaning out. You can also install a dryer inline. Jody form Welding tips and tricks showed people how to build one a few years back because it is a real problem in certain areas of the country.
@@chucksgarage7165 If the units did not hold up, there's no way Everlast could offer a 5 year warranty for the past 12 years. And if we didn't stand behind our warranty terms, Everlast would have a lot more complaints. BTW, all companies have complaints and problems if you look for them, similar complaints, and similar issues. A lot of warranty problems stem from customers failing to read the terms of the warranty and expect Everlast to deliver something outside of the stated warranty. Everlast's terms and warranty are easily found on the website, and stated very plainly. If they do not want to follow the warranty terms, or the process of contacting customer support before sending it is on them. Just follow the directions, and the warranty goes pretty smoothly. When appropriate, Everlast even can ship a replacement part out rather than ship it in on many models that have gone digital or gone to a single board design and can save downtime. But again, just following the directions and terms outlined in the warranty goes a long way. Most complaints are by people who don't follow the basic process and want to jump ahead without going through basic diagnosis over the phone, or warranty repair process.
I'm guessing you liked the machine but/because(😳) you didn't make any comments about it at the end of your demo. I do like the dual gas setup, going to have to make a few setups for my 210EXT and 253DPI! 😎👍
You showed this 225 machine welding with 6010 Stick. The EL site where the 225 and 275 specs are compared to the Miller 220 and ESAB 205, does NOT show the 225 as 6010 capable, only the 275. Granted EL is no standout for accuracy/grammar/completeness with regard to their site and its documentation, but that would be a big miss. Comment?
Have you ever tried anything from Harbor Freight (Chicago Electric, Vulcan, etc)? I stay close and want to buy my own starter machine to get more practice since summer school is cancelled. I want to try to get a MIG since flux takes 120v. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! *Great review, by the way!*
Yes She: warranty is only 90 days on HF machines, 20% restocking if you return, expensive add on warranty cost (a guide to what they think of reliability, maybe?). Northern Tool has some good deals, their brands and others. Looking hard at Everlast, for sure. But there are many many cheap welders on Amazon, some might say a jungle. Mind your bucks and study hard.
Also, do your comparison shopping. Some things at HF are deals--for example I just bought 2 ground clamps at HF (to use on my battery charger--much better than the typical sissy OEM clamps) for HALF the cost of the same ones at NTool. Shop, learn and save.
@@Factory400 Even when assembled in USA, many parts and boards come from good ole Cathay. I am new to welding (searching for the right machine for my restaurant, farm and other low grade repair, etc, needs) but I have observed things in this profession on line and in conversation with experienced welders, for a long time, and it seems to me that tech upgrades are often more frequent and cutting edge in the direct from China machines. Reliability does seem to be a big concern. I am looking hard at how companies handle customer service when things DO (and they will) go wrong. What are their return policies, cost of consumables, etc, etc? Learning all the time, and I appreciate forums like this one, a lot!
@@replyhere590 My point is made. The consumers demanding "cheaper!" for decades..... now even USA manufactures are no longer USA manufactures. They can't even if they wanted to because most of their vendors have moved to China
So, the shot of the 7018 chipping slag is not the same bead as the cleaned up shot, look at the end of the weld, it's about 1/2" from the end of the joint with slag, then cleaned up it's to the very end of the joint. Might want to double check your edits.
dREaDneckFab: Also, the initial comments by the channel (click on "...more" on the left side) refer to the machine being reviewed as the model 275 instead of the actual 225 reviewed here, apparently recycled a bit too fast from that review 😮.
Joe Shmoe Its actually just protecting the molten metal from Atmosphere not specifically Oxygen. Different gases have different effects on different metal
Joe Shmoe is to run a hotter puddle oxygen allows better penetration into the weld joint. Most industrial parts are built with spray arc mig now it’s fast and efficient.
I may be wrong, but I'm under the impression that's pretty much the go-to gas mix for spray transfer. (At least to start. Depending on machine, alloys being welded, size of parts, and operator preference there is some room for tweaking your mix for optimal results. But for run-of-the-mill or if you haven't done enough to build a personal preference yet, if you want to try spray transfer and have a machine that's capable - that's a good gas to try with. Standard c25 is supposedly no good, need at least 90% argon? Someone more knowledgeable can correct me if I'm wrong...)
Oxygen is also used in the steel manufacturing process while it is molten. In welding it is absorbed by the molten puddle and if I remember correctly it binds with contaminates and ends up bubbling out with the contaminants attached so it cleans essentially. Same with CO2.
Just read the owners manual for this unit. Input: 120V - 42.8 Amps Max - 1eff 34 Amps 240V- 44.9 Amps Max - 1eff 35 Amps So if the branch circuit is only going to be used for this welder you can use a 40 amp breaker 8 gauge wire but I would go with 50 Amp and 6 gauge .
@@TheNYgolfer I have read a lot of recent commentary on YT videos asserting that machine life on these now really common multi-voltage units (including plasma cutters) is shorter and even much more inclined toward catastrophic failure, etc, when using 120. It seems they feel folks are trying to do too much at with 120 that should only be done with 208 or 240. I'm an observer and listener not an expert.

@@PacificArcTigWelding Yes, that's right, one of my favorites
Great job! I do miss Bob’
Us too! But he'll be back!!
Love my MTS221Sti that I bought last May. BUT. Should have waited a year for the 225 Lightning. Oh, well!😎
Awesome, I just picked up the everlast powerpro256 si multi process machine. I burnt a few sticks, I have alot to learn. It has arcforce, I don't know what that is.
I had 3/32 6011 & 6013 & ran it at 130 amps on 1/2 inch. Funny watch a long rod disappear in 7 seconds
We’re you using c25 for spray arc? If so I’m surprised since usually you still get some short circuits with that gas and I didn’t hear any. Impressive!
nope, he was using 95/5
can this do 6010 open root?
You know, I was worried that I would stop watching Weld.com once Bob ceased to be a part of the channel. I find myself really enjoying the content with the Man Cub. Keep it up man this channel is still going strong!
That spray arc shot was basically weld porn
Hey Man Cub your skills are improving. Weldings not too bad either😄😄. Keep it up
What amp breaker does it require? Thanks.
50A and 6 gauge wire but you could probably get away with 40A and 8 gauge on low settings, wouldn't recommend it though.
@@mr.3phase228 80% rule, definitely 50 A. Maxing out is rarely good. Love your handle. We got 3 ph at our restaurant in 1996 (I helped pull the big wire, ugh!!), really does better with motors and other things, though they are harder to resell if you upgrade since fewer buyers have access to 3 ph.
Great demonstration's...
Hey nice video but my question from a pipe welder running 6010 root to 7018 hot & cover how does that machine run without switching every time you go from 6010 to 7018
Just pulled the trigger on this rig last week. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Can't wait to play with it!
Post back with updates
Did yours show up?
Any updates?

Hey guys. What is that green hold down bar called? I've seen it before in other videos but can't seem to find it anywhere.
That's one bad ass green machine💪💪💪
Nice. video. You used angle iron on the weld cart. Machines simply slide in.. they never fall through or go anywhere but within the angle iron..
Good video, good content, looks like a nice machine!
Dude hows this machine holding up?
nice demo thanks
can you weld fluxcore with this machine
Great demo thanks
How about a review of the Lightning MTS 275. One doest not seem to exist, a few channels posted videos that they recieved it but no operating videos
We posted one a couple months back
My Everlast mig welder has given me a lot of problems. Luckily it was under warranty. Had to ship it back because they only have 2 service centers in the country. Stick with Miller Lincoln or Hobart.
Which MIG welder and what is wrong with it?
Mark Lugo page
Power i-MIG 200E. The main problem was the gas solenoid would stick and I would lose a whole tank of shielding gas. There was something else too but I can’t remember. It was about a year ago. The E on the end of the model number stands for economy.
Chris Stevens yep. I watched several reviews and they were all favorable. But not long term endurance tests.
Shame we can't get this in the UK!
Now that is a cool machine all in one welder. How much is that?
Melvin Mariott 2k
It's currently 2k, but it's normally 2600.
I'm guessing you liked the machine but/because(😳) you didn't make any comments about it at the end of your demo.
I do like the dual gas setup, going to have to make a few setups for my 210EXT and 253DPI! 😎👍
Why does Everlast have "Not E6010 Rated" even though you were able to find it in the stick menu?
I am wanting to get one of these but need it to be mobile. Do you have any suggestions on what generator I should get?
can this machine be used for cold wielding?
Can this machine do dual shielded flux core?
Great review 😁! I've been eyeballing them Everlast machines, they're not so over priced like their blue compatriots 😊. Thanks for the share👍🙂👍.
They are made in China, no? Blue is a USA machine.
Choose your battles wisely - China will OWN every market if your only concern is price.
@@Factory400 I think they originated in San Francisco.
Blue is not a USA machine! Do some research!
Does it come with 2 regulators?
So, the shot of the 7018 chipping slag is not the same bead as the cleaned up shot, look at the end of the weld, it's about 1/2" from the end of the joint with slag, then cleaned up it's to the very end of the joint. Might want to double check your edits.
dREaDneckFab: Also, the initial comments by the channel (click on "...more" on the left side) refer to the machine being reviewed as the model 275 instead of the actual 225 reviewed here, apparently recycled a bit too fast from that review 😮.
Is the price for the 275 secret? Can't find that on here. Did I just miss it?
I found the price...
Can this run dual-shield flux-core or only self-shielding/no gas?
what to do to test it in Poland?
How much did you pay for that unit
What is the different between 225 and 275?
why would you want 5% oxygen? I thought the purpose of the inert gas was to prevent oxygen from reacting with the metal
Its nitrogen that really fucks ya. thats the one you're avoiding.
Oxygen is also used in the steel manufacturing process while it is molten. In welding it is absorbed by the molten puddle and if I remember correctly it binds with contaminates and ends up bubbling out with the contaminants attached so it cleans essentially. Same with CO2.
question:
I noticed you plugged into "208 1 phase" the machine says 240 volt.. also, what amp breaker is it running off of?
Just read the owners manual for this unit.
Input: 120V - 42.8 Amps Max - 1eff 34 Amps
240V- 44.9 Amps Max - 1eff 35 Amps
So if the branch circuit is only going to be used for this welder you can use a 40 amp breaker 8 gauge wire but I would go with 50 Amp and 6 gauge .
Miller for the win!
if you like to throw away a extra grand or more than okay.
