Annie (Kristen Wiig), is a maid of honor whose life unravels as she leads her best friend, Lillian (Maya Rudolph), and a group of colorful bridesmaids (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) on a wild ride down the road to matrimony. Annie's life is a mess. But when she finds out her lifetime best friend is engaged, she simply must serve as Lillian's maid of honor. Though lovelorn and broke, Annie bluffs her way through the expensive and bizarre rituals. With one chance to get it perfect, she'll show Lillian and her bridesmaids just how far you'll go for someone you love.

It’s been 10 years now, and I think we can all agree that the bridal shop scene is 100% essential in this film. A miss by these reviewers.
the sick scene was unnecessary?
What, like women don't get sick and vomit and shit? Come on, that's what makes the movie believable!
The movie wasn't that funny but it was good. It had its funny moments but it was just a good movie.
@MacMaraScott they don't go to vegas, have a bachelor/bachelorette party, get drunk and lose a friend. It is nothing like The Hangover.
I do agree with Matt. The final act feels contrived and probably an excuse to give a shot to Kirsten Wig to do her stuff that she did in her car. So yes that takes some points off. But I liked the romantic angle between her and cop. Like its not cheesy and it adds to the narrative. And there was a good performance from the actor who played him.
Matt was editor in chief Rotten Tomatoes ? He is the big guy here.
well I must say I liked the food poisoning scene and its well done. I am actually laughing as I write and remember that scene.
I think what added to the impact of the scene was that this was a classy boutique and how they brought it down. That whole thing about the class boutique added to it impact. There are few good scenes which are really laugh aloud. I think the scenes on the plane are good. Then when Kirsten Wig loses her mind at the wedding. And then the scenes when Melissa McCarthy drive out with those puppies is really good.
All in all Bridesmaid is a good chick flick. I do not think its more than that. But its done well. Thanks to its cast, especially Kirsten Wig who brings heart to that role. And Melissa McCarthy with some big blast comedic moments. I give this a 7-7.5. Its a fine effort.
Educate yourself when your making a review, I find it rude to refer to Melisa McCarthy as "the fat women" twice when you were corrected the first time.
@MacMaraScott Yup, from the makers of Hangover. I think they wanted to appeal to women too so they made this.
Hey, I am as girlie girl as they come and I LOVED THE POOP SCENE!!! It was classic and had me literally clutching my own stomach so that I WOULDN'T LOSE MY DINNER ALL OVER MYSELF!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA GREAT MOVIE!!!
I loved the flight scene. Ironically, I also really liked the food poisoning scene they talked about appealing to 14 year old boys. No, I busted a gut!
Wiig said they sent the script to Apatow and he loved it, but thought they should add a scene about poop. To be honest this part of the trailer made not want to see it, but looks like a solid rental.
Ben and I both give it a 7.7?!?!?! Weird?
And I thought the poop scene worked b/c of all the reasons Ben gave. It most definitely could of been about 20 minutes shorter.
This might be the first time I'm in full agreement with this guy.
This is a classic how dare they??? one of my favorite movies of all time. The devil wears prada, then mean girls and then a tie between the hangover and bridesmaids.
Speaking of shirts, where does Matt get those EPIC bowling shirts?
A lot of the scenes from the trailer were edited out of the film, too. Thank goodness to that! The film was a riot.
You know a movie is bad when people start talking about how bad it is while reviewing a different movie.
The scenes you guys said it didn't need are the ones I found the funniest. The car, the bathroom. They were hilarious mixed in with this smart film.
saw Matt Atchity on Cnn today.
I don't get why people hate the food poisoning scene, potty/puke humor is fine as long as its FUNNY. And it WAS.
wtf? The bathroom scene was brilliant! - It wasn't a cheap bathroom joke. It was a scene that needed to be there because it would seem like a very horrible experience to go through. But did you guys have problem with the extra two girls that DIDNT NEED TO BE THERE? Or didn't even contribute that much to the film.
Even by the end when she apologizes to everyone and saves Lilian's wedding?
8.5 Christy, 7 Matt, 7.7 Ben...that makes a 7.7 average. Just sayin'.
@logoth80
Yeah he was counting a 7.5 instead of a 8.5
This was much better than The Hangover!
i see ben has a chest tattoo.. what is it?
@MacMaraScott no it's not
The Trailers/commercials don't seem to have done the movie justice, it seemed like a crappy chick-flick comedy, but the more i hear about it the better it gets in my mind to the point where it is considered "watchable".
@MacMaraScott ah......no its not
I hate how people are saying this is the female version of hangover. It is literally nothing close to the hangover, in the movie they don't even go to vegas. but besides that this movie was fantastic, however a little long.
I just saw this, and I thought it was brilliant. It was weird to be in a raunchy comedy theatre with mostly women- I hope producers recognise this market and go for it, and guys can start to see women as funny. Most already do. The guys in the theatre were dying.
I hate how people cringe when others mention bad movies. Yes, "Bride Wars" sucked, but there's no need to act like you are having a minor stroke when people refer to it. It's less than two hours of your life man...
The sick scene was terrible. I lived the movie until that scene, and I knew it was coming the moment they walked in the bridal shop. I muted it. I kept thinking it would end but it NEVER DID. I have emetophobia, which is the intense fear of vomit, and this scene was the LAST thing I needed.
the movie was hella funny and i generally despise 'poop' humor but i think they did a great job with it. my favorite part was when the 'larger woman' was sitting on the sink and saying 'DONT FUCKING LOOK AT ME' lmao!
@MacMaraScott not really
@designkid5555 haha i know i am.. i stand alone on this one
ben says "contextual is my word." wtf??
@Solareffects are you sure, because it really looks like a tattoo, or some really weird chest hair
@MacMaraScott It's really not
why has christy got a pentagram on her chest?
Wow the sick scene was one of the funniest scenes in the whole movie.
saw tis last nite, funniest film in a long time.
whole cinema was laughing together... which I think we all need now - a good laugh!
Knocked up is a great comedy
the average of 8.5, 7 & 7.5 is 7.7 not 7.4
That was kind of the point of the movie...
I LOVED the poop scene. Come on!
I agree, like Ben said, it's a rare time you can defend one!
ROCK AND ROLL CHRISTY!!!
*Throws up the devil horns*
brideswar was not a bad movie
can anyone say the female version of hangover, BUT boring.....i can!
Just saw this movie and lagged all the way through. The sceen where the fat chick was speeding away with the puppies pushed me over the edge lol.
I hated the movie so much that I stopped it half an hour in.
Does Ben have a chest tattoo??? WTF
Uhh so is it a chick flick comedy or a regular comedy for guys as well?
These reviews have pitchfork scores....
@RobbyWithNoIE they cant be throwing a 10 to anything
Wow, they didn't like the diarrhea jokes? I mean who doesn't like a good fart joke in movies, especially if women are doing it? They almost said it offended them... I laughed my ass of at that XD!
Since when is being long a problem? LOL
In my days long shit was a good thing LOL
It is maybe long, but as long as it consistently delivers I never minded long.
Particularly, I wouldn't cut a second from Benjamin Button, it was truly a masterpiece form start to finish... And that was long shit we are talking about lol
Smart Feminism? LOL Please so you mean to tell me they were shitting for female equality in movies to be just as bold as the men. Give ME A BREAK
This movie looks really bad ... full of cliche about women being jealous of other women and how "all women" want to get married, blah blah blah. But I'll take you guys' word for it, and maybe I will actually consider seeing it :) I did like the Hangover, but was annoyed that there were no female characters ... other than the shrill wife to be and the HOOKER. I'm waiting for the movie that shows girls and guys just hanging out together ... you know, the way real ppl do...
So much truth in wedding drama. No wedding escapes it so this was a clever storyline, but sadly the pooping ruined it for me. EXCEPT: Melissa McCarthy stood out . . . the scene where she reveals her true self was so real. So happy to see her recognized by the Academy. If she wins, she'll deserve that award. She's a remarkable actress.
Basically a ten minute review of the shit scene.
The A team minus Jkim
@mtp4300 Nah, just looks like a ruffled undershirt
am i the only one who disliked this movie?
Laughed even.
Am I truly... First?
I suppose so.
@MacMaraScott AKA this is a worse version
@MacMaraScott but better and funnier
Christy looks hot!
too bright
that gross scene WAS necessary
@MacMaraScott yaaaaaa lets do this! lets party baby!!! yaaaaaaaa yeeeeeha!!!!! like ridin a bull
Kristen wiig ruined snl
So is this a chick flick comedy? Or more mainstream comedy?
For being the "funniest movie of the year" this movie sucked. The main character was annoying. The only funny character was the chubby chick.
@leo1901 they were planning to...hahaha
@dwalden74 Haha. Hell yeah, man. Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang.
@SilvoKnight Say it last night with two of my guy friends and it was fucking awesome go see it
This movie was horrible...
WOW Matt has dropped many pounds!
A truly terrible movie; if you have a sense of humour and average patience, don't bother with this. Its awfulness has nothing to do with the sex of the characters. This would be a terrible movie if all the characters were male
I'm so appalled that anyone can rave about this movie, so disappointed that Christy could possibly find this 'funny' or 'realistic'. Tragic.
@Aoshy1225 Ya really, is she a satanist or something? lol.
@eagles980 No Shit (get it get it XD)
Bridesmaids is sooo overrated. It's like a 5.5.
This movie wasn't funny, dismally awful on every level.
