The suspense that this scene builds up is amazingly good. The countdown is used perfectly to drive the pacing and the viewer's emotions from start to finish. The dialogue, with plenty of time left, starts calm and collected, and gradually becomes more and more intense as the time diminishes, all the way up to the moment when, despite knowing exactly what's coming, the viewer is horrified and downhearted to realize that 100 ticks was not enough. And all of this makes the final twist exponentially more powerful. I will never get over how fantastic this show is, and it's the absolutely brilliant moments like this that make it so incredible.
I keep coming back to watch this. When I first saw this scene while watching the show I thought "They're not really going to show that clock tick 100 times are they?" There were so many outstandingly artistic scenes in this anime that they took a lot of risks with that there won't be another like it again. I enjoyed the artistry of the Ef series even more than I did Madoka.
Watch more anime made by studio SHAFT. SHAFT made the Ef anime and most of their anime have this kind of visual style (the syle is less noticeable in some anime, though). My favorite SHAFT anime in terms of visual style are Hidamari Sketch, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei and the 3rd Madoka Magica movie. None of them have a scene like this, but they have plenty of other artistic stuff.
ef is an underrated masterpiece. I'm still astonished that I was able to see this anime, and wish I could forget it so I can be blown away one more time.

I don’t understand why people cried at a guy who’s going to turn out miserable with her in the end no doubt. Hiro and Kai are a better match Miyako is a absolutely terrible person she deserves what she thinks she does to be miserable. At least she realizes this before the idiot that make then biggest mistake of his like the guys a fucking idiot.

i watched this in dub. While at first Miyako's voice sounds a little too dramatic, it turns to be great to portray the carefree personality she has. I recommend watching the dub.
