A little known masterpiece, written by Geezer Butler, that to date I've never heard on the radio. It's a pity since to me, this is hands down one of the band's best songs.
My favorite Sabbath song, it shows they were far more talented than the metal they were founded upon. Juniors Eyes is my no 2 and I own every ‘real’ album.
My favorite band. Got 2 see them bristow VA on the end tour. Smoked 2 jays and a tall boy. When I was 26 I had made the final decision that black Sabbath would be my favorite and I've done so since I'm now 43 and today is a good Sunday to smoke and chill to this
I was 17 when it came out in the 70's, I remember it so well. Boy- you weren't born yet! I'm 68 and I still rock to it! And That's A Natural Fact! Jack!
Ozzys vocals on this song is beautiful. I have a hard time not listening to this a hand full of times in a row. It’s a awesome song. The album is amazing.
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are my favorite albums from Black Sabbath. I believe it was the peek of the bands creativity. Still listening all these years later and lovin it... 🎸
My favourite song by them - polished and refined but still rocking and very uplifting! Euphoric and Endorphinating! It ought to have been released as a single.
a national acrobat is what we need right now to bring peace love hope faith back into our lives and understanding of what is going on with the universe thank you infinity chapter 8 tod
My favorite band I even tattooed ozzy on my knuckles 11 yrs old when my cousin n big brother brought me and my twin1981my husband took me to see black sabbath a few times in Minneapolis mn . So great❤ . I love you ozzy ❤. Forever. Been listening since kindergarten. My teacher had show n tell brought black sabbath black sabbath . Mrs braebeck she said .. are you sure . I smiled proudly and shook my head yes 😊
This is actually a top notch channel, I've only seen a couple uploads so far but the quality is excellent as is the imagery and lyrics. This song is yet another masterpiece written by Butler, & for whatever reason never heard on the radio (as I point out above in another comment). The song is actually awesome, yet remains so underrated.
My favorite Ozzy-era Sabbath track. So beautifully composed and mixed. By the end there's like 15 layers of instrumentation blasting through your speakers in stereo. Fantastic editing as well, man.
True. Will Malone and The Phantom Fiddlers did a great on this track. Geezer's lyrics are, once again, deep and meaningful. It is said that Ozzy thought he had come to the wrong studio when he saw The Phantom Fiddlers there. Thanks, man.
His acoustic stuff is so classical sounding it gives a goth vibe to the metal. Think of the courage it took to broaden the scope of their music album after album. They were metal in the regard the took the artificial color out of peoples perceptions of the world. I thank God for the band and the impact theyve had on me.
A fan since I was 14, in '88. A massive fan. Based half my life philosophy in Geezer's words, and led me on a great path in life with tons of ups and downs, but wonderful. I remember putting this on repeat on my Walkman in '88, especially hanging with my friend Brian from across the street (apparently a friend no more...not my doing. We both had a love for Ozzy and Sabbath). How quick the cliches arrive about time. My thought, walking to Brian's one cloudless day and thinking about this song and the band's rep, was a first glimpse into adult hypocrisy. Devil music? Nah, you're just scoring points for a future career, wannabe "journalists" that created the Satanic Panic, just like they did the East coast West coast bs.
I think its bad that the only Black Sabbath songs you hear is war pigs, paranoid, sweet leaf and a few other songs. They deserve more airplay. I'd have a heart attack if heard this on the radio
To George t I've been saying that for yrs.i totally agree.to b honest with u the only songs I hear on the radio. R war pigs paranoid iron man that's it man. How about the sabatage album or vol. 4; or sabbath bloody sabbath I mean what's going man matter of fact I don't even listen.to radio any more the blows it sucks.thanks for the input man
Pure Geezer lyrics. There was even a Swedish stoner metal band (Plasmic Ocean) who took their name from this. (And Ozzy later sang about "plastic water" in his solo career.)
It was nice of the band to record Geezer's song and include it on the record so I am not saying they should have omitted Spiral Architect. Yeah, the song is pretty, kind of sweet and sappy and the lyrics are on the pretentious side. Honestly I do not even know what many of the words mean and though they all sound "important" I really can't fathom their collective meaning. Maybe this is Black Sabbath's answer to Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra? This is not one of my favorites and it wasn't when I bought SBS new in '73. The lead-in also sounds similar to PinBall Wizard by the Who, probably not a good initial sign that Architect was going to kick your ass especially when the string arrangements kick in.
The only songs I hear on the radio. R paranoid war pigs and iron man what about the rest of the rest of the sabbath greats I can go on and on.maybe all the other sabbath songs r to heavy for the djs.makes me wonder man.
As national acrobat says, it’s about DNA. I think the collective unconscious theory by JUNG plays a good role too, and the concepts of life, the value of Earth and our Inner world, and Know that it is Good is an allusion to I suppose the creation of everything. The light was created and it was good, otherwise they are describing cryptic imagery related to life, and that our inner spiral Architect is really one with us, that’s the funny paradox. As you build it pays, but who are you and what made you- it right? Maybe DNA isn’t just an It. Something transcended a lot dont realize about Black Sabbath is their spiritual nature and honesty. This song and album, especially A national acrobat, but this whole album shines powerful with the concept of reincarnation, Life and death, and to me the lyrics offer inspiration and consolation at the hardships of life. Like “never say day,” “it’s a hard road”, etc (:

Easily one of Geezer Butler's most dramatic and sensory-rich masterpieces. A true 1973 gem.
First of all it's a song about love for God... I grew up in Chicago and I heard the song on the radio all the time and when l lived in Oakland CA
@Andrew Gray the evil/satanic imagery was just to sell
I think we both know why
With all due respect, that is your interpretation of it. Not mine however. 5:34 .@@andrewgray6834

For sure. Shows well how versatile they were.

This, and Master of Reality might be their best albums.
@@perryplayzzz I agree.
Arguably the best Sabbath song ever recorded.
A National Acrobat. Also one of the best
@@seanadams8689I agree with you there. It deserves to be known
Been many years since hearing this. Still an awesome song in 2023!
I’ve just recently decided to listen to Black Sabbath’s music
and it for sure was not a mistake :)
About time. Good start with this masterpiece
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Sabotage are my favorite albums from Black Sabbath. I believe it was the peek of the bands creativity. Still listening all these years later and lovin it... 🎸

Nice production of this Beautiful Song...
Almost like the beginning of the Moody Blues song "Ride My See Saw"
You thinking about Moody blues song "Question"

Geezer (who wrote the lyrics) has stated ”was about life's experiences being added to a person's DNA to create a unique individual”.
