I tried to set a monthly budget or restrict the number of items allowed monthly in the past but it wasn't successful. I made a progress when I started to implement no-buy months and create wishlists. Last year I had 5 no-buy months, purchased 11 fewer items than the previous year and overall spent less on clothes. My goal for this year is also 6 no-buy months and so far is going great, feeling very positive about it. The online world loves extreme challenges, but they are often unrealistic and unattainable. I think it's important to take small steps and gradually work on breaking your shopping habits. Don't be too hard on yourself, you are doing great.
We used to clean patent leather shoes with banana peels. Wipe them with a damp cloth to get rid of surface dirt. Then, rub the inside of a banana peel all over the shoes. Really rub it in and let it sit for 10 or 15 minutes. Finally polish it up with a clean cloth. I don’t know why this worked, but it did.
I am doing a low buy and I am buying only stuff that I really need (I have been buying exclusively second hand clothes since 2018). Since the beginning of the year I have bought a light spring/summer jacket, a pair of sandals, a pair of loafers, and two t-shirts (and got one free). I have been participating to clothes swaps though and got some very cute pieces (a cardigan, two blouses, a skirt, some tops, a tweed blazer, two pairs of shorts, and a fantastic coat!). I am very satisfied about my wardrobe.
Don't kick yourself for not being perfect - you're doing a great job of re-engaging with your goals with your Insta challenge! Sticking to a low-buy is a lot easier in January/Feb, post Christmas gifts and when you probably have a robust selection of winter garments already. It gets harder with a change of seasons when you start being bombarded with new styles and pieces from retailers, influencers etc. I went off the rails a bit myself this season with Sezane as I just loved so many of the dresses in their Italian collection... That said, I reined things in by muting notifications from most of the retailers I have accounts with - you can't buy it if you don't know about it! The Celine bag was totally worth it - gorgeous!
Katie, I totally feel you. I had set my low-buy rules back in December and managed to follow them through until March - I even watched your video from last year! I realized that starting my own channel definitely hasn’t helped me much either 🫣 I’m looking forward to your 75-days challenge, my bank account would’ve loved it if I could join you but I’m already planning to splurge a bit on an upcoming trip 🤪
You've made me feel better. I love fashion too and wanted to shop less, but haven't done too well. At least im being more intentional. Don't have Instagram Im afraid, but good luck!
75 hard challenge sounds great, I love trying to be creative and appreciating the clothes I already have. I haven’t done an official low or no-buy before, but I don’t really want anything at the moment or have a wish list, so I think I’ll join in on a no-buy now too 🙌
Don’t stress, I’ve bought so much this month! With changing seasons and all the new in clothes I had to the urge to get so many new bits. You’re doing much better than I am!! Vinted is a great plan though one in one out
Hi, I’m also doing 1 item/ month low buy this year 😊😊 I was doing well until now. This week I’ve ordered 3 more items .. 2 from my shopping list, 1 random impulse buy. All on sale which is why I couldn’t resist. So… no shopping for me until August.. ❤❤
I feel you, girl! Good luck with your challenge, it’s very ambitious! ❤ I feel I’ve been doing better since leaving social media for good and only keeping my UA-cam channel.
Hey! A Low-buy is definitely difficult and rules are always a must! :) Also you need to give yourself some grace as it sounds like you are monitoring your spending in a reflective way. I'm using Indyx at the moment as my outfit documentation and it is super helpful! AND fun :)
I have the rule of 1 item per month as well but it doesn't matter if it's new or secondhand. So far going as intended, probably because I'm short on money and not having enough money prevents me from buying 😅 The problem is now I have exams coming up while I'm short on formal clothes and my summer wardrobe is basically lacking EVERYTHING (my only sandals literally fell apart, my t-shirts stretched to a disgusting shape, my last year purchases went bad because of material or practicality,...). I might need to do some shopping out of necessity but I have no idea how I'll be able to afford that as I'd like to invest in something good quality.
I’d love to see a chart on how much you spent in total and seeing the items once more all together. 😅 thanks for this, so good for comparison. I’d love to try a no spend month. Feels very hard…
Hi Katie 👋🏻 I enjoyed your video very much, it’s nice to see influencers are actually encouraging people to save money. I have been trying to cut down on all my purchases and pay off all my credit cards and save some money and just use what I have , I do have a lot of clothes ,shoes ,and make up. I do not need to buy anything for a very long time. seeing your Vlog actually encouraged me even more ,thank you very much. I do love your green bag a lot ,good for you!. You’ve been wanting that bag for the past two years ,and all the other purchases are very legit, I fell in love with the boots, actually I added the boots to my favorite once I am done with the stop spending I will definitely buy them. Good luck.❤
Loved this video Katie ❤and thank you for sharing how your low buy is going. The Céline box bag is stunning and such an excellent find from Vinted. Sticking to a low buy is challenging. I decided to do a closet clean out (sold most of my Sézane collection and other items) and no buying anything new. 🫣I hate to admit that I have bought some new items. I’m still proud of myself as what’s gone out is more than what I’ve bought.
Love this! My low buy since Jan went as well as it could i.e. could have been way better. Concidentally, I've also finally gotten serious and started the 75 challenge a week ago! Here's to valuing what we already own and practicing shopping WITHOUT buying. Good luck!
I’m on such a high buy right now 🙈 I transitioned from being stay at home mom to working full time in the office so I had to repurchase my entire wardrobe..
My no buy was for the first 4mons of this year. Its been well, no no buy because of Sezane… I’ve bought 10 pieces since Jan with a few more on the way. It felt like with the spring drops, I just fell in love with everything. I also bought a few pairs of jeans as well. Ugh I must stop!
You are adorable. I wish I had your discipline. I really have too many clothes, but I can't resist that shiny new item when I see it and tell myself just one more to complete.my wardrobe. In my defense , most of my purchases are more classic pieces in good fabrics which will be worn for years !Best of luck with your low but goals .
I definitely broke my low-buy streak with the last two months. I have some regret pieces in my closet that I was looking to replace with better versions when I find them. I just so happened to find them this last month 😅 I’m telling myself it’s okay since I’ll sell the regret pieces.
I love that you put sizes in the description box! I was thinking about that sweatshirt, and it's helpful to use you as a reference 😊Your watch looks great! I'm seriously considering buying the blue Loewe Cubi bag as my next big purchase. Do you find it easy to use?
Glad it’s helpful!! Ahh I love the Cubi! I think I may as well do a dedicated review video on it. But yes it’s super easy to use! I guess the only negative is it’s a light coloured canvas so a bit more high maintenance than leather.
Hi Katie ❤ I gave up IG for various reasons, but I’d still like to see the 75 outfits. Maybe you’ll also be able to do some shorts and post on UA-cam. It would be great for the bigger number of followers you have here :)
Love sitting down to listen to your vids. Like chatting with my girlfriend. ❤ I need to sell so much of my Sézane stuff. Ugh. 😅 And I could make so many videos about items I’ve bought and need to sell.
@@katie_louise I feel I have way too much that I don’t need or wear. What do you think would be the easiest way to sell? My Instagram? POSHMARK? Vestiaire?
The Celine bag is a dream, you would be doing yourself a disfavor by not buying it, it is a forever purchase, just sell everything that you don’t love and enjoy your beautiful things 🙂
Sorry Katie I wont be going on Instagram. I'm trying to challenge myself with less social media.. ha ha. Please dont be too hard on yourself. I think that we all deserve some treats from time to time as well as having the correct clothing to exist in this world . And dressing nicely is a type of self-respect too. With that said without of course depleting the earth's resources and being mindful with our shopping. Hopefully you will enjoy your new bags and have great fun owning them.
Love this video and love the Celine bag - honestly I think if something is on your wish list for years and you get a chance to buy it at a bargain price it really doesn't count. You'd kick yourself if you passed it up for a self imposed rule
You do make me laugh with your honesty and embarrassment at having bought more than you should have . Love all of the purchase especially the bags and I have been looking at the same watch but with a leather strap. Good luck for the next 75 days !
Recently I've started being strongly displeased with the options available. Nearly everything I see is either low quality, bad fit, plastic, or a scam website.
Whoever the heck doesn’t like if you have a mug and frame needs to get the hell over it that is the most ludicrous complaint I’ve ever heard lol get that cup and frame girl!
What size is your Chamade sweater please? I have my eye on getting it. I have the Amore, Baci, Pasta sweater in S but thinking about getting M for a more loose fit. Is the M still quite fitted, if that is what you have?
Yes I have the M and would personally go for the L if I was to get it again, mine was a gift so didn’t choose the size. It fits fine but I’d like it a little slouchy and oversized.
Adore you Katie, and would follow if could, but don't have an Instagram Please don't be too hard on yourself! I'm really looking forward to the 75 day challenge, hope you post it maybe in short form on UA-cam, please and thank you! Keep up the great content and God bless! ❤
Thank you for the video! That Celine bag is gorgeous! The colour is amazing so I can see why you got that! I think that having the intention to buy less is easier than the reality of buying less but I think you have done quite well all in all. I will definitely follow you on instagram 😊
Katie, you do whatever you want with your mug ❤ great video makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who's fallen off the wagon! Following on Instagram now :)

Absolutely love the Celine bag… green is my favorite color 💚. Definitely a dream bag 🥰
Green is my favourite colour too!! Apart from maybe burgundy hehe. Thank you 💚🥰
@@katie_louise I bought one of my dream bags a few years ago. A Celine nano luggage in Amazone. I’d love an Hermes Constance in green 🥰
