God I’m old. We used to spend a lot of time in that area 40 years ago and caught and ate lots of fish out of those lakes. I gotta get back out there. Thanks for the reminder. Nice video.
Hello from Tom O’Dell! I’m sure you were referring to someone else (at 5:30) but it made my wife laugh when I showed it to her. My wife and I have done this hike with our boys a number of times over the years. It’s one of our favorites. Long time subscriber and look forward to every video - Thanks for all you’ve posted in the last year!
Tom O’Dell! It’s you!! Glad I made you’re wife laugh!🤣 I was referring to the British singer but after speaking to my wife she tells me O’Dell is a common last name and will likely meet many “O’Dell’s” in my lifetime 😉 Thank you very much for the support - many more videos to come!
For those of you itching to hop in the car and do this hike, be advised that you do need a permit to overnight camp here. You DO NOT need a permit to simply day hike this trail. Also, be aware that the very moment you step foot from your vehicle, you are already higher than 10,000 feet above sea-level. It’s advisable to first take adequate time to get acclimated to this elevation prior to hiking the 20 Lakes Basin trail. There is a precaution you should know of... altitude sickness, it may impact your hike here. This illness is a pretty nasty hit too, and it most certainly will ruin your day. Additionally, be prepared for (quickly...) changing weather conditions in this sector during anytime of the open season. This area is exposed - with only minimal canopy on the north-eastern edge of Saddlebag Lake to hunker-down under if it becomes necessary. Day hikers should take more water then they expect to consume, or ensure that you pack a water filtration instrument. This is one of the top/best day hikes in the Eastern Sierra. Any avid hiker should do it at least once. NOTE: If you are overnight camping in this area and find an improvised fire-ring at your campsite, simply don’t use it to start a campfire. You will be in violation of the NO CAMPFIRE...(above 10,000 feet) restriction. You don’t want to find a Ranger with their digital thermometer standing over your campfire first thing in the morning!!!
Thank you for adding your informative comment - all very important things to consider and abide by when entering into any wilderness region. Thank you!
I really enjoy your videos. Questions: Are you filming with a gopro and are you using an external mic to cut down wind noise? I'm getting ready for PCT and deciding on the simplest and most minimal setup to vlog. What would you bring?

Beautiful place!Thank you!
Happy to share!
Where do you live that you access all of these great spots so often?
GOOD STUFF Scottie! Noticed you didn't fish though. follow Ape Man and like him, I need to go there! Thanks so much for the great views!
Next time for sure!
Would you happen to know if Dogs are allowed on this trail?
LOVE that area!! I believe the water level was so low because they have been working on refurbishing the dam. (I could be wrong)
2:53 do you have a low foot arch? With each step I see a bit of pronation action happening in this shot.
Another beauty!
Hoover Wilderness is like going into Mordor.
Unbelievable!! Thank you for sharing this gem. Which GoPro are you using?
GoPro Hero 8
Beautiful

Thank you! I use a GoPro with a wind filter I bought from Amazon for $10. If I were to do it all over again, I would go with an DJI Osmo Pocket 2!
@@Sheety33 thank you! I'll check that out.👍
Wow beautiful
where is the trailhead?
How far is this from Las Vegas????
Do you need permitt for this hike?
No permit is required to day hike the 20 Lakes Basin Trail. If you plan to overnight camp here, a permit is required.
Can this hike be done in Jan?
Most likely not, but with cross country skis you could probably ski the area depending on conditions.
