Nice video. I like that it wasn't sponsored or even mentioned Japanese knives or a VPN

Top 3 would be Windvane, solar, VHF communications? But Ionizers and extra grounding plates, a portable rain barrel and fishing gear are on the list for me too.

Chris you look so sophisticated at the helm in this video ⛵⛵. #1 first aid .. safety, #2 water maker, #3 solar power (Batteries) to keep you going

I guess safety gear is a given. If not it should be.

How about the safety gear? Epirb, SSB radio, sat phone, life raft, jack stays etc. More important than a watermaker.

Before embarking on the epic ocean crossings , do yourself a favour and do a first aide course or two , also then you can purchase an off shore medical kit which covers more than just bumps and scratches . Good ones are virtually what they carry in an ambulance

Can you use a cheap Harbour Freight pressure washer and use the pump out of it for home made water maker?

I would start with the coast guard list of what you need to have for safety. Then water, food, shelter, first aid/medications, means of defense, and a plan. Just like you need on land, but no hopes of resupply. Autopilots are better than dumbass on watch navigating. Rather look at stars and use the autopilot personally. The boat sails its self. Storm anchor or other such device could save your life or boat damage. I say get both kinds of panels one for sunny days and cloudy days. Super capicitor banks extend battery life. The super capicotor bank cycles not your batteries. I like the wind vanes myself. My top 3. Water, large galley, and completely enclosed. No reason to go outside. Center cockpit. X2 200 gallon water tanks for large family. About to go detail a boat that had a large independence day party.

You can live without food but you can't live without water. So watermaker #1. Autopilot for infrequent crossing and hydrovane if circumnavigating. Self steer #2. Largest battery bank you can install with enough solar to keep it topped off #3. The last thing you want to have to do is run the engine or genset to keep your batteries charged. There aren't any gas stations in the middle of the ocean. You want to limit fuel use as much as possible so you have it when you need it. Interestingly these are all things you would want if you were a island hopping live aboard cruiser living at anchor 90% of the time. "But your boat isn't Blue Water..." What BS.

@@bgauthi1 I know, my thoughts were more of "exactly" and this is why it drives me nuts and you see how truly dumb the blue water debate really is
