I just had to replace the batteries in my Mother's 2010 Taurus Limited. There was plenty of warning that the battery was getting weak since the remote had almost no range. Keep the videos coming.
OMG!!! Thank you so much for posting this vid!! You really helped me to verify if I was right about what could be the issue... but I didn't know how to open the Key FOB & I was worried that I would break the FOB. Saved me a trip to the dealer & kept me from paying an outrageous fee!!!
Great video! My local dealer wanted me to charge me $586 for new keys, due to a 'short in the keys'. However, my Edge would start fine with the key in the center console. It appears a new battery will resolve the problem.
Thank you! I DID look through the manual but couldn't find the info! I called the dealership and they just wanted me to tow it to them!!! Thank you for saving me money!
Thanks for this video! It saved me a major headache. BTW, as someone else mentioned, in the 2010 Taurus the backup slot is located in the center console.
Can key fobs go bad? It unlocks and starts the car. But if it's not in the cubbie in the center counsel I get a "no key fob detected". I've replaced the key fob batteries and also checked the second fob which has no issues.
Good day, please for reasons I can't understand my Key fob & the spare (2012 Ford Taurus SHO) can't connect with my car just after parking which is weird. I can't even locate the back up transceiver slot of my car as it may not be in glove box as shown in your video here. Can you help please asap? Thanks.
I don’t know if you’ll read this comment because it’s an old video. I replaced the battery in the key fob. It started up but then said no key detected right after. Before I changed the battery it wouldn’t start up at all but got it to work a little for lock and unlock and even remote start. So not sure what is wrong with it.
Yes, the backup moved to center console, back, left but .... HOW do u get the battery inside? The oval opening inside is too small to fit the battery and there are 3 screws. Must those come out first?? Your vid is very good but stopped just short of what I needed. Thanks!!!
Thanks for sharing that. We get them from time to time only to find out remote key is very weak....Or the module needs to be program but hardly the issue.
Yeah we are just starting to see them now since the batteries are getting on in age. We are seeing the new cars and trucks have problems though but that is from dead antennas in the car and software problems in the RFA module.
I have a 2011 MKX that recently did the "no key" thing. I operated the door lock button which worked and then it started! Can it be the battery if it actually operated the "lock" and then started?? Seems like something else going on!
thank you so very much for the tip,i.m having the same problem right now,"" no key detected"" mines a 2011 mks so I'll check the center console this A.M also how to open the transmitter to change the battery, saved me a tow to the dealer,20 miles away plus their labor, about $150 all together, thanks again
+FordTechMakuloco I was just curious because my friends Dodge Charger you can actually take the start/stop button off and insert a key in there to be able to still start it. so I was just wondering if Fords did the same thing or not.
Hey I attempted to diagnose this same issue on a 2009 mks today. It was doing the exact same thing. Key in glove box would start the car and only if glove box. I replaced key fob battery and still receive no fob detected error. I'm not a Ford tech so I'm kind of stumped on this one....your video got me closer to getting it though!
+dmobs383 Ditto, '09 MKS, fob would open doors but not start car unless in glove box. Changed the fob battery, same results. Luckily it's a spare fob bought on eBay and programmed by dealer. Other fob works fine.
Hey Mak Looking at a 09-10 do you suggest witch engine 3.7 or eco boost. I know you own an ecoboost. This purchase is for my mother. I really like the vehicle for her. But not looking for a maintenace nightmare. Would you recomed A used lincoln mks eco or base 3.7 ? Any insight would be appreciated? Thanks..
I have found that the battery floats around in the very poorly designed slot and quite often does not make contact with one of its terminal points thus causing the "No Key FOB Detected" situation. Jarring the key FOB or taping it on something solid will fix the situation temporarily. A proper solution can only be resolved by finding some material that will push the battery sideways to make secure contact with the positive battery contact.
I am using CR2032 battery. The problem is not with the battery but the slot in which the battery should reside. The problem is there is no dedicated slot for the battery and it floats around when the cover is snapped in place. Any other device that I have seen that uses button batteries has an indented area, spring clips, clips with screws or some other method to positively hold the battery in place, thus my comment of "very poorly designed slot". Ford or whoever built this remote 'DID NOT HAVE A BETTER IDEA'.
This helped me a little. I have a 2010 Ford Taurus SEL and my car recognizes the key so my car starts but out of no where the buttons stopped working!? What should I do?
Hi, on my 2011 lincoln mkt the remote wont lock or unlock the doors but vehicle starts without any issues. What do you think that could be? Thanks in advance.
hi my friend i want to ask u i have ford taurus 2012 limited i have one smart key and suddenly stop it not work but the car i can start it but centr lock not work and trunk not work from the keyless remote key the battrey it's ok and the remot key it's also working but with the car not working can u help me please
did you figure it out? if not read my comment above. I had same exact problem and like you I change fob battery and put new car battery in and still had no key detected. Anyways i left a detailed comment on what problem was on mine and it may be the same for you
Great channel. Not a lot of videos on the Lincoln MKS. Question about radio and satellite radio on this vehicle . Don't have the navigation. There is no sound. The Main unit and volume knob work fine. Changed all the fuses. Didn't help. As well is climate control turns on then off then back on it's own. Can't find much on the Internet about this.
I keep my key on a belt loop and the key in my back pocket. I have a 2013 MKS and occasionally I'll get a no key detected code. I just take it out of my pocket and hold it up and then the car will find it. Obviously not a low battery condition but sometimes will give me a no key found code. So if you get a code and your key is in your pocket or pursue that can cause it too.
Any idea why im getting "key fob not detected" only when i use the remote start? It worked fine and then all ofca sudden it started doing this....i hadn't touched anything
Hi. Battery replacement (changed 2x just in case) did not help in my 2014 Buick Regal. Car does start if i put the fob in to the special slot but otherwise fob is not detected. Is there anything else that can be done please? Thanks!
@@cardealerjoe285 Ended up taking it to the dealers, they have replace some module, can't remember which one as it was long time ago. 1 hour labor plus new module. Can't remember how much I've paid but it wasn't too bad. Hope it helps.
In my MKS 2009 the ignición works, but whit the control it dont let me Open the Doors, nor the funk and it dont let me set the alarm, I already checked batteries and its fine, what could it be?
Quick question. 2012 MKS. Shop tried to install remote start and could not get the pocket to do anything. Pocket seems to be dead, tried a remote without battery nothing. Replaced the pocket module, still nothing. Everything else works, remote, passive, entry, trunk. How can I trouble shoot just the pocket. thx
FordTechMakuloco Well sir idk. This is a aftermarket auto starter with cell connection similar to on star. I took the installer at their word that the pocket does not work and they can't finish the install. I agree it was strange that they needed the pocket to program the keys. Maybe they clone the signal to their module. Never had to use the pocket so it was possible. Yes I took the battery out of the spare remote which I know works, no key detected when I use the pocket. Next step is I'm going to check voltage and continuity from pocket the the control module. I'm assuming it's the larger box behind the glove box. I do have access to the Chilton online manual which is awesome. By the way thanks for providing great videos and info.
Minor update of video. I can't speak for the MKZ but the Taurus at least for 2011-14 I can't specifically speak for 2010 but for 2011 and up Taurus at least the back up slot talked about that is in the glove compartment has been moved to the Center Console.
thanks for the info. Unfortunately I just learned the proximity sensors in both of my fobs have gone bad, and I need to replace them (looking at $250 each). But at least I can drive the car while waiting for the replacements to come in. In hindsight, as cool as keyless entry and ignition go, they aren't worth the cost of replacement. If I lost or broke my other car's key it would cost at most $10 to replace. $250 is outrageous, especially in 2020.
I'm able to start my car, but the fob buttons don't work to unlock/lock the door, pop trunk or alarm. Really hoping this works. I can't leave my doors unlocked lol
Aha!!! No need to remove screws. Just slide right side of face up (side with 2032 written on it) battery into right side of oval hole and don't try to fit left side in. Just snap batt cover back on and then slide/snap in fake key!

If I put fob in back up slot in center console it would start but once removed it wouldn't. I found the actual problem and it was a wire issue under driver seat.
