    Pretty cool, one thing I thought about watching this video was, you could weld the adapter rim to the outside rim and cut square notches into the adapter rim. Then you can weld square like notches into the running rim so when you tighten them down with bolts to secure it then the forward and reverse torque will actually be pushed through the welded square notches running around the whole radius of the rims. Then the torque will push on running and adapter rim instead of just the 2 bolts holding the rim with friction as it is.

      Both very smart ideas. The first may be known from application of doubles on tractors, the second to my knowledge it totally original. A lot is probably to learn from the way doubles and triples are mounted on tractors? Both good ideas though👍 The use of 'spacers or adapter rims anyway is a major plus compared to tires that are mounted to one another without space. This allows the side of the tyre to move outward and gain contact with the ground.
      One disadvanteg of welding the adapter rim to the outside rim is that you can't use the outside rim for other purpose anymore, so this is even more flexible. Well done.

  • @dodgeme1986truck
    @dodgeme1986truck 6 років тому +6

    That is exactly the same as the pipe spacer mentioned in prior comments on your other videos just done with trailer rims instead... also you will want to have your dually tire pressures staggered to save your transaxle usually outer tires should be at 1/2 to 2/3 the pressure run in the inner tires. Also it looks like you need to air down some more or add more weight you're not getting full tire contact with the ground (full contact will double the traction and climbing capabilities like when you were backed into that small berm) increasing the tread lug contact and Traction

    I must say, I like your thinking. (Scary aint it) I am wondering about doing the same thing to my zero torn mower. I have some slopes that the added traction would be great on and like all zero turns she slides on even gentle slopes. I got to do some thinking and looking on this. My biggest problem would be having 5 foot of trailer and 7 foot of mower after the modifications. Dang it!

    • @chud327

    That John Deere went that much better with just a tyre change that a dual conversion could be a great mod - but from some comments if the transmission isn't up to the job then that would need to be changed as well which would be a pain.

    Would duals help for plowing snow? I have 75lb wheel weights on each side right now for added traction but duals plus wheel weights plus chains would make quite a tank! Can you fill the tires with sand!?

    • @chud327
      @chud327  4 роки тому

      I would guess yes on helping in the snow, but I am from Florida and no expert on snow. I know it would double you contact area which would have to help. The sand sound neat, but I have never tried it. Let me know how it goes if you do it and thanks for watching.

      It works but for how long????

    • @thevox1075
      @thevox1075 3 роки тому

      Travis McAllister I can answer that. Duals do offer better traction and floatation, but has to be done right. The weight of the machine must first be ballasted properly, or you get less traction due to floatation. Tires also need inflated to match the new ballast load. If floatation is your only goal, add no ballast and decrease tire inflation. Axle mounted duals always can deliver the torque load better than rim mounted duals. But the most important thing to ever consider, is can your machine take the extra load that duals add? That’s the actual factual science of it.
      But in this case, he just wants to do it for fun and it’s his machine, so....no harm/no foul.. some manufacturers might even ok this depending on the application. Like mowing steep grades, loose soils, or anything that requires extra traction or floatation or stability. Some tractors that weren’t meant to be turbocharged in the Midwest were fitted with them in Colorado, because ambient air was thinner, so it required induction. Circumstances sometimes requires modification.
