    After what happened to Keekihime (Kiara) recently, vtubers absolutely need to be serious about security. 99.9999% of your audience could be amazing people, but it just takes one lunatic for something bad to happen.
    Vedal recently hired a bodyguard for Toma’s stream with Neuro, which while it may have sounded extreme, was smart and absolutely necessary, imo.

    • @skrubknight884
      @skrubknight884 3 місяці тому +11

      realistically a bodyguard shouldn't be that expensive, especially if its friends or family. granted not every streamer has big bucks but i would imagine anyone who is popular enough to consider going and worry about this has the ability to save up for a hire, especially if you go as a group with other streamers, costs can be split and you still only need one person doing bouncer work.

    As a woman in the cosplay sphere, it terrifies me how a lot of vtubers are going to these with no security and are actively being preyed on.
    I hope that cosplayers can help instill some of the safety lessons theyve had to learn to them -- things like buddy systems with a trusted male friend, not sitting in one location for too long, not advertising where you are, learning hotel layouts the night before events, being aware of where security and alarms are, etc and just in general being far more willing to tell someone to fuck off.

    • @ohlawd6763

      I've never been to any sort of convention but thats wild that you need to keep a male friend around. You'd think people would be better adjusted at public events like that

      @@ohlawd6763eh, conventions appeal to the most devoted of fans and thus are going to attract the minority of more intense weirdos who don’t care about their behavior being inappropriate or reprehensible. It’s an unfortunate reality

      @@ohlawd6763 unfortunately, there's a lot of unhealthily parasocial or just outright spiteful people that you don't ever realize are there because at best they are just a name on screen, maybe they've already been banned so you don't even see them at all. But a convention is a literal giant sign advertising for people from all over to show off. it also concentrates the crazies as much as the normal folks.

      @@ohlawd6763 It makes it worse, actually. Pair financially successful, high-profile, highly desired individuals and conventions with large numbers of relatively anonymous people and overwhelming crowds. It is a strong setup for a lot of untoward and criminal behavior that, as I understand it, balances out the security measures to make it statistically pretty similar to anywhere else with that density of people.

    The favorite thing is spot on. It's same for anyone with a modicum of celebrity status, not just Vtubers. Imagine the amount of people who approach movie stars when they're just trying to enjoy food with friends or a trip to Universal with family. It comes with the territory, unfortunately. Most are harmless, luckily, and just don't understand boundaries.

    Situational awareness is key. Always assume there could be a threat lurking around, not to the point of paranoia but always look around. People who act distracted, walking looking at their phone are giving signals "I am vulnerable and easy prey". Looking around, checking the surroundings with a decent frequency, having a good route planned when going from A to B, knowing layout of the place can make a lot of difference
    1st time seeing someone? coincidence. 2nd time? maybe still coincidence. 3rd time? red flag (if in a convention it could still be a coincidence but still be attentive).
    Some stalkers get shy once noted

    I totally get why some V-Tubers protect their identity so fiercely. The only reason I use VRChat for Content Creation is because I had people recognize me locally, and start showing up at My Home years ago. That isn't even a 10th of what Popular V-Tubers have to face.
    I get nervous when I see V-tubers streaming IRL at conventions without some sort of security, because some fans don't temper their expectations. It is a Minority in the community, but that minority is very highly motivated. For me personally, I had a terrifying experience that I won't get into here.
    I more so want the audience to understand... V-tubers stick to their trusted circles for a very good reason. It's not because we dislike our fanbase. It's because a highly motivated person who has negative intent is very frightening. When they cross that boundary... It can be very bad. Peace & Love.

      @cowgba Місяць тому

      I can't speak to private security for guests and such, but oftentimes the security at cons is either volunteers with no real power or the venue's own security staff who really only care about the venue rather than the attendees.

  • @lordzaboem
    @lordzaboem 2 місяці тому +3

    That's standard Geega gr at advice that will be ignored...
    I'm willing to give streamers credit for making their own decisions. That said, us community members really really really need to stop pressuring our oshis to attend in-person events. A good portion of the blame lies with us. If a streamer does attend a con, I would recommend the smallest cons one can find. Small cons have more manageable crowds, attract fewer criminals, and are usually not the petri dishes of world-born pathogens that large cons are.
    This video is even MORE relevant, true, and based now than it was when Geega said these things not long ago.

    I wish the Convention/Special Event facilities would have better Security and I wish Twitch, UA-cam, etc. would also have better Security. The VTubers should feel safe at the Convention/Special Event and Hotel. They should also feel safe going to the after Convention/Special Event parties. I think it's sad when a VTuber has to pay out of their own pocket for Security.
    I think there's also people within the VTuber community who for one reason or another are willing to dox other VTubers. I'm not sure if it's for jealousy reasons or what. I think it's really sad when a VTuber not only has to worry about what may happen at a Convention/Special Event but also has to worry about one of their own possibly doing something to them. Right now there's a lot of not so nice things going on in the VTuber community. I really enjoy watching VTubers and I hope that they all stay safe and help protect each other.

  • @JackDespero

    It is very sad, but it is the reality. It is truly a pity that people cannot be normal. Literally a case of "this is why we cannot have nice things".
    And yes, we all think that it would be different with us, because we are chill and not dangerous, but the reality is that from the other side, you are just one among the thousands of strangers that say exactly the same thing, and they just cannot take the risk.
    I would love to send some of the warhammer girlies some custom 3d printed miniatures that I made, but I understand why they don't accept any gifts.

    I had to have this talk with my partner. She doesn't get that I'm not worried that a weirdo is stalking us cause they know us, but rather, they will stalk us cause we're connected to a few relatively active people on the internet, and we are one point that the stalkers want to go through instead.

      honestly most big streamers do a good job at managing the parasocials, but this is a problem for most internet personalities. Its much more common and dangerous for women but even the men get these creeps to some degree as well.
      after enough followers you are bound to pick up a couple that are just not right in the head because its not like there's any sort of background check for watching a streamer. and it only takes one out of the many thousands of fans some streamers might have.

  • @Nickle_King
    @Nickle_King 3 місяці тому +11

    VTubers just need to not go alone. Go with someone who can protect you. Whether it's some hired security or just a friend who can tell you and the suspicious person "No. We need to go." Because, as fun and wacky, and sexy as VTubers tend to be, and that's perfectly fine, it does mean they attract a more predatory kind of person more than just fun loving people.
    At that point, going to conventions is like going to a packed dog park with no owners or leashes and you have food. Most dogs will love you, ask for treats, or just want attention. But that's not all dogs. Some dogs will want to take everything. Others will fight among the dogs that did get treats. And a few will be wolves, brought in by the smell of food, but more interested in the person than the bread now.
    Nobody should be stopped from doing anything. But you don't walk into the ocean and not expect to get wet. Or, if you go deep enough carelessly enough, that you won't start seeing sharks. Precautions must be taken, and the best precaution you can ever take is the simplest. Just don't get into the water. You're VTubers. You can go to conventions virtually. In keeping with the metaphor, you can be in a glass boat, not in the water while observing it. But, if you do want to get into the water, the same rules apply when swimming. Don't go alone, don't go with someone who can't help you, know what's in there, and get trained on what to do if the tide changes.

      "they owe you something" has always been a one-sided delusion. the content has always been free from the start. your donations are either out of your own genuine appreciation for the content they provide (what it's meant to be) or of the validation/high of an anime girl acknowledging your existence in that single moment.
