We need this in california badly. Unfortunately the law here is vague and just says that "slower traffic must keep right". Driving the i5 is especially bad as there are more cars in the left lane than the right
I really appreciate that your department is enforcing this. I wish the same level of enforcement was seen nationwide, as it is in Arizona. I earned my driver's license in Europe, where staying in the rightmost lane at all times is strictly emphasized. The U.S. could benefit from prioritizing this practice and ensuring all drivers are on the same page. When everyone follows this principle, it makes driving much smoother for everyone.
You're right about the difference! Traffic moves so much smoother when people are following the law, and turns into a giant mess when there's people camping in the left.
I'm Canadian and cant argue with tgat..a lot of drivers love to camp in the left lane..drives me crazy and it's totally unnecessary and unsafe..move over please 🙏
Dear Sheriff Lamb, I sincerely admire you and the entire Sheriff's Office. I have been watching you for so long that I genuinely wish I could live there. Unfortunately, I am 10,000 kilometers away from Pinal County, far in Eastern Europe, in a small country called Montenegro. However, if I ever have the opportunity to visit, I would like to personally thank you because you, Frank, and the others are raising awareness all over the world. Best regards. Of course, I wish the new sheriff all the best, and I hope they will be worthy of that honor. ❤
I’m one of those people who’s diligent about passing left then moving right. THANK YOU for enforcing this. It’s also fantastic seeing the role of Sheriff being passed along in this way. Sheriff Lamb leaves some big boots to fill, but Sheriff Teeple is going to do great.
Arkansas has the same motor vehicle law. Lane 1 is for passing only. There are even signs every so often stating this, which sadly many drivers choose to ignore or likely never bothered to read the sign! It is also one of the questions on the license test!
Sheriff Lamb is the elected Sheriff, he’s not a Sgt, he ran for the Senate but lost the primary to Kari Lake, i believe he’s going to move onto something in the private sector but not sure what, either way I wish him well on his next adventure
49 states have some form. North Dakota being the exception. California is you CAN drive in the left lane as a lane, provided you're driving "to the speed limit". Aka it's 65 - you DO 65 (at least). Arizona is pass only...
On every driving test I've seen it always says that lane is for faster traffic only...and 99%of the time in every chase/high speed response from an officer video their camera is on and could very easily send the person who owns the vehicle a ticket...
Unfortunately Ohio does not have that rule, here it is just considered a lane and it is respectful to move out of that lane for law enforcement but a lot of people don’t do they have to cut through cars. Ohio needs to implement it though
Thank you Sheriff Lamb for your hard work and putting yourself on the frontline every day. Especially with the left lane campers going to miss you and really cool to see how you and the new sheriff do ride alongs good luck to you!
Common sense rules for the left lane: 1. You should be in the right lane for normal driving. 2. You should move to the left lane to pass. 3. You can stay in the left lane as long as one of the following is true: 1) You are actively passing another vehicle to your right. 2) You are keeping up with another vehicle in the left lane that is in front of you, or 3) There is an upcoming left-hand exit or turn that you must take. 4. If none of those things in rule #3 are true, you need to move to the right lane. 5. These rules do not apply on surface streets, including divided streets like boulevards, low-speed streets, or streets with frequent traffic lights. In general, it applies to multi-lane, divided, controlled access highways and most non-controlled-access highways where the speed limit is highway speed. Different states may have laws that word this a bit different, and may have some specifics to their state. But if you follow these common sense rules, no one will be upset with you regardless of state.
Awesome job, lots of people don't realize it but pretty much almost ALL the US States have this law but some do not enforce it often but it is law. We even have that law here in Kansas.
Do we get one more ride with Frank before he Sherriff Lamb leaves?? 😢 That was his idea originally and 100% has helped put Pinal Co. in an even more positive light! Thanks for everything Sherriff Lamb!! I dont even live in AZ and I'm already bummed.
Their [lack of] logic goes: "IF it is only for passing, and IF I'm going the speed limit, then it would be illegal to pass me!".... not realizing just BEING in the lane when not actively passing makes THEM equal to any speeders they think they're better than.
In Texas state law says that you can drive in the left lane but if someone signals you that they want to pass you are required to move right as soon as it is safe, you can't accelerate until the person has passed, and then you can move left again. I hate left lane campers, they really clog up traffic. They don't write nearly enough tickets for that violation. In California they write those tickets, I had a CHP officer tell me that when he stops someone they will say "I'm driving the speed limit so they shouldn't need to pass" and he tells them that if the state wanted them to control traffic they would give them a car with a white driver's door.
Good luck Sheriff Lamb in your new pursuits. You WILL be missed and you’ll be a valuable asset wherever you go. I knew about not driving in the left lane prior to the 90’s and, believe it or not, California has the same law but it’s not enforced. Heck, they have a hard enough time enforcing the carpool lane laws. I certainly hope Frank continues his UA-cam channel. Y’all take care now and be safe.
I appreciate that you guys are enforcing this, here our sheriffs office are too busy responding to actual calls to even attempt to run traffic patrols, and our highway patrol is too busy responding to crashes because people don’t know how to drive correctly to enforce anything… the problem just gets worse and worse in southwest Montana because we’re stuck in this loop, bad drivers get worse because there’s no enforcement than they crash which make even less enforcement and so on and so forth
The end of an era and the start of a new one. And both of these guys prefer to give warnings over tickets. Well Sherriff Lamb, it would be great to see you here in TX. All the best to both of you and of course Deputy Frank!
I-80 in Wyoming eighteen wheelers climbing grades side by side sometimes for ten miles going as slow as 45 m.p.h.. Busiest interstate in the country and there's a traffic pile up behind them for a mile waiting for the truck in the left lane to move over. Probably on their CB's talking about how cute they are.
A lot of company trucks have governors on them, which limits the top speed. (Which also ruins momentum on the downhill.) A lot of trucks simply don't have the power to run full speed uphill and so the truckers try to out run each other on the hills going 45 or whatever they're doing. In the industry, it's called the five mile race because you're literally driving about that long to pass another truck. The problem is that neither driver wants to give up and lose their momentum, so that is the result. Back in the day, I drove a truck that I would go 10-15 mph over the limit on the downhill and despite the speed, I would end up doing 10 mph under the speed limit on the ensuing uphill, simply because the truck just didn't have the power with the load.
@@danr4316 I understand what you are saying. I drove Greyhound buses across Wyoming for many years. Most of the truckers (and bus drivers) get it that you don't begin passing another truck at the base of a long steep grade. Buses didn't climb grades like cars but they also didn't climb like an 80,000 pound fully loaded truck. When I had trucks try to pass me on long grades, I would just slow down and let them get around me.
Really appreciate how friendly and kind Sheriff Teeple was on each stop as he informed the drivers of the law. Please know that this Ohio Buckeye will be praying for the new Sheriff Teeple and Sheriff Lamb in all that you do! God Bless you both!
I drove the left lane on Interstate 8 when entering Arizona from Cali because of all the rough pavement in the right lane but moved over when cars rolled up on me. You have some really smooth highways and some really good drivers.

What also needs to be stated is when and where the left lane is a passing lane. Some think it also includes surface streets.... I used to live in AZ... Born there. But lived in California for most of my life, and learned there about the left lane. Now I live in Alabama and even though from Texas to Florida this is the law, it isn't enforced and it's infuriating.
I'm in Florida and we have that law also. I used to flick my brights but there's too much animosity out there these days. I thought about flinging a magnet at their car that said, LEFT LANE FOR PASSING ONLY! But was advised not to throw things at cars. 😊
Sheriff Lamb and his team is so good that it almost made me move from Texas just to be close to one of the best police deparments in the US. What is Sheriff Lamb doing after this? Senator? Stay safe!!!
I recently drove through I-10 in Arizona on my way to Texas from LA and back, and this is the first thing I kept in mind while driving in your state. Most people in California hog the left lane on rural highways, and this concept of driving is much more organized and more effective getting ahead without having to make unsafe maneuvers. I applaud the Pinal County Sheriff for enforcing the law.
I'm just surprised that the amount of people that doesn't know about the left lane is for passing when driving on the interstate.. Even with many many signs saying "LEFT LANE FOR PASSING ONLY".. good job sheriffs!
As an occasional visitor to the US from a Right hand drive country and having driven in AZ I made sure I was up with the local No No's, Its not difficult as we have a keep left unless overtaking (Our passing lane is on the right) rule at speeds at or above 80Kph or 50 Miles an hour which is an Aus wide rule so I simply applied that rule to my US driving to keep my interaction with State Troopers and local LEO's to a minimum :-)
I live in Nevada and go to Arizona often and I know there laws, I just wish other states would have the same law it would make driving safer. Hope to see you around someplace else Sheriff Lamb you will be missed. And Merry Christmas
I WISH our PD would do something with our traffic. I see headlights out; camping in left lane; tags over a year expired on daily basis. I pay mine on meager income. We just got updated license plates so that cops can have equipment automatically read the plates. I admit that I have out 1 tag light but to change in Toyota Camry is to tear apart the trunk and cracked windshield. Disabled single mom and it’s on the list but no budget. Just a crack nothing shattered. I always move over for emergency vehicles because I have had 3 rides in them myself and my dad; when it’s their or my life on the line I want as fast response as possible. I also move over for disabled vehicles with flashers on and also tow trucks.
These drivers know, they just dont't care. If it wasn't a cop pulling them over their response would be... "I'm going the speed limit, so it I don't have to move." Thank you for enforcing this very common sense law. best wishes in all of your future plans Sheriff Lamb and welcome aboard Sheriff Teeple,,,, I look forward to your future ride alongs with Frank.
I've been driving for 40 years and sort of assumed that law was on the books in every state. For instance, here in Ohio it's illegal (and been that way for a long time) to drive in the passing lane (left lane) if you are not passing other vehicles or preparing to turn left. Ohio Revised Code (ORC) Section 4511.25 requires vehicles to keep to the right side of the road unless overtaking and passing another vehicle, avoiding an obstruction, or preparing to turn left.
One day I was so grateful I didn't get hit with a ticket when I was trying to get over but a couple semi's in the right hand lane were there I couldn't move over and the deputy Sheriff who was behind me knew I was stuck, it was two lanes I was trying to get over. He let me speed up to move over and he went on his way.
"I prefer my traffic stops to be informative not punitive" Great attitude. No cop Ive ever been stopped by had that mindset, but I 100% agree with it. We need more cops like them that actually care about the public instead of their ego and authority.
As a trucker for decades the worst camping states by far are Tennessee & Georgia. I have to either risk a #1 lane violation or pass in #3 lane. Were not talking about speed abiders. These are fools riding next to my semi door or in front doing well under the posted speed. Speed kills is not actually as deadly as slow vehicles, tailgaters, door riders, or slow mergers onto a highway or interstate... Stay right stay alive!! In the left pick it up a step!!
For anyone that drives up and down interstate 5 , from Los Angeles to San Francisco, same rules apply. I see a lot of “campers” on interstate 5 driving slower than the 18 wheeler on the right and refuse to move over. CHP has light up signs that read “ slow traffic keep right “ but drivers ignore it.
Are there signs posted anywhere along the route? Just wondering. I've never been to AZ. Thankfully when my boys were learning to drive their stepfather, a former trucker, taught them that rule. Thank you for the informative post sheriffs! Happy Holidays and be safe out there! Thank you for your service.
Yes.... There are big signs like 5ft x 4ft size (rough guess) that state it. Along with the electronic signs as well.... I haven't been on an interstate in AZ that didn't have them.....
@rondameier8168 Thank you for your very nice reply. I was wincing and hunching my shoulders when I saw that I had a reply! Relief! I just drove back from Chico today to Oroville and there was a young driver speeding up in the left lane behind me so I moved over after I passed the other vehicle. The driver continued to crowd the next vehicle and suddenly passed on the right and dove back into the left lane and repeated this action several times. I lost track of him and prayed he wouldn't take anyone out with him should he have an incident. Again, thank you for your polite reply and have a safe holiday season!
@patriciasmith2827 I know comments can be ridiculous at times... You are very welcome.... I'm a former Californian as well.... Used to camp up in that area many many years ago, lived in the Pittsburg area, out by Tracy and the south bay in Santa Clara... And I'm glad I moved before the police stopped enforcing the law.... Happily live in the south for the past 5 years now, and absolutely love it. But left lane campers are bad in this entire region, yet from Texas to Florida we have left lane laws. Just wish they'd start enforcing it. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as well!!
PLEASE come up to Yavapai county as 90% of the slow drivers are permanently in the left lane and I think females believe it is the only lane on the road.
Shame you two can’t do a whole lot more videos since Sheriff Lamb is leaving. Sheriff Teeple you were awesome. Being from California and grabbing a Californian, they all park in the left lane!!!! Thank you for delayed remote justice issued!!! A lesson learned for the drivers!
last time I was in California the right lane on I-5 was so rough everybody was driving the left lane and passing on the right, where did all that tax money go Gavin?
Please come to California with a fresh new ticket book. Just a frustrating and dangerous are the drivers who stop/block traffic to let someone in. Also, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Prior to traveling through other states it's important to know their laws, whether they be traffic, drug or gun laws. Be informed and keep yourself and others safe.
Love how you just let them all go, they'll be right back in that 1st lane tomorrow lol why would they stop doing it if its just a warning yet against the law?
In Virginia, I have witnessed many times people camping in the left lane while driving under one of those big message boards that states "left lane is for passing only".

Common sense rules for the left lane:

I applaud the Pinal County Sheriff for enforcing the law.
Welcome aboard Sheriff Teeple!
Not going to lie, here in North Carolina we just call that fast lane. If the speed limit is 65, you better be doing 75 in that fast lane.
California, too. It’s never fast enough, though
The news needs to run this video as a public service!! 95% of drivers in AZ don't have a clue!!! Great video, but it's sooooooo frustrating!!!
Thank you Sheriff Lamb for passing along this law!!
"I prefer my traffic stops to be informative not punitive" Great attitude. No cop Ive ever been stopped by had that mindset, but I 100% agree with it. We need more cops like them that actually care about the public instead of their ego and authority.
It's a law in Virginia but they don't enforce it. I wish they would because there's always two cars side by side and neither will get out of the way.
Another cool Sheriff in Pinal county! Thanks for keeping Fridays With Frank!!!
Going to miss you Sheriff Lamb.....good luck in next venture!!
Welcome Sheriff Teeple......
Blessings to Sheriff Lamb on his new adventures.
You will be missed.
Welcome to the new Sheriff,
Sending prayers for your safety from East TN.🙏🏼
People absolutely have tunnel vision driving. If people would pay attention to their surroundings, we’d have a lot less problems on the road.
I wish they would enforce this where I live. I hate people who won't move over and camp in the left lane going slow. DRIVES ME INSANE!!
We are going to miss you so much! Although I think the new guy is going to be a great fit!
I can't stand it!
I see it every day.
This causes accidents, bc ppl are on their phone...or never look in their Rear view mirror 🤦♀️
FYI, that's the law in texas as well. they DO give tickets.
It should be a nationwide statute. It is in most states
Great info, mercial .Thanks for sharing! 😊
I wish they'd make enforcement nationwide. I absolute hate having to pass on the right.
