An earlier discussion of the Yugoloth towers actually had three towers being worked on, theoretically to give the Yugoloths greater power in the Lower Planes. Hades' and Gehenna's towers were completed. The trouble they had was that the Demodands would constantly attack the one planned in Carceri, such that the full plan was endlessly delayed.
Im running a homebrew that is carrying out a mission for the devils in the bloodwar. And this has helped me really flesh out how bleak the world is around them. Thanks for doing what u do!
I really do enjoy how much clarification you've brought to the planes. Now I wish you could somehow break down the map of Faerun. Because that's just as crowded and convoluted as all the planes together.
My next Forgotten Realms videos (after the outer planes finishes) will be on the region of Amn, hopefully I can break apart Faerun to make it a bit more understandable :)
Another reason for the Yuggoloth to migrate to Ghenna is to ensure that they cannot be truly destroyed if killed in their holdfasts and sanctuaries there. They will reform in Hades, migrate back to Ghenna, and bolster their defences, or simply rebuild.
Thank you for your great videos; I've enjoyed them all since you began. Gehenna is one of my favorite places to take my players. If ever you make another video about it, make sure to include Nimicri, the mimic-moon-city.

Not sure if they grow up. I couldn't find anything (doesn't mean it's not out there) but I think the larva are a reflection of the overwhelming despair of Hades. These sad helpless worm like creatures wiggling in the Gray Waste....

They can become lower devils or demons, or they are stuck as larva. Larva are used as spell components or eaten as food by more powerful creatures. Night Hags are particularly known to trade in larva.
Hey Jorphdan (the ph is silent), been loving your lore videos - it's really been great for things I hadn't previously consider for my campaign so I thank you! I'd love it if you also added the names of new places / monsters on screen as you introduce them - would really make searching for them a lot easier! Just a thought :)
I add subtitles so feel free to watch with those on and you can find out how stuff is spelled. Buy yes good point I'll try to do that more in the future. 😁
I like the creativity they put into Hades, but I think Hades pulled directly from Greek myth gets a bad wrap. Greek Hades was not only where bad people went but, also where heroes went.
The 3.5 book Manual of the Planes (page 114) has a brief description of the Tower Arcane. www.drivethrurpg.com/product/25109/Manual-of-the-Planes-3e?term=manual+of+the+planes&test_epoch=0&it=1&affiliate_id=728035
I am worried with the forgotten realms lore, I don't think it can survive on adventures alone. The books brought character to it, with adventures it feels like dry facts.
Succubus were originally thought to be demons from the Abyss. But later thinking (i.e. 5th edition) says they are devils from the Nine Hells. In short they are fiends and apparently found all across the lower planes.
Mythologically, Hades was very different... simply the afterlife, with a good area, bad area, and blah area for the mediocre. It was the only infinite and eternal plane, and Hades was a god of grim justice, punishing the wicked and rewarding the righteous (a Hoar like character). He was the introverted wanderer and watcher, not evil, but noted for being fair if hard.
The god Hades exists in D&D. He lives in Pluton, the third gloom, and is otherwise true to his mythological self. The catch is that Charon isn't Hades's servant but an altraloth and the Boatman of the Styx.
How did "Asmodeus hurl the Abyss into the elemental chaos" if the planes exist via the "tree cosmology". All the upper plains are reached by the astral and all the lower plains are in the elemental chaos already?? So how does the Abyss get "hurled" to somewhere it already is.......?????? I can picture it with the great wheel cosmology, but am having trouble visualizing it when thinking about the "tree" cosmology.
They are part of the lower planes. The Nine Hells is a separate plane in the Great Wheel Cosmology. Gehenna, Hades, Carceri all separate the Nine Hells from the Abyss and are the locations the blood war is most active.
@@JorphdanI know that they are different planes but like is there really anything different between those 3 and the 9 layers of hell? Are they just like "knock offs" of hell per say
How does Asmodeus "hurl" the Abyss into the Elemental chaos? That's where it was formed in the first place...and a lot of his power is from a shard of the Abyss so it seems unlikely that he can use that against the Abyss itself, seems like D&D is suffering from the same decline in talent as Warhammer.

Just a minor correction here: The Blood War wasn't ended in 4e edition. Just got staled by a 100 years (it re-started in the final books of 4e).

A bit of knowledge: The name Gehenna comes from the Arabic word Jahaanam, meaning Hell.
Sekhubara are there any more connections to Arabic folklore ?
