I actually prefer the naked bike aspect of the R1200R! I also desire the ability to add the items that "I" want/need to perfect "my" version of this bike! Your bike is quite nicely built up to your desired effect! Very good.
That's a "serious" motorcycle...I have an old Airhead, I never rode an R1200R, I like Harleys, the feel, the look... but a BMW delivers on all levels...
if you rev it gently and tour at 4,000 rotations, all you need is to change fluids, set valve clearance, and replace the springs when they fatigue. dont rev too low. this engine needs 2,500 rotations to cease shaking. a harley shakes much more.
I have recently bought the same model as you but feel the stock screen is too low . I am thinking of buying the Z Technick screen and would be pleased to know if you could comment on the protection and the noise factors of this screen . Many thanks . Peter
Peter--I haven't had the bike for about four years but when I did, I ended up putting the stock sport screen on it the spring to increase wind flow and the ZT one on it the fall because I ride year 'round and it gave me a lot more weather protection. It was sort of a hassle since the swap took about half an hour and required taking the handlebars off, but it did work. To be honest, one of my very favorite things about the R1200RT I own now is the electric windshield. I can always tailor it to conditions.
@@DrSKMetz Hi Steven, that's a great video. Thank you very much for sharing. I have a 2012 R. I am not comfortable with driving over 80 Km/h. I bought long ago the BMW touring windshield, packed it with exactly the same stuff you did, but have not managed to match the comfort I used to have with the BMW GS Adventure. Hence I never drive longer than 2 hours. Could you tell me how tall you are and post a link of the aftermarket windshield you installed? Thank you very much in advance and best greetings.
@@oscarpow That is the after market one in the video. I put it on in autumn and switched back to the short "sport" screen that came with the bike during the winter. I traded the bike about six years ago though so don't remember much about it. I'm 5'9" so got the medium windshield. But now I ride an R1200RT so can just push a button and make the windshield go up and down. More at hexhead.blogspot.com/
@@DrSKMetz Congrats for your blog. Very fun to read. Can you tell more about the switch from the R to the RT? I figure that you are much more comfortable with driving those 16.000 miles a year with that bigger touring bike. Do you travel alone or with your wife/partner or other motorcycles? Regards
Wow! Very nice and informative video. Much better than a lot of the professional reviews.
Thank you for this piece of history, and sharing your passion!
Thanks for the vid Steve. Really useful, articulate and sane. Much appreciated from Australia.
this was a great history and thank you for sharing! I know it's an old vlog, but very helpful and informative! Hope you're still riding!
Excellent video sir. I watch it quite often since this is my dream bike. Please consider making another one.
Informative and articulate. Thanks very much
Very nicely done!
beautiful bird sounds, and beautiful review!
Super intro to the bike.
Nice discussion and video, thanks. Do you still have it? And if so, how’s it doing?

Great bike!
How tall are you? I need to know if this would work for a bigger guy, a little over 6'2" and overweight. Thanks

00:05 dude, realize that this is of a huge concern to all of us that can appreciate the boxer engine :D.. and those of us who cant afford one :D
HD and BMW went in totally opposite directions...but both continued to keep an air cooled twin as their flagship for 900 million years. viva la boxer!
Very nice review and beautiful bike... congratulations!
Very nice! Thank you.
Ich habe zwar nicht alles verstanden, aber es stimmt alles!
I have the same
Viele Grüße Hermann
hey doc, how's the wind protection on that thing with the aftermarket windshield? how's the highway riding?
It’s the Bavarian MOTOR Works….they produced airplane engines…..ENGINES. not aircraft.
