Occasionally Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her four city councilmen are harshly criticized during their regular meetings. While they may not like being called potted-plants for their lack of curiosity, dullards for their inattention to details, or being accused of conflicts of interests, to the best of our knowledge, they have never been physically threatened.
While they may not like taking the occasional insult, they have not faced what members of the Bakersfield City Council heard. During a recent meeting, they were subjected to a physical threat as seen in the video below.
The person making the comments, Ms. Riddhi Patel, was arrested for making threats of physical violence and is held on a $2 million bail. According to the Bakersfield Californian, Patel faces "16 felony counts - eight counts of threatening with intent to terrorize, and eight counts of threatening the seven City Council members and the mayor."
The comments were made in the context of the city's enhanced security measure recently implements at Bakersfield City Council meetings.
