In this video I go over a little update I did to the slayer max using a Newport motor mount with a 12v haswing Brushless motor along with a 12v 100ah mini lifepo4 battery.
Newport should just send me a NK 180 pro and I can document it with a video 🙂
Neat setup!
Thanks Aliex 😁 Its always a work in progress 😆
@@BassManStrikes you lucky you only have to rig one boat lol
I help rig the fishing buddies kayaks also 😁 so far, I have replicated this on a hobie pa12 and will probably do one for a Titan X 😁
Nice, clean, professional work.
Thanks!
I am planning on shorting it a bit more and using the Newport swing arm as well, if I can find one, or I will just have to make one :-)
@@BassManStrikes Nice idea.
@@BassManStrikes They sell them! You just have to call them and they will create a order on-demand for you since it's not listed online. I just bought two of them for my Newport NV- Series 55 LB trolling motor to use with this mount as well. I just have to see how to adapt the swing arm with the TM Control Box Cover and shaft.
Looks good!
Thanks 😁
Nice job
Thanks!
Here I am again... I got the motor out this weekend for a test run and everything worked well. My next step is to add a disconnect so I can have a master power on/off. I am looking at solid state relays but am not sure yet. It looks like they need a heat sink over 5 amps or so. I remembered you had a kill switch and thought I would see what you were using for a relay. I can't make out the branding on yours in the video. Can you tell me what it is and where you sourced it? Its a regular magnetic relay isn't it? Thanks! BTW - I got about 4.6 mph on a Titan 10.5 but only was able to pull about 520 watts or so. Its supposed to be a 600w motor - do you have any idea what yours is pulling? I feel like there may be some tweaking to do in the pot extension setup that may get me back to 600w. I don't have a baseline before I tore it apart and mounted it.
Just use a relay and a kill switch, the 100amp one on Amazon works great.
You can also get a magnetic kill switch for it, way better than the standard outboard motor ones.
@@BassManStrikes I figured out the relay you have and have it now. For what its worth - I threw it on the bench and tested it. The coil is 86.6 ohms resulting in a calculated and real draw of about 140 mA or about 1.5 w. Actually better than the listing specs. Thanks for your help.
I'm finally getting around to installing the haswing on the newport mount. Did you do anything to take up the slop between the shaft and hole it mounts in? I measured it and my newport shaft is about .050 larger than the haswing shaft. Cats and dogs, I know.
I used a piece of black gorilla duct tape :-) works perfectly
Doesn't the Newport take a 24v battery?
It's just the newport mount with a 12v brushless haswing motor.
I removed the head and shortened it and then ran the brushless esc potentiometer wires to a throttle, works awesome and wayyy less expensive.
Some folks asked about a dust cover for the panel mounted anderson connector and they do make them:

I was going to go NK180 for my Jackson Bite because wiring isn't my strong suit but I can't justify spending almost $1500 when I paid $900 for the kayak so I'm taking inspiration from you and rigging up a Haswing. What's the advantage to the NK180 mount over the DIY Minn Kota with this motor?
it's stronger and looks a bit nicer but functionality wise the DIY minkota mount was fine and had a better quick release setup (DIY)
check out this group on facebook and ask questions about the haswing there, tons of great info from prior haswing builds folks have done:

What size drill bit to mount the magnetic kill switch? Curios if I have enough space in my current project box.
I used a step bit and drilled it out until it fit.
@@BassManStrikes … what size step bit? … I have one that goes to 3/4 inch
@@butchmiller3970 , I used a 1 1/8 but I went like half way. The 3/4 would probably work. When I got close I used the step bit by hand so as not to make the hole too big.
I can't find this mount on NP's website - only the more basic ones. Any ideas how to get it?

@@BassManStrikes Thanks - I just found it by doing a google search and thought I would come back here and put the link in. Maybe they'll figure out this internet thing someday.
@@BassManStrikes you've been answering a couple questions for me in the FB groups as well - most recently the hobbywing one... I am going to take your advice now that I have this mount and get the haswing. I actually came back to this video to see if the shaft fit was an issue but I can see you have it rigged just fine so I assume its a 1 1/8 shaft. I think I'm just going to drill new holes in the mount to fit the titan better but I like your idea of an aluminum plate as a backer to distribute the loads a little better. The guy who owned my Titan previously was a tournament pro and had a torqueedo on it so I imagine it would have broken a long time ago if it were going to. Any other advice or gotchas for this combo before I start? I feel like I want to rig a bungee setup for a reverse damper instead of using a line. The way I use the boat I will be in and out of reverse all the time but always at low power. Thanks again for your help.
What are you using to monitor the battery level?
Nothing right now, the 100ah lifep04 plus the efficient brushless is more than enough to tool around any lake or river around here 😁
@@BassManStrikes Your braver than me lol, I always end up having to monitor my power to make it back to the launch with just 5 to 10 amps left.
