Not every day we have such clear skies. The mountains that surround the city protect us, but they also do not allow good ventilation, for this reason, days like today are not many during the year, so I changed my route again and decided to visit San Cristóbal Hill, one of the best viewpoints to observe the city. To get to the top I took the fast and reliable cable car.
This video has several cuts in order not to make it endless and also manageable for me in post production.
About the channel...
in Motion is a channel that seeks to portray various corners of the city and its surroundings, where the streets and its architecture are the protagonists. The content of this space is inspired by various "Walking" channels around the world and the desire to leave a record so that my children can appreciate in the future how the city where they lived looked.
About my city...
Santiago also known as Santiago de Chile, is the capital and largest city of Chile as well as one of the largest cities in the Americas. It is the center of Chile's most densely populated region, the Santiago Metropolitan Region, whose total population is 8 million, of which more than 6 million live in the city's continuous urban area. The city is entirely in the country's central valley. Most of the city lies between 500-650 m (1,640-2,133 ft) above mean sea level.
About San Cristóbal Hill...
The San Cristóbal hill with an altitude of 880 m s. n. m. and a prominence of 280 m, it is the fourth highest point in the city, surpassed by the Manquehue hill, the Lo Aguirre hill and the Renca hill. The hill is located between the communes of Providencia and Recoleta, and has its feet to Barrio Bellavista.
The San Cristóbal hill is part of a set of mountains, together with the current Chacarillas hills, its sister hill; Los Gemelos and La Pirámide, which are part of the Santiago Metropolitan Park, the largest urban park in Chile and one of the largest in the world, with approximately 722 hectares of extension.
The original name of the hill was Tupahue (in Quechua: 'Sentinel') - currently, the hill located in the northern sector of the Santiago Metropolitan Park, between the Botanical Garden and Américo Vespucio Avenue, is known as Tupahue or Chacarillas. It was renamed in honor of Saint Christopher of Licia, patron saint of travellers, by the conqueror Pedro de Valdivia. The first written reference to its current name dates back to the 18th century, when the Governor of Chile, Manuel de Amat y Junyent, made a geographical description of the territory to King Carlos III. During the colonial era, various quarries operated on the southern slopes of the that stones were removed for the Bridge of Cal y Canto, the Palace of La Moneda and to pave the streets of Santiago.

The best is when you are in the middle of the cable car trip and a 5.5 tremors struck ….. the ride of your life ___ I know for sure as one of my friends was in it when an earthquake struck… he had a few Pico Sours previously …so he enjoyed the drama . …. Amazing clear views of Santiago and the Andes mountains Carlos ! Thank you very much ….. I was leaving Santiago on that day at 15: 00 hours. A flight from British Airways to London … the most amazing view of the Andes mountains I have ever had ! Memorable !

Thank you so much Ali for your kind words :D
Great video. I always enjoy watching your videos. I am planning a trip next January 2023. I sure hope things are better by then. I really like your videos but I have to make one request, could you please let us know where you are located during your walks? Maybe post a link to maps or park entrance. How would I get to this park entrance from Lastaria? Also could you do a walk through Lastaria? I'll be staying at Casa Bueras. Can I walk to San Cristobal from there or is it too far of a walk. Thank you for your vids and keep them coming. Me gusto mucho tus videos, muy informativos. Beautiful trees with their fall colors. Gracias Carlos.
Hey Claude! A lot of things, hehe... First, thank you very much for your comment, glad you liked it :) About your questions, I would say 90% of my walks have a route map in the video description. Check it out ;) Well, this specific walk hasn't a route map but I can tell you that I entered trough Pedro de Valdivia Norte access where the cable car is located, you can go there by subway, well you have to walk a few blocks, but walkable. So if you are thinking to go from Lastarria definitely you should take the metro until Pedro de Valdivia station and then walk to the north. From you hotel you can access to another entrance and I would say the classic one, where is located the Zoo and the funicular (which is not working right now due to some remodelation) but you can easily walk to that entrance (Pío Nono street) and then climb up the hill. But I would recommend you to visit Pedro de Valdivia Norte entrance, there are a lot of mini parks inside, the Japanese Garden, a swimming pool and the climb up probably is easier than the Pío Nono entrance.
My first walking video was in Lastarria :) but I didn't walk by the street of your hotel but I will comeback for sure. It's a really nice neighborhood. See you.
