NO! the Nobel _Peace_ Prize is a B.S. popularity award. Hitler and Stalin were both on the list for it. It has nothing to do with anyone who contributes to human knowledge or the solution to vexing problems.
Salman is such a funny guy. He appears a bit awkward, but he definitely has everything in control. He kind of reminds me of mr. Bean. Love you Sal in the most heterosexual way
One thing that wasn't mentioned: bright colours on a black background. This is almost never seen in textbooks. This is what provides a sense of relief when watching the videos - the brain appreciates a different learning environment. Thank you Sal
They hit on this and brushed past it several times without explicitly stating the issue of assumption of knowledge. Sal's math videos are so helpful because he often does little refreshers on previous math concepts while explaining a new one, or tells you what video to go watch if you forget a previous concept essential to understanding the one at hand. This is essential in all education: to remember the student may need an explanation of the smaller pieces the instructor is inclined to assume they already know.
I am looking forward to checking out this new series. Sal is great. He is such a master student. He really knows how to chunk down information into memorable bite sized pieces. It is part of what makes him a great teacher.
20:08 That slow and slightly unsteady zoom out, along with the way Sal is standing reminds me of a gang leader in a '70s kung fu movie confronting his opponent(s) in a duel. haha
Sal you're an inspiration, hopefully some day at the head of the department of education, to give up hedge fund work to set a global standard for education that is getting easier to access each day, is really impressive.
Sal, to hear people saying you suck ; those are impossibles. They don't know more but to simply be negative in life, that they're not worth entertaining, be it physically or psychologically. You rock, and forever will be (like the core of our earth) :D
This is a rich, worthwhile conversation worth watching for anyone interested. What emerges in the course of it are Sal's key qualities to good instructional videos: 1) Enthusiastic. 2) Conversational. 3) Substantive. 4) Simple. Excellent stuff.
Another great video. I think sal has taught my daughter most of what she knows about Science.. She zones out for anything else school wise but listens to his calming voice.
when I first heard his voice never thought he would be this nerdy, thought that he would be the typical tall big bossy indian guy,guy is a true epitome of nerd man, like the most perfect nerd ever.
KhanAcademy is a great website ,, But its courses are still elementary in Physics and all in the scientific Section ,, I'm looking forward to seeing some advanced courses with cooperation with MIT .
everyone should read "surely you are joking mr fineman" in which richard fineman describes how he has a persistent habit of making mental material examples of every bit of math he reasons about and attributes his mastery to that tendency.
Professor Mehran Sahami from Stanford University comes to my mind when you talk about the qualities of a great video. Professor Mehran brings humor and enthusiasm to his video's.
One idea about the tutorial being thought provoking: at the end of the video, challenge the student with a question that could be answered based only on the information provided on this tutorial. In the case of mathematics, could be some ideas to make a set of problems. Something that would prove they understood the video. I like this idea of making the videos short. If I do not understand, then I can watch it again. Thanks to all who are involved in this project.
internet before I went to watch them, he has always given me the answers. I always give him the credit and pass on a small piece of paper with the website to someone I see struggling in math. Khan Acadamy needs to contact him and include him somewhere in their website.
PatrickJMT com has honestly guided me through my math classes so far. Currently in differential equations, I find myself looking back through all the previous videos I've watched and repeating in my head what equation or step he is going to take next.I have never talked to Patrick J., nor do I even know what his last name, however... I have asked him thousands of math questions over the past few years. And regardless if the videos have been on the...
I was just wondering whether the Khan Academy videos would be the same without the voice of Sal Khan. He has this energetic and friendly voice which attracts students. I mean, you can make an instructional video with all the qualities that were written on the Board, but might fail if the speaker doesn't have the necessary voice quality.
If "the easiest person to fool is yourself", then the only measure of value is the successful understanding of the students of the concepts, even if they've learned more from the Socratic Method than you have.. (Enthusiasm for the topic is more effective than knowledge, or learning would never progress)
I think if kids knew some of those math questions regarding linear algebra were directly related to making video games, their little ears might perk up a bit. Even if they don't have any plans to be a programmer in the future.
Education students seem to be missing the point of Khan Academy. Khan always credits the listener intellectual curiousity. He never tries to talk students into learning material by making it superficially relavant. These student educators are just part of the problem
Nice to place a 'Face' with a name. Would I be remiss to comment that I NEVER pictured 'you' from your voice. Not a Bad thing... just... well, everyone says movie stars 'Looked Taller' on the screen... hmm... o-okay, I'll shut up now. Thanx for the videos!
Sal sucks... said no one ever. Sal should win a nobel peace prize for bringing peace to my mind.
Amen to that brother..
NO! the Nobel _Peace_ Prize is a B.S. popularity award. Hitler and Stalin were both on the list for it. It has nothing to do with anyone who contributes to human knowledge or the solution to vexing problems.

One man making profound impact in the world. Respect!
Salman is such a funny guy. He appears a bit awkward, but he definitely has everything in control. He kind of reminds me of mr. Bean. Love you Sal in the most heterosexual way
Toivo Meriläinen
Being awkward is definitely not a negative. Some at the top are really awkward, but are enlightening.
Intellect creates measured awkwardness
please no
One thing that wasn't mentioned: bright colours on a black background. This is almost never seen in textbooks. This is what provides a sense of relief when watching the videos - the brain appreciates a different learning environment. Thank you Sal
you guys are sick! lol
I totally agree with you
Man, such a sincere, down to earth genius.
It's fun. watching a genius. at work and learn at the same time!

Sal said "Y'all" = he's alright.
Sal you're an inspiration, hopefully some day at the head of the department of education, to give up hedge fund work to set a global standard for education that is getting easier to access each day, is really impressive.
Incredible stuff, continue your great work!

People say that Sal sucks?... Wow
@@pingukang Yep haters always exist
Love seeing this discussion......thanks to all involved.

Sal Thank You for your Amazing, Amazing, Creation!!!
Keep Up the Great Work!!!
nanozine
weird to see Sal actually talking

Yeah he's the nerd commander.

Don't stop taking selfies, they are so important to students.
43Degree pardon me?
43Degree It was a non-insulting statement. Don't be a douche.
Sure. Right. Such an angry comment and jealous of smart people. How revealing. Tsk Tsk Tsk. LOL.
Sal is so dynamic, he teaches with care, its so amazing, i want to study engineering.
I can go on hours listening to this guy
Sal for Nobel Peace Prize in the Field of Education!
AWESOME!!! Not an MIT alumni but always interested in learning.
I love SAL; thanks Sal

salman is doing a great job. great style and Technic of teaching. jazaakallah salman
god bless u and keep u and ur whole family healthy and happy. what u r trying to initiate is so important and yet cool..
12:25 i don't think Sal would have used bill cosby as an example today. :8
listening to this in 2020 and came here looking for this comment
Haha... I love that Sal recognizes, and of course he would, the seemingly small detail of the quality of chalk.
love it!!!
This is nice chalk- Salman Khan 2014
The "forcing a smile" recommendation, may be the best advice Sal ever gives!
KhanAcademy is a great website ,, But its courses are still elementary in Physics and all in the scientific Section ,,
I'm looking forward to seeing some advanced courses with cooperation with MIT .

It’s mostly for K-12. This is where we need more help on, but I understand.
There are other UA-cam channels for that though.
the idea of freeing education from its man made shackles is mindblowingly awesome
Love you Sal!
everyone should read "surely you are joking mr fineman" in which richard fineman describes how he has a persistent habit of making mental material examples of every bit of math he reasons about and attributes his mastery to that tendency.
Absolutely amazing
Thank you sal Khan and Khan akadamy serving the socity and your suppoter and welwishers
It's so weird seeing the face behind the voice. I love this man!
Professor Mehran Sahami from Stanford University comes to my mind when you talk about the qualities of a great video. Professor Mehran brings humor and enthusiasm to his video's.
in his way of speaking he just sounds like a genius , lol :D
22:28 PARALYSIS Vs free flow state of learning. So true, we need a balance corresponding to our personality to be maximally efficient!
Aww, we love you Sal
Onward,
Your biggest fan
At 16:24, Tyler DeWitt comments. Khan and DeWitt are two of the best at explaining concepts for Mathematics and Chemistry respectively.

Everybody loves R...Sal.
There should be a Khan Prize after his name. He is brilliant.
he's super amazing.
sal videos are amazing!
This video is too interesting!

13:57 hit it on the money ~ great point.
THIS IS GREAT!
Its on my recommendations!!
internet before I went to watch them, he has always given me the answers. I always give him the credit and pass on a small piece of paper with the website to someone I see struggling in math. Khan Acadamy needs to contact him and include him somewhere in their website.
^_^ LOL Khan is AWESOME!!!
finally get to put a face to his voice :)
This guy is awesome
Just a suggestion. We all learn different, knowing this have learning style oriented instructors. Example visual, literal etc.

Khan Academy for everyone.
sal khan ❤.
Was that Abe Davis who suggested the 2nd suggestion?
I'm a huge fan of Sal Khan. Very inspiring. @cookingcornnor
I love the point he made at 32:28
His mannerisms are so close to Elon Musks.
+lordkelvin1 Stutterings seems to be mutual to intelligent people. lol
I should stutter more
yeah l was literally thinking that throughout the whole video

240p??
How come the chalk is yellow but it looks white on the board? Is it just the camera or what?
If "the easiest person to fool is yourself", then the only measure of value is the successful understanding of the students of the concepts, even if they've learned more from the Socratic Method than you have..

niceeeeeeee
KHAAAAAAAAAAN!
aww the way he stutters is cute :D
Well, you can teach math but you can't teach charisma. I view many aspects of KA as revolutionary, by Khan's personality transforms the whole thing.
the guy who introduced sal looks like dustin hoffman
Not all textbooks take out suff people aren't sure of. My organic chem book does. Which i noticed because most textbooks as Khan says don't do that :(
I watch the videos I think that editing the ums and uhs in the videos would allow more content and understandability
at 3:46 "This is very nice..."
hahaha
I think if kids knew some of those math questions regarding linear algebra were directly related to making video games, their little ears might perk up a bit. Even if they don't have any plans to be a programmer in the future.
Meat= fit for use, useful, helpful, instrumental
Wow
It is a very nice chalk😂😂😂
I'm like 99% sure that Tyler Dewitt was in the audience
Education students seem to be missing the point of Khan Academy. Khan always credits the listener intellectual curiousity. He never tries to talk students into learning material by making it superficially relavant. These student educators are just part of the problem
KHAAAAAAAANNNNN!!!! lmao
Khan Academy for the big kids.
his voice tho :)
why not suggest other related experiments that school kids can do on their own?
Khan Academy for anyone.
Sal's the human shield for the Stanford jokers :-)
YES BILL COSBY!
That didn't age well... 😂
A brown man with a Louisiana accent, that's a welcome first. Well, the one that actually makes sense.
+Dan Heather bobby jindel.. a brown man who is the governor of Louisiana
