I disagree. We see this as a movie and therefore focus on the fact that Palpatine died in the end... He ruled for 13 years as chancellor and 22 as emperor. 35 in total. That is a success story, not a failure. Sidious basically became the nr 1 political ruler in the galaxy as soon as he became the sith master and killed Plagueis... But more than all the time he spent ruling, his biggest achievement was the complete eradication of the jedi order.

@wrought-ironheroEMIYA for sure. Honestly, even without Vader, I think Thrawn would have won out in the end. There was another fatal flaw: Dart Vader. Anakin did not become a Sith because he wanted power and glory, the usual motivations of a Sith. He didn't care about glory. Well he did want power. It was just present in Revenge of the Sith novelization. The various components of government are pitted against each other to keep them from uniting against the dictator.

Kreia/Traya... I love the old hag, but frankly, Kreia is a little to esoteric to rule the Galactic Empire directly. She would more likely place a puppet king, give some directions as to how she wants things to go and then focus on Force-aligned goals (i.e. converting Jedi, predicting the future, destroying the Force, etc.). Compare Kreia to the Bene Gesserit of Dune.
Darth Plagueis is a mixed bag. On one hand, he's clearly a very good banker, scientist and administrator. On the other, like Kreia he's way too focused on unlocking the mysteries of the Force.
Exar Kun... Let's be real, the guy was a major egomaniacal asshole. His Galactic Empire would be akin to the Chaos Cults of Warhammer 40k, a mix of Thousand Sons and Word Bearers, especially since he was trying to replicate the Old Sith Empire, which was a feudalist theocracy.

It's also a horrible incentive system because the master has no reason to teach his pupil everything, lest he become too powerful. Also, an impatient apprentice could kill the master before he learned everything. It's also very hard to work with someone who might kill you at any time. It's much simpler to work together and create a larger group. The Sith are nothing but cartoon characters.

That's why I would argue that a Galactic Empire ruled mainly by pre-Mustafar or AU-Unburned Darth Vader could have thrived. Mainly because Anakin wouldn't care about political intrigue and sycophants, and DEFINITELY wouldn't accept corruption. Pure militaristic meritocracy, no buying your rank.
Any Force-User order created by Anakin would demand strength and ruthlessness, but not necessarily infighting. Anakin's Sith Order would be full of people like Ahsoka, Malgus, Marr: action-takers who care about enforcing order and getting results, not mindless butchery and power-grabbing. And they would keep the Moffs and planetary governors in line via lightsaber. In fact, Anakin would probably implement Palpatine's idea of replacing Moffs and Imperial Personnel with Force Users MUCH sooner, leaving only competent people like Tarkin and Thrawn.

The Sith philosophy makes it impossible to build anything that matters. Given the assumption of the setting, it appears to work fine for conquering, but ruling and maintaining an empire require faith. Trust. Loyalty. The Sith's teachings are entirely antithetical to that.

The first error of Bane was the idea that killing others somehow makes you stronger. Your strength depend not on what you do with others but on what you do with yourself.
The first error of every "Sith Emperor" was the idea that this "seat of ultimate power over the galaxy" has something to offer to a Sith Lord. What can an entire galaxy worth of commoners offer to the one who has the Force itself at his beck and call? Vanity is weakness. This is not the Way of the Sith.

I don't understand why Vader didn't turn on Palpatine right away? He tells Anakin the 'Tragedy of Darth Plagieus the Wise' and how he had learned to cheat death and bring back the people he loved. He insinuated that he's been taught this power and already has it on LOCK-DOWN!!! Anakin fully just says "i will do anything you ask, just save Padme. I can't live without her" at which point PALPATINE CHANGES HIS DAMN STORY! He goes from "Only I can save her" and switches it up to "Cheat death is a power only one has achieved, but I know if WE work together, we can discover the secret!!"
This is the point where Anakin should have been like all "WHOA WHOA WHOA WHOA!!!! Lets just hold on here one gash-darn-second!!! Are you telling me you don't already know how to save her? Because a few minutes ago you were STRAIGHT UP TELLING ME YOU HAVE THE POWER TO SAVE PADME!!!! Are you now saying you don't already have this ability!?!? ARE YOU F-ING KIDDING ME!?!?!!!! I BETRAYED THE JEDI ORDER STRICTLY BASED ON YOUR PROMISE THAT YOU KNEW HOW TO CHEAT DEATH!!! You 100% claimed you knew how to do this!!! WHAT IN THE EVER-LASTING F ARE YOU SAYING RIGHT NOW!? Because if you don't already know how to save her, if you killed your master BEFORE he taught you this Darkside ability YOU AND I HAVE A SERIOUS F-ING PROBLEM RIGHT NOW SHEEV!!! Did you straight up lie to me!!??!! (Anakin's light saber ignites with bright blue light.)

I just don't think Sidious CARED enough to fix the flaws of his empire.... All he cared about was achieving the goal of Establishing the Empire in the first place, and his only other goal was to secure the most powerful apprentice he could to replace him... He always suspected Vader's motivations were not where he desired them to be, and he jumped at the chance of corrupting Luke because of this. In the end, Sidious couldn't be bothered to devote effort into making the Empire more efficient, as he was more focused on his goals as a Sith than as Emperor

I think Vader gets a bad wrap here. He was probably only killing offers who were continuously failing to meet their KPIs, and even then only after multiple coaching conversations and a performance improvement plan. I'm sure that when it got to that point Vader wanted to simply terminate employment & part ways. However, after confirming with HR & Legal, Sidious made it clear to Vader that terminating their lives significantly reduced the risk of officers violating their NDAs.

Nothing or anyone is perfect, including Palpatine. Deep to his core he was Psychotic, 100% incapable of true trust or true unity with his peers or subordinates, he ruled by fear not merelyby choice, but because he was incapable of trust and sharing knowledge and power with his most worthy. (Even Vader got scraps). So it was inevitable he would fatally try to run his Empire under the same circumstances, and just like Dictatorships in the real World, doomed to fail from within.

Thrawn hated the dark side of the Force and was somewhat mindful of the whole, he would have done his best build a more dark gray force wielder army simalier to the knights of zakuul. The nightsister were more of dark gray Jedi cult rather then a full on Sith Order which one the reason why Jedi mostly left them alone while easier for him to work with and reason. In legends Joruus C’baoth was a Dark Jedi but Thrawn after first tried, but failed, to guild him a way from that level of evil by reason if he did get the chance to clone him he would have done pulled it off but he might only stick with one of them for he might be bad idea to clone too many of the same Force user at one time

Palpatine should have stayed with ruling from the shadows. Tarkin was too arrogant, blowing up the rich. Sends the message that everyone is ducked. What he should have done was place Leia and co on a very public trail. Been as legally fair as beyond reasonable possible. Then with the evidence which Leia would have been foolish enough to admit too. Because let's face it she was a hot head. Condemn her and Bail ect to death. In fighting doesn't help with long term ruling. It's stupid. You want competent paper pushers. Competent workers. Competent cops, Captains, everything else. Grand Admiral Thrawn was the only Admiral worth the name.

Yeah I agree 100% with this analysis. The fatal flaw goes all the way back 1000+ years of Sith rules Master and Apprentice. There was no unity and team work , just backstabbing and the strongest survives. Can you imagine if this was implemented in today’s politics? lol That wouldn’t last long. Anyways the logic of the Siths ideals is flawed. I think the ancient Ja’Dai had the best concept on how to deal with the force mastering in balancing between the dark and light. They didn’t shun emotions and attachments like the Jedi and didn’t let the dark side consume them similarly to Count Dooku. Basically they mastered not being consumed by either side of the force and did what the will of the force ask. Qui Gon would have excelled in their time period as well.

Anakin is a massive issue himself to be honest, in the real world people learn from their mistakes and gain experience and knowledge in how to deal with subsequent problems when they arise. By killing officers for mistakes as regularly as he does all he's doing is slowly diminishing their pool of talent as they have to keep promoting less and less experienced personnel.
