On the meshnet tab you need to be able to see your devices (on your host/server) onece there clic kthe 3 points next to it to manage the device and activate traffic routing and access your local network options, head to your client and go to the meshnet tab and scroll down til you see traffic routing and click on there to connect and it might work now
The main two advantages of Jellyfin instead of mapping a network drive via SMB are the ability to organize your library and the transcoding ability. While the first is pretty self-explanatory the transcoding is not so much. Imagine you have a video that uses an exotic codec - you won't be able to just play it on all machines right out-of-the-box. Jellyfin in such cases will transcode the video and/or audio stream(s) to a format that's understood by other devices, without the need for additional software. On top of that, it comes with a robust web UI, which comes in handy for things like user access control or personalization.
Thanks for this. I hated JellyFin. It ran rampant creating loads of jpg files on my NAS box which already had the jpgs for my videos. I already have a QNAP media server running and use VLC as my client. Any chance of a video setting up Meshnet with these?
Hello! Currently there is no out-of-the-box support for QNAP for Meshnet, however, there are some community-based solutions based around Docker containers. As for accessing anything with VLC via Meshnet, you can check out the security camera article/video, as we cover accessing VLC streams through Meshnet in them. Here is a link to the documentation: meshnet.nordvpn.com/how-to/remote-access/phone-security-camera#inlineextension-windows-macos-and-linux
The reverse proxy setup isn't required to access your Jellyfin Media server. If you don't set up your reverse proxy, you can just add :8096 at the end of your server's Nord name. Let me know if you have more questions! :)
@@Nordvpn I appreciate it, but Tailscale was quite a bit easier to setup and understand. Does the same thing as a standalone app rather than being an add on feature of another product. Not to say I don't like some of your apps (I use Nordpass) but your VPN and meshnet is pretty rough.
Hi there! Both Meshnet and most of the dynamic DNS services are free. As for the time it takes to set up a dynamic DNS, reverse proxy, and forward ports versus setting up Meshnet - that's a strong no. Not only does it take more time, it also requires a lot more understanding than setting up Meshnet.
@@Nordvpn Ah ok, Perhaps I have misunderstood your vid, I thought meshnet was a feature within NordVPN and I did'nt realise NordVPN was free with that feature, so thks for for the heads up.
This video is terrible. You should have made two video, one for Linux and one for Windows…. I did the meshnet on windows and it doesn’t pick up on external devices.
If we understand correctly, you're having an issue with accessing your Jellyfin server, correct? If that's the case please let us know what address you're using to access the server with?
What would you stream on your server? 🤓

I'm on Windows and the rest of the tutorial is on Linux so what should I do now?
Yeah, wtf lol
I have been using meshnet with windows smb for more than a year now. What are the advantages of using Jellyfin over just a classical SMB?

@@Nordvpn thank you! Will check it out.
How is it supported on roku if it can't install nordvpn?
Yeah, I’m confused too.
.... Jellyfish is what goes on roku, the media server software / app similar to plex.
@@JoshuaDay0550 and the jellyfin wont work without meshnet or any vpn service, which Roku doesn't allow.

Do friends or family also need NordVPN to connect to the mesh net?
they need your nordacount details.
Yes, both the client devices and server have to be connected via Meshnet
Does my pc have to be always on if i want to watch it from my smartphone?
....Yes....
How can I sub to his personal channel? I'd like to see more tutorials by him. And cut the music will ya?
Hey, thank you for your feedback! At the moment, you may find more of his other videos on our channel. -N.L.
Wait how do i set a custom name address for windows?
You can skip that part entirely on Windows. Just be sure to add :8096 at the end of your server's Meshnet IP address or Nord name. -A.F.

Will be much quicker and cheaper to use a free no-ip or similar ddns address surely ?.

It works!!
Happy to hear that!
would have been nice to see this for windows.
