you like the bass in this song, try schism, opening bass line is fuckin awesome
i love bass! so awesome!
If you love bass check out red hot chili peppers either their older song "higher ground" or their new one "dark necessities." the bassists name is flea and just like his nane he jumps all around the stage to bring hype to the music the band plays
This song was very relevant to me when I had a heroin addiction.
I managed to get clean, only because my family never gave up trying to help me, even when I was lying to them, stealing from them and manipulating them into giving me money.
After I got clean, I made a point of paying back every penny I took.....I ended up paying my parents back over £20k, over an 8 year period.
Idk you but im very proud of you man, im 17 and have grown up with addiction running ruthlessly through my family and i understand very much how hard it is to sober up and I understand the demons addicts face and its horrible. My dads facing addiction currently and i always do my best to support him and love him even though sometimes it can be hard but he needs my support and help. Very proud of you for overcoming one of the toughest challenges of life, addiction.
I hope to do that too someday, good on u!
Everytime I see comments like this I wanna say something but never have the words for it. You are amazing and don't let anybody tell you otherwise. 😎
you should try Lateralus by tool..and research it cause its written based on the Fibonacci sequence ie the golden ratio :) oh yeah just stumbled across your page and diggin it
thanks for the comments and the kind words! i hope you consider subscribing. i appreciate the love and support my man! i will definitely check out lateralus!
i sure did :) keep it up \m/
was going to also suggest this tool and a perfect circle are my all time favs and always love seeing peoples reaction to them that is a must alex !
you...you have excellent taste ;)
No it is not written based on the Fibonacci sequence Maynard added it to it after the song was basically written. Also Tool songs don't need a gimmick to get interested in them just hear them for what they are.
Adam jones the guitarist of Tool does all the animations for the videos.
Spencer Brase fun fact - Adam Jones was one of the artists that helped design the original Jurassic park
Terminator 2 also
Seriously? I actually didn't know that. That guy is so talented.
He also seems to be rrrrrrrrrreal fuckin high on drugs
Nice reference go Third Eye/Bill hicks :D
Dude a lot of Tools videos are stop motion. The dude who plays the guitar makes them
he is extremely talented and creative
Before he was part of Tool full time, he was an animator. He worked on Jurassic Park, actually
His name is also Adam Jones, if you check his IMDb, he also worked on a few Predator movies, a few Terminator movies, as well as a few cinematic classics, like: Edward Scissorhands, Dances with Wolves, Ghostbusters, Pet Semetary, and Batman Returns!
@@AnonDrewT I never knew that and it gave me a newfound appreciation for Tool. These videos creeped me out as a kid but I've grown to love them in my 20s.
@@SpudEater They had the intended effect then
i love this song! Been a HUGE fan of Tool for 20 years. When I started playing drums about 19 years ago, I was OBSESSED with figuring out how to play this song. The verse beat has a complex pattern of the hihat vs the bass and snare beat. Took me months to be able to play as a beginner. It's easy now but back then, it was quite the accomplishment.
Tool's bassit Justin Chancellor is my god. That guy wrote some of the most iconic metal bass riffs
Justin Chancellor is INDEED a badass, but he didn’t play on this album (Undertow). The bassist on this album is Paul D’Amour.
MAD respect! You've been showing LOTS of love to Generation X these last few days! We had a lot of artsy stuff on MTV back in the 90s. Sober was one of the tracks I played often while on the air at my college station at SHSU!
that is crazy man! so this must have brought back lots of memories for you!?
Alex Hefner oh heck yeah. At the time it was Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Candlebox.... and I would play all of them on 90.5 KSHU I got plenty of cassettes of me talking on the air
RoySFord Sam Houston???
Anthony Jesel Yes... I went to Sam Houston State... was on the air there at 90.5 KSHU
Aaaaaaaaand now I feel super old.
Tool is one of the best bands musically and lyrically you'll come across just incredible what they create
React to Tool - Schism.
this song won a grammy in 2002, I say it like a curiosity.
A hug from Argentina Alex
a bigger hug right back from Houston, TX
A perfect circle - outsider
The bass in all Tool songs is wicked AF!!! Tool's lyrics are very eclectic, deep, and thought -provoking...cant wait for their new album to finally drop...hopefully this year!
If you're a fan of good bass, then Primus is right up your alley.
But if you're a fan of good singing, then they aren't.
Seriously, Les Claypool is an amazing bassist, but his voice sounds like a cat being strangled.
Singing is not their strength though
SithCats I mean, to be fair Bob Dylan isn’t really a good singer but that doesn’t mean people don’t enjoy it. Claypools voice is perfect for Primus
Edit: I love Bob Dylans voice btw, not trying to criticize him
True but Primus lol. My name is mud.
Mud is my name
To me this song seems like a inner dialogue in an addicts mind. Going back and forth between attempting to rationalize his self-soothing behavior and the wish to break free of his predicament as he is aware of the damage it does to him and others. 'I will only complicate you. Trust in me and fall as well'.
Most widely played from them. It's good and probably the best place to start but exploring tool takes time and dedication. They are a vast ocean of lyrical and instrumental greatness.
Tool remains one of my favorite bands since HS... I miss the 90's... I hear a lot of people talk about their instrumentation but rarely does anyone mention the fact that a lot of their songs just have bananas time signatures... love that you mentioned the bass, as a bass player myself it makes me happy to see a bassist get some love... their bass lines are crazy, lots of drop tuning, dyads, triads and bass chords too... check out Schism, bass is awesome in that
If you really dig the bass in this song you have to check out The Pot by them, it's hard not to bob your head or tap your foot to that infectious groove
Sworned schism is a good one for bass as well.
Kevin Hill Yea it’s great too
i really loved the bass!
Sworned did you just tell him to check out Infectious Grooves? That was/is one helluva band! Well, the way my man here bobs his head off beat, not sure he could handle it, he might injure his critically caucasian neck...
Or 46 and 2
Automatically clicked this video. ♡ this song. Message is so deep it really makes you think.
Being in the elated state of mind when not sober kinda makes you wanna keep that feeling when you are.
But then again who wants to be blitzed all the time?
One of my favorite songs though.
you are such an amazing Hefnerd!
I love the fact you are expanding your horizons and getting into all these great bands. i'm surprised you haven't touched on nine inch nails. I would recommend closer, hand the feeds, head like a hole, or march of the pigs. I myself grew up on all this great music. I have so many recommendations and so little time. keep up the great work!
@alexhefner I have really enjoyed your videos. I randomly stumbled upon one and ended up watching you all morning. Not only do you have a dope selection of songs but your comments make me feel like I am listening to music with a friend. Plus, your FIRST TIME videos are adorable. It is so cool to watch someone who is not a metal head make open minded comments,we don't get much tolerance for our music genre. SUBSCRIBED
thank you! tool is always great.
TOOL THE GRUDGE
YES THE GRUDGE!
Before last night I only watched one reaction channel on the regular...you've got a new sub here my man. I'm a huge hip hop and metal fan, well, music in general, but few things are as enjoyable as watching someone react to music I've been loving for years and remembering what it was like to hear it first myself. Also, you're funny dude. Great content!
Just wanna say... i know you like hip hop and you've been watching metal.....i love all music .......hip hop included .... i LOVE that you are open to the different styles of metal and music .... and that you are actually giving it a REAL LISTEN ..... and being truly objective! Tool is my favorite band .... and the fact that you gave a real chance is DOPE BRO!
Tool have a great bass line in every song , all this (original) videos are done by Adam Jones their guitar player .
Please react to "Vicarious" by them and check out some Gojira songs like "Flying Whales"
i love amazing bass lines!
The song that got me into hard rock and metal, nice!
I'm commenting before I even watch the video but FUuuuu YES. I've been watching your videos and I was thinking it would be dope if you reacted to Tool. Excited for this!!
Tool is an amazing band and they really took metal in a unique direction. There's no other band, other than A Perfect Circle which has members of Tool in it, that sounds like them.
"Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm of the War Drums" from A Perfect Circle...same singer Maynard James Keenan
If you like claymation stuff you should check out Static-X and some of their earlier music videos.
Yeah! lml
Push it is the song your after
Honestly anything off Wisconsin Death Trip is worth listening to
Jerry Francis Jr. I thought the Push it video had a very strong Tool influence, as i go into a Back from 92 from the first ep and in between sips of coke reference
I absolutely love how you brake some of the lyrics down thank you for bringing your view to metal man awesome!
You gotta listen to more Tool! One of the greatest bands of all time, with every member being a leader in their respective fields of music. Danny Carey, the drummer, is a mathematical genius when it comes to his drumming, and he is by far my favorite drummer.
i can tell! i love what i heard today and i will continue to react to the music! :)
Anemia is a great song to react to,i suggest schism as well....both songs being by tool
The bass in this song is so insanely intense.
It's not just you. ☺
Listen to it cranked through a subwoofer sometime.🔥♨
Definitely fire.
A 10.0 on the Richter scale earthquake of bass.
Thank me later.☺
Love it.
Wait.
You cut the song short?
Sucks, bruh.😒
I know.
Copyright issues.
But, just stop the song to comment, don't cut the song short.
This one loses a bit of the intensity when you chop it down.
Even just a little.
Just a thought.☺
Otherwise, great reaction.
Glad you like 'em dude. Tool is one of my all time favorite bands.
Just found your channel bro and I like seeing your open mindedness and reaction to music you haven't heard of or much of.
Do avatar bloody angel, their music vids have a very unique videos
Avatar is amazing in studio and live, saw them twice live. Also "The King welcomes you to Avatar Country" is an amazing song.
Avatar hail the apocalypse!
Saw them live a few weeks ago. Such a privilege
james Hau yesss
I'm coming back around to old videos, and realized that nobody does fucking Avatar!
Why not?!
Those guys have serious talent. Their videos are entertaining as hell, and Johannes' vocals are so on point... You can easily understand the lyrics, even when he does his metal growl.
Goddamn I want these guys to get at least a little more recognition.
Tool is a great band to check out if you like digging into lyricism. Maybe an unpopular opinion, but Sober is actually one of my least favorite songs by Tool. Definitely check out more from them!
I agree with you.
it should be unpopular because that song is FUCKING AMAZING... but taste is taste, so... you are forgiven
ill be checking out a lot more tool!
Always my favorite is Forty-six & 2
Not Important lol, nah i hear ya. By no means was I trying to imply that I dislike the song. Because I do like it, it's a good song. I'm just saying that Tool has a ton of other songs that I like even better.
This is my favourite band. Respect for giving Tool a listen. I am totally subbing to your channel. Enjoying your videos a lot.
Tool is all about the claymation early on in their videos. They are a very deep lyrically. Alot of maynards lyrics we're about depression and self worth. Another song to check out is "Prison sex". Bad ass riffs.
Stumbled across your channel cruising reaction vids. I'm digging it and love that you're broadening your musical taste . You got another follower. Subscribed
React to Cowboys from hell by Pantera.
You know Alex, I was thinking a lot about recommending you to react to "10,000 Days" from TOOL, but this song has such a strong lyrics (so to speak) and I have seen people cry when listening to it, that I do not know if I wanted to see you like that.
But if you can do it, obviously I'll look at it anyway.
Watching in 2020 and loving it!! Keep grinding bro
Bro, your reactions are amazing! Btw, your movie cut-ins are top shelf!!!
React to One- Metallica.
Toooool!
Tool is my favorite band. Everyone is top of their game or damn near. And some of the song writing is incredibly intricate.
I don't think there is an offical video for 46 and 2. All official Tool videos are surreal as Hell.
Sober, as great as it is, is a relatively simple song for Tool, and thus an excellent starter song. 46 and 2, Stinkfist, Aenima, The Pot and Schism are closer to the deep end. But Lateralus and the two song combo of Parabol and Parabola... that's the lightless abyssal depths of the Marianas Trench.
I subscribed to you, I freaking love your reactions! Especially when you listen to music I love, it's refreshing to see! Ha!
Lots of great bass in TOOL songs, and Maynard's voice is so hypnotizing!
welcome to the family! haha just drop some suggestions to make sure i keep reacting to songs you like! thank you so much for the love and support! :) i appreciate the hell out of that
Tool = genius
More Tool please!! Listen to Lateralus or The Pot :)
@Alex Hefner I have just SUBed you after watching your "Down With The Sickness" reaction vid. That face was priceless when the "hate mommy" lyrics kicked in......lol Great react vids dude ....keep them coming
You got respect from a huge metal head been binge watching your stuff you're awesome
TOOL - Parabol/Parabola w/video!!!
Most Tool videos have a similar style.
God it's been literally 20+ years since I've seen the actual video. I remember watching it for the first time in 6th grade at about 1am on MTV. Changed my outlook on music forever.
im glad i could bring back some memories for ya! i thoroughly enjoyed myself!!
I found Tool 12 years ago with 10,000 Days and have loved them ever since. Every album is unique and the lyrics are very thought provoking. I can just sit, listen and think for hours. So good. Another band you should react to is Trivium. Just found them and have been enjoying them so much. Some suggestions to put in a poll on your twitter to decide are Shogun, The Sin and the Sentence, Throes of Perdition, Built to Fall, In Waves, Betrayer, Sever the Hand, A gunshot to the head of Trepidation, Kirisute Gomen, Down from the Sky, Into the Mouth of Hell We March, Watch the world burn (love the music video for that one). I know I just listed a ton of songs (and I could keep on going), but pick a few and let twitter decide. Oh and just a heads up, if the people voting know the song Shogun, it has a very high chance of winning. It's often referenced as being their best song ever.
you know what? after that comment i might not even put it on twitter. i might just react to it straight away! thanks so much for the love and support :)
The Grudge - Tool
react to something from Gojira, "The Cell" video is pretty sick
Tool is like a modern-day Pink Floyd. You have the lyrics interpretated correctly. And the baseline is well noted. I was at the last Rock On The Range where Tool closed out this Columbus OH 3-day festival.
Tool is an absolute phenomenon, there's nothing and no one else like them. I do hope you'll get back to them in the future :D
Fire from the gods-excuse me
React to Between the Buried and me "Ants of the Sky"
God yes please
Hating me is conforming Hell yeah, one of the best songs off of Colors
Not enough prog going on here, I vote for that too
The Coma Machine
Yessss.
Tool is my personal favorite band, all their songs have important messages and great metaphors
Bought this tape from Columbia House back in '93 on the strength of this song/video. Still an amazing album by an awesome band.
You could give Gojira a try. They are very cool ^^
Flying Whales!!!
I believe Undertow was their best album as a whole (the album with this song) that's my opinion dont get mad lol
Also please react to Clutch- Electric Worry
Bringing me back to middle school with this one👍
Eulogy
Schism. All 3 great songs
Aenima
Dude, thank you for making relive my youth. I just recently found out about this. Love your reactions. I probably watched 30 videos in 3days. You should probably check out some metal bands led by chic singers. In this moment, otep, Halestorm and straight line stitch. Have a dope ass day!!! Btw I'll take you to a concert.
This tool video is like if Tim burton and Steven Spielberg had a baby so creepy lol
Do Infant Annihilator.
But we need to see his reaction to Motherless Miscarriage!
And not just him, but anyone and everyone reaction to it.
I get that Dark Souls boss victory satisfaction from their reactions. :P
You’re just getting started man, there’s so much great metal out there
You just changed my perspective of this song by pointing out the double negative. I always took it as 'why can't we be sober', but he's more like saying 'why can't I get fucked up'. Good vid brah, thanks.
React to Devil in I by slipknot
Yes, this.
That video creeped the hell out of me the first time watching it, those things are so creepy with the head swinging.
Tool - Jambi
david howard YES!
Tools my favorite band great musicians great lyrics and Maynards voice Epic!!!!! GOAT
Hell yea!!! MORE TOOL PLEASE!!
Cheers from Texas!
im from texas too!!! houston tx
Alex Hefner Right on man!! I’m in San Antonio
First Time: Breaking Benjamin:
You should check out some Tool songs without the videos. The videos kinda can take away from the experience.
gotcha! yeah ill pull up some lyrics videos and really dive into them
The guitar player Adam Jones does the bands art as well. Including the claymation. He was involved with the Jurassic Park special effects and many more.
Wish I could have seen your 46&2 video. One of my favorite songs from tool
Its always Tool and Slipknot...
Lets go someplace else for once. Branch out, and not do what everyone else does as a first metal introduction.
Try some Karnivool. Cool alt rock/metal group from Australia. Try the song COTE. Doesnt have a video so itd have to be a lyric.
Smithysmithin You're just saying that because it's becoming popular and not underground. Although, slipknot and Tool are not underground. They certainly broke the mold and still sold millions.
No. I'm saying that because literally EVERY reaction channel is moving through the motions of "Hip-hop fan listens to metal for the first time" and insert any of the following bands - Slipknot, Tool, Metallica. I'll wait while you look up how many other channels are doing this. It was fine 3 years ago when WeabooReacts did it. It was fresh. It's even fine when HecticReacts started to do it like 8-12 months ago with Tool. But now, it's just the same bands over and over. I mean, these bands are good, don't get me wrong, I love Slipknot and Tool. But ffs there are so many other bands to hear that offer more variety, and different styles.
All I'm asking is for him to be different, and branch out early. If he can start hitting different bands now, he'll be starting his own trend.
you got it man! what a great idea
Alex Hefner i didnt mean to be rude. And im sorry, cause it did come off rude. I just want to see some more bands spreading around. There are so many good bands that offer just as much. Like i said, Karnivool is great alternative band that is similar to tool, but they also have their own sound that makes them unique. How bout instead of Slipknot we try some Lamb of God. Theyre a great entry level band. They give you access into the heavier side without being too far that first time listeners cant get into them.
Smithysmithin what a shit song request, out of all songs by Karnivool you choose COTE haha
TRY P.O.D. PLEASE!
How do you only have one TOOL reaction vid? More!
Love the Manson and Mudvayne vids, I saw Manson live in '96 when I was 15 and Mudvayne in '2000
My childhood band! I’m fifteen now and I listened to these guys since I was still in 5th grade. I’m in ninth grade and I’m still obsessed with them.
Tool is hands down my favorite band. I'm a guitarist and take mad inspiration from Adam Jones, Tools guitarist, love that you react to their music, would love if you did more of them :), but all in all I'm diggin it.
I love to see a person whos on another genres getting ivolved in metal and actually liking it so much. Btw try 46&2 from tool which is a piece of art and maybe try to listem to ...messugah "demiurge" for example, its a complete experience to the ears;)
I love sober it's one of my favorite songs by Tool. I recommend listening and reacting to either the pot, or right in two. I love the lyrics to both so much.
Yes they're videos are very much so psychedelic videos it just plays mind games with you all the time throughout the whole entire video
Check out Times of Grace, the entire album is epic! It's a side project that Adam from Killswitch Engage, when he hurt his back and had to have surgery. He wrote the vocals, guitar, bass, and drum parts! Incredible singing and the lyrics are so well written!!!!!
First, loving the vids! It's interesting to see how you react to this music. Tool is more atmospheric in the music & the lyrics are hard to hear but super important and really deep and good. You should do Moneyshot by Puscifer, Maynard sings in that band too. A Perfect Circle would be good too.
Maynard James Keenan (singer for Tool) has another band called A Perfect Circle, and they released a new album recently, Talk Talk and The Doomed are 2 great songs but also another good one is called So Long and Thanks For All The Fish. I would love to see a reaction to any of those songs
Respect for your open mind.
My jaw was on the floor when I first saw this video. Almost 30 years later and I'm still just as impressed.
Fun fact, Adam Jones, the guitar player for Tool, used to work for Spielberg making the animatronics for Jurassic Park and T2 and if I'm not mistaken worked on E.T. as well
I love Tool's video work
Glad you like Tool. Spiral Out. Keep Going.
When you put it in context with the "Why can't we sleep (drink) forever," it's not a cry for hedonism; it's a desire to be continually numb.
Couple that with the refrain of just wanting "to start this over," and to me, it's very clearly an ode to not liking how one's life has turned out (or one aspect of one's life, like a relationship), and the narrator knows you can never go back, can never just start again, but neither can you kill the feelings, the memories, and the pain.
He wants a do-over, and if that's not possible, to just sleep forever or to be numb, so that he never again has to face the pain.
Tool!! All that needs to be said! 🤘🤘
Jambi-Tool trust me it's going to get good with the Tool suggestions man get ready to be blown away
I'm so happy right now.... I love Tool!
