3 years later and this vid still holds true. Keep up the great work. Also the 9mm allen key that comes with most scufs can be used for resetting the controller and if you're on pc you can go on google to do a stick drift test to see what sensor is at fault.
ds4 has a visualizer you can use on pc I'm pretty sure, there's a video somebody else posted showing how to solder a new sensor on as well for like 10 bucks or so that looks not too difficult
My controller started drifting up when my sticks were standing still. I followed this video and found a ton of dirt on the copper panels. When I was done they wouldn’t move so I smacked them like other people did and now it works really well.
Good guide dude. It’s actually designed to get these problems. It’s the little bits of black rubber from the thumb sticks themselves that gets in there. I’ve rubbed down the locking rings on mine to remove the Scuf logo that’s embossed on there, it scrapes away at the bottom of the sticks cap as you move them and eventually causes them to wear out. Mine last ages now and it gets dirty a hell of a lot less too! Hope that helps 😉
This video deserves an Oscar, you just saved my life lmao thank you so much, my shit works like new again thank god. Dons don’t support a 16 year old kid enough to buy two of these bad boys. Thank you once again

A million thanks, I was trying to play and obviously could not because of this issue. I figured it was a problem due to the stick and it was really hindering the game cause I was not efficient at all and I was so frustrated. Your video and tips saved me ! Thanks a lot man, I really mean it
Used this method and then my stick was getting stuck. I got mad and smacked the analog and now it works fine, no stick drift, and doesn’t get stuck. Just Like new. So thanks I guess
Luke Strouse same thing happened to me at one point sadly the sticks on the impact r the same as the normal dualshock 4s, this controller isn’t even in use at the moment, I might get it fixed soon
Dartlin Gaming dude oh my god I just got mine in today ! And this joy stick was stuck for some reason did what the guy said but I just gave it a few smacks and it works fine now 🤣 so thank you
When the rubber deteriorated on our controller, little bits of rubber made there way down inside the controller. And that is what caused the drift on ours... cleaning up is difficult because the bits go everywhere...
scott ward somebody suggested using a small vacuum if u have one that def helps, fortunately I didn’t have the controller rubber wear down prob since I use kontrolfreeks and my thumb sticks under look almost new but my controller had plastic dust from the thumbsticks
Does it work at the right thumbstick (L3) because my L3 goes automatically to the left when I don’t even touch it. It always happens when I play the game Fortnite.
SanderNL2006 as long as your controller is not completely broken on the inside specifically the thumb stick and you have not cleaned it often I would at least give it a try and try to vacuum it out as well (hopefully dust but depending how long you’ve had the controller and how often and long you use it/how hard on it you’ve been it could be a hardware issue like mine which would require the controller being opened and a new thumbstick module soldered on
DarkBladeOniken I had a similar issue at one point, do you hold the controller with a tight grip? U might just need to reset the controller & do the recalibration thing scuf suggests rotating the thumbstick like 6 times each direction while pressing it down (sometimes there can be just “kinks” to work out and not actually anything broken (hopefully)
I had/have the same problem! Before I play fortnite lol I remove the left stick blow it out ...put stick back on, click it a few times and hit the reset button 2 times...seems to work
Its a shame, mine is broken since day 1, they are sellling broken controllers. Was my first and last buy with scuff. And dont tell me its not broken ffs, i shouldnt need to clean my controller so it dosnt drift WTF
Pedro Pereira yea it’s rly unfortunate, I like the feel of the controllers but I’m convinced they just basically sell re-skinned normal DualShock 4’s and possibly they are getting them used to put into their custom shells
My problem with my new elite series 2 controller is that whenever I push my right stick up or down It doesnt recognize it and It feels extremely sticky but it's only on the tv that it feels sticky
Muhamad LegenD I would take the cap off and make sure it’s smooth, there may be a small line or bump of plastic that you can file down that just wasn’t manufactured perfectly, look around the top dome area inside your thumbstick cap that is getting stuck, I suspect there’s a little snag that’s catching, try using a small nail file or sandpaper VERY GENTLY and just make it like normal (like the other thumbstick cap) that’s likely what it is, also try swapping left and right scuf rings
Muhamad LegenD it’s prob the cap catching onto the scuf ring, also inspect the underside of the scuf ring from the problem thumbstick it could be the piece that’s catching
Muhamad LegenD I had the same problem at one point it’s definitely either the thumb stick or the ring, I would definitely inspect both of them, swap thumb sticks, and if that doesn’t work you might have to lightly nail file any grooves off the plastic on bottom of the ring and around the top of the cap (the side that moves around within the ring)
Prob means the thumb stick has been broken and never was dirty or was but was also broken as well (just like mine was) I wound up just buying a PlayStation back button and using a normal DualShock 4 because scuf couldn’t quote me on a price before asking me to ship my controller to them (which also costs $)
I’ve seen no other UA-cam video similar to my problem my scuf impact came this too, Whenever you play Apex with it and try self res by holding square it opens the map like I hit the touchpad and really don’t feel like sending it back
try messing with the safe zone settings, otherwise it may be something internally thats getting hit by the thumbstick, its unfortunate these kinda things happened i just wound up buying 2 new dualshock 4's and a playstation back button I got fed up with the scuf its just a paperweight for me now lol smh
When I play apex the problem for me is that it doesn’t let me run continuously. For example, I’ll be running for 5 steps then the next 6-8 steps I walk and it just repeats like that. It’s frustrating.
mine happened after a year...between gta online and blackops 4 i killed it lol it's unfortunate when ur fave controller reaches its end of days but theres def some remedies even if you have to order and replace some inner parts that could have just worn down
as long as you have a scuf key and ring it should be the same even if it was xbox, I think all thumbsticks work on the same technology dating even back to like ps2 or whenever clicking thumbsticks down began (l3 r3)
CallMeMysticc is it still under warranty? How old is the controller? Depending on age it’s more likely to be hardware than software but if it’s under warranty I’d try contacting scuf and just send it in (you may have to pay shipping which kinda sucks but if ur under warranty I’d milk it until it’s gone...only issue is U won’t have ur controller for a few weeks likely
water would be the only other thing i would suggest, you just don't want anything to get damaged so use a veeeeery small amount it should only be damp on the q tip not dripping
I don't have the remapping on mine, but would imagine it does because it does on the vantage so it likely does on here) but id ask them I can't find any word about it online
you can use a keyboard air duster, just make sure its right side up and spray it first in the air to test it (if the air duster can is upside down, liquid will come out)
I popped the green thing out and left it popped out stopped the drift, I popped it back in to test it and it started drifting so I just left it popped out
thats crazy that worked because technically that stick is missing one of the sensors for one of the axis's (it may just be an axis sensor cap, but clearly that particular sensor was the issue, i might have to try that also
I know this vid is old but pls if you respond i’ll appreciate it, i have a brand new scuf and whenever i press on the left analog stick it starts making me jump and crouch and makes the audio from my mic cut out, what do i do??
I would def contact them, they are now owned by corsair which means they will prob have better customer service than they used do and if it's new it should def be still covered under warranty, it sounds like there is a connection issue with something on the circuit board inside the controller
i got my controller like 3 months ago and it’s already freaking out. I tried this and it’s not really working, is it possible my controllers already broken?
unfortunately it is, look into what their warranty is because from my memory they have a super short warranty its like 90 days or something ridiculous then after that point they say it's just "regular wear and tear" the thing they don't tell you is that the controller was built from either parts from a new or refurbished dualshock 4, which sometimes you will get a thumbstick module from a bad batch in the factory (which they should repair for free) I would get in contact with them asap and see if ur still under warranty
I was having problems then I realised there was a tiny screw loose inside my pad and it would get in weird places and mess shit up, got it out through the thumb stick hole
I searched up a video for this because my right stick the one usually used to look around in most games would randomly start looking left just cleaned it without alcohol tho and I’m gonna see if it works maybe that’s just the problem just random gunk stuck inside
Gabe Tatlock id go check this other fix i found filing down the actual stick that may have an indention (using a nail file) or consider getting the ps4 back button that comes out later this month and just use a ds4, unfortunately all the thumbsticks on the market for controllers are basically the same quality, im going to buy a back button when it comes out later this month though!
Gabe Tatlock you may have hardware damage but if u are wiring in try watching this fix (apparently some models of ds4 have input lag that can seem like stick drift and input lag) i am afraid my thumbstick is nearing finished but it feels a little cleaner after changing this setting i once flipped on in hopes of better results that was actually hurting me!
You might be able to press down on the stick but it may just start leaning again eventually, the module may be detached from the board a little bit and the only permanent solution would be having them re solder it on which can be a pain
Try 2 paper clips or toothpicks and just hold the controller with legs or have a friend or family member hold and turn the scuf ring with whatever you can get into those grooves
try 2 safety pins, paper clips, or toothpicks I think that would work to open the rings, as far as the analog sticks, they should slide right off, if not I'd contact scuf, you dont want to break anything!
yeah controllers are really inconsistent i've noticed esp if you play the games you want modified controllers for the games almost demand so much of you the controllers can't seem to handle online gaming if you are getting competitive, they had to rework the ps4 controllers and make better r2 and l2 buttons but haven't changed thumbsticks since launch and prob wont because of the ps5 right around the corner...if u can adjust ur deadzone settings in game try that on the stick thats drifting
When ever I play with the thing around the joystick my analog stick gets stuck in every direction I move it in but soon as I take the ring around it it works fine I put it back on it won’t move please help
If it’s on at the right angle with the arrow facing bottom left, then you might just need to press it into place. Ran into this problem when I first got mine, I was so scared to even touch it 😂
you can use the scuf key that came with the controller in case you dont have it handy you can also put 2 toothpicks, paper clips, thumbtacks into the grooves and turn the scuf ring to the left and then you can take the thumbstick out
My scuff wont charge and i already reset it it says its charging but after hours it doesn't actually charge and when i move the controller around when plugged in iiit just doesn't charge or disconnects. Any suggestions?
Probably a broken charger port sadly, those ports are very brittle thats y they have the little ridge on the scuf controllers but the internals are the same as any ds4
yes, however they have the same thumbstick of all ps4 comtrollers So they are not necessarily going to last any longer necessarily, if you want the paddles id look at the ps4 back button unless you just gotta have a scuf, scuf key is good for changing thumbstick types etc but not a feature worth 150$ in my opinion
@@dartlingaming yup suck it all out before you get all the dust on the cotton tip then go back with a cotton tip and clean then finish with the vacuum. Ultimate clean
The Issue with doing it this way, is that there are other sensitive compartments in the controller, wouldn't be easier to open it up and change it out?
no problem, glad this video has been able to help people out, another suggestion id give is to get a compressed air duster and make sure it's right side up with the controller upside down and dust it every so often maybe every 2 months or so...I've started doing this also since making the video
i wouldn't suggest using that because it could potentially hurt something, I think hand sanitizer would be better if you had some but no rubbing alcohol but remember make sure the q tip is basically dry you want it to be damp but not dripping
you may have something physically damaged inside, mine needs a new sensor inside, im going to have to use pliers to remove the security screws, Unfortunately I am out of warranty but I've been using dualshock 4's with a playstation back button attachment... might be more cost effective than repairing or buying a new scuf, esp this late into ps4 life cycle...its unfortunate we buy 150$+ controllers and they get outlived by controllers we owned for much longer because internally they are the same and many scuf controllers are made of refurbished ds4 parts
no, but it could help, id try and see if it works without resetting and then reset, as long as you don't get the internals wet(make sure qtip is not going to drip) you will be able to know if it was dirt and debris or if there is a damaged sensor disc inside the thumbstick module (let me know if this helps!)

def send it in to them it should be covered by warranty, thats really unfortunate, mine didn't last as long as I hoped either, hopefully with corsair owning them now their customer service improves
did this and worked perfectly but now somehow my fucking home button wont work and the controller wont turn on. When plugged in it still glows orange but just wont turn on
the rings just hold the thumbstick down and contains its range of motion to a regular circumference (its essentially a lock that holds the stick in place)

Good vid
The right analog stick is slight tilted to the left, is there any fix for this? This causes the controller to go left a bit
You might be able to press down on the stick but it may just start leaning again eventually, the module may be detached from the board a little bit and the only permanent solution would be having them re solder it on which can be a pain
@@dartlingaming okay thank you 🙏🏼
I cant belive this worked
glad it worked!
What can you use instead of a scuf key
Try 2 paper clips or toothpicks and just hold the controller with legs or have a friend or family member hold and turn the scuf ring with whatever you can get into those grooves
Can you move your thumb stick and dpad
I think that's a different controller than this one, the vantage might, the astro controller for sure allows you to interchange them
Thx
I lost my scuff key. I can get the rings off but not the anolog
try 2 safety pins, paper clips, or toothpicks I think that would work to open the rings, as far as the analog sticks, they should slide right off, if not I'd contact scuf, you dont want to break anything!
Didn't even have my controller for 5 hours and it was drifting. Its random as well. Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it just majorly drifts
yeah controllers are really inconsistent i've noticed esp if you play the games you want modified controllers for the games almost demand so much of you the controllers can't seem to handle online gaming if you are getting competitive, they had to rework the ps4 controllers and make better r2 and l2 buttons but haven't changed thumbsticks since launch and prob wont because of the ps5 right around the corner...if u can adjust ur deadzone settings in game try that on the stick thats drifting
Thank you bro I was just about to throw it away
Sub to this god it actually worked
PureRaww Thank you! Glad it helped!
When ever I play with the thing around the joystick my analog stick gets stuck in every direction I move it in but soon as I take the ring around it it works fine I put it back on it won’t move please help
Have u inspected the bottom side of the ring? The plastic might have a little rough part that’s snagging
Your stick is higher than the other stick ??
If it’s on at the right angle with the arrow facing bottom left, then you might just need to press it into place. Ran into this problem when I first got mine, I was so scared to even touch it 😂
Homie said cute tip
had to troll a little bit even though the video is mostly serious lol its already bad enough our controllers are failing us :p
Thank you so much 😌🤙🏻
One-800-Tryhard no problem, glad i could help!
How do you get your analog stick out tho
you can use the scuf key that came with the controller in case you dont have it handy you can also put 2 toothpicks, paper clips, thumbtacks into the grooves and turn the scuf ring to the left and then you can take the thumbstick out
My scuff wont charge and i already reset it it says its charging but after hours it doesn't actually charge and when i move the controller around when plugged in iiit just doesn't charge or disconnects. Any suggestions?
Probably a broken charger port sadly, those ports are very brittle thats y they have the little ridge on the scuf controllers but the internals are the same as any ds4
My headphone jack on mine doesn’t work
I’m thinking about buying a scuf impact because my L3 stick won’t sprint. Does all scuf controllers have the scuf key?
yes, however they have the same thumbstick of all ps4 comtrollers So they are not necessarily going to last any longer necessarily, if you want the paddles id look at the ps4 back button unless you just gotta have a scuf, scuf key is good for changing thumbstick types etc but not a feature worth 150$ in my opinion
Dartlin Gaming oh ok. Im just trying to find a solution for this problem that doesnt involve me buying a controller every 3 months
if you get a scuf id suggest not getting the impact, ppl have the least issues with the infinity if ur on ps4
I did this and now my power button wont work thanks
Use a vacuum before you use a cotton tip
thats a good call!
@@dartlingaming yup suck it all out before you get all the dust on the cotton tip then go back with a cotton tip and clean then finish with the vacuum. Ultimate clean
Thanks bruh. Better lighting next time tho.
I’ll keep that in mind, thanks! Def trying to always improve my quality
The Issue with doing it this way, is that there are other sensitive compartments in the controller, wouldn't be easier to open it up and change it out?
it depends if its just dirty or if an internal part is actually damaged and needs replacing
Ty goat
no problem, glad this video has been able to help people out, another suggestion id give is to get a compressed air duster and make sure it's right side up with the controller upside down and dust it every so often maybe every 2 months or so...I've started doing this also since making the video
Mine still drifts slightly I don’t know what to do :/ had this controller since 2016
The thumb stick module or some of the sensors may need to be replaced because it's getting a little bit old and probably has been put through a lot
What happens with my controller is when i push The right thumb stick right it keepes going a bit left
It might be dirty but depending how long you’ve been using it and how hard you are on it the thumbstick may be warped

Thanks for telling me
After 5 months mine started to do this
Could I use hydrogen peroxide 3% ? Or does it matter?
i wouldn't suggest using that because it could potentially hurt something, I think hand sanitizer would be better if you had some but no rubbing alcohol but remember make sure the q tip is basically dry you want it to be damp but not dripping
Kinda worked for me, still got stuck though
you may have something physically damaged inside, mine needs a new sensor inside, im going to have to use pliers to remove the security screws, Unfortunately I am out of warranty but I've been using dualshock 4's with a playstation back button attachment... might be more cost effective than repairing or buying a new scuf, esp this late into ps4 life cycle...its unfortunate we buy 150$+ controllers and they get outlived by controllers we owned for much longer because internally they are the same and many scuf controllers are made of refurbished ds4 parts
Do I have to reset it?
no, but it could help, id try and see if it works without resetting and then reset, as long as you don't get the internals wet(make sure qtip is not going to drip) you will be able to know if it was dirt and debris or if there is a damaged sensor disc inside the thumbstick module (let me know if this helps!)

My new scuf controller got broken after 1 day and this Didnt help
def send it in to them it should be covered by warranty, thats really unfortunate, mine didn't last as long as I hoped either, hopefully with corsair owning them now their customer service improves
did this and worked perfectly but now somehow my fucking home button wont work and the controller wont turn on. When plugged in it still glows orange but just wont turn on
any suggestions?
try resetting the controller yet? that might get the home button back
Dartlin Gaming yep reset it several times still not working
Can you please explain what the rings are???
the rings just hold the thumbstick down and contains its range of motion to a regular circumference (its essentially a lock that holds the stick in place)
