What a treat! Steve Wallis represents the dying trait of pulling off to the side of the road and camping as one crossed the country. Once the province of captains of Industry like Edison, Ford and Firestone, who camped wherever they could find a pleasurable spot, this is dying out of practice because so many people have joined us since those grandees took up the hobby. There are fewer places without a no tesspassing sign where this can be done. Steve recognizes that camping doesn't have to be an expensive specialty hobby, nor does he leave a trace where he camps. Taking all sorts of odd combinations of ordinary household items he reinvents the spirit of camping, adventure being only limited to safety from bears and midnight police patrols to truely embrace enterprising a good place to sleep and a fire cooked meal. This is so refreshing to the adventuresome soul!
Steve is kind of unique when it comes to youtube campers. Where most would use some kind of survival fire starter tool for instance, Steve might use lighter fluid and a blow torch. He makes camping accessible and fun. No pretense or guise of being an expert at anything. Just like a fun person you might go camping with.
Steve is soft spoken, and seems very genuine, candid, honest and engaging, also very personable and like a really nice guy, while his camping videos are so relaxing since bring me back in time (to my earlier self) while watching his careful narration of a simple humble but life-sustaining activity while knowing that so many people can bc homeless, even temp, and his videos are so helpful since creative and cover so many types of situations
Steve is the kind of guy who would never ask to have a statue of him to be built, he's just so humble, but man! , he knows everything you need to know to survive an overnight in the sticks , or behind a town welcome sign, or in the middle of a freeway median, or in a drainage tunnel, the list goes ON!
I feel the same way i found steve one night and watched for about 3hrs straight idk what it is but ive tried watching others and cant find any other camper that i can even watch like i can steve
