True story: I'm creating a woodland garden and working on cleaning it up right now--the phone is playing this video in my pocket while I cut, drag, pull and move debris. I have a bunch of thin tree trunk cuttings about 2'-3' long. I just looked at one and thought, "how can I use these in my garden instead of clearing them out?" I took the phone out of my pocket to see what was going on and low and behold, I started watching at 7:40. Perfect! That's what I'll do. Thanks!
This is handy as a non-native newbie to middle TN. My property is similar to this with a lot of shade. We've already thinned out a lot of duplicate species on the lot & turned those limbs into borders, mulch, small hugelkultur berms (with swales), & framework for compost bays. I can't wait to fill in the shade spots with some wonderful native plants. (To be fair, we've already added some non-native ornamentals & fruit trees to the existing native ones for some diversity.)

Thank you for mentioning the umbrella magnolia one of the best looking natives we have! This tree started my sick tree obsession when i was a child!

Giant Solomon's Seal (and its normal size) are edible and can be consumed like asparagus, raw or cooked when young shoots.
