I'm so glad they gave us the opportunity to play it in open beta. It's saved me some money. A game that's just endless fetch quests that feels like it was built for a mobile isn't for me.
NGL the fetch-quests are actually the highlight.. and that says something.
Open-beta saved me $75 from buying the actual game.

No that happened to me man that was annoying. lol but I did eventually ended up getting the mark of death when the destroyed a foreign smugglers ship I was supposed to trade with lol they ended up sending a eight piece ship after me that was 2 lvls higher
Also the true mark of death will be shown as a icon under your health next to any buffs you have

I don't understand how they could make it worse then black flag. They literally had such a solid foundation to build upon. And this is what they came up with. You can tell this game was made for one single purpose. Sell skins and cosmetics.

@@keyserzose The game is not about it, it's super fun, swimming would be redundant. You don't ask for availability to get of your tank in world of tanks and to get of your ship in eve online. Same thing here.

What most fail to understand is that this game is not trying to be another assassin creed or black flag 2, you are the ship in this game not a person. However at the same time they shouldve added more gameplay mechanics and customisation for the ship itself like crew hiring and assigning officers, walk on ship, carrying a fishing boat on the ship, survival or maintenance elements for the ship etc
yeah I can agree with this but they might have left it out to appeal to more casual players rather than having those type of players overburden with ship maintenance mechanics.

Thanks for being one of the only content creators I’ve watched to try and articulate why the game feels bad as opposed to just bashing on it and making incessant comparisons to Black Flag. It’s a shame because there’s some potential here, and a lot of us want the game to be good.

@@quellem7 thats the thing. These ships sail faster than the highest turbo charged boat engine while having supposedly men pulling spades to move the boat. Also, it may be fatal, but you can do it. Saying the reason is fatal is quite low actually. Youre playing a game where you shoot canons faster than guns to set ablaze and kill people and your argument for not being able to jump off is it might kill you? Lmao

Even in the game now if you do the boarding at the wrong time it can get you killed. Now imagine that in PvP ac melee with PvP sounds like a nightmare first of all, secondly the severs have well over 9 players. That not going to fly. I truly believe you guys have no idea what you’re even asking for. Just got bunny hop in sea of thieves and be happy this ain’t for you lol.

The gameplay certainly looks like a Ubisoft game
Least in naval action with boarding it requires you to do stuff to kill down the enemy crew and once you win you can take over their ship completely and leave tours behind or send some people to it and it will be apart of your fleet and follow you with a partial bare minium crew or take it to port and dock it up
the wind does matter, a lot! the dhow that little fishing boat has a very cut down mechanic to ease you in. but you have keep the wind direction into the sails , it will roll your boat that does affect aiming and available gun elevations, waves push you about, hitting waves wrong slows you down , can even damage your ship and they will block shots .the boats can do some "gamey" things like spin on the spot when not moving but there are a lot of actually sailing mechanics once your past the opening tutorial and have an actual ship. and your just sailing around a flat millpond here to.
this is what im saying, it seems like everyone is trying to nitpick the fuck out of the game for the little stuff, which in this case he would have figured out he was wrong later on. i loved the beta and i preordered the game mid beta. and everyones forgetting, this was just a beta, and we dont know if everything in it is already set in stone.
Will that effect the automatic weapons?
@@CosplayZine what automatic weapons? The cannons play like they should. You should be able to make a single shot with long guns or culverins. Rockets should probably be the big difference but know one has touched rockets yet to comment. Only seen the ai use them.

so about your comment bout wind, I noticed it more in the largest available ship in the open beta, in the speed circle is a triangle that denotes the direction of the wind. I noticed if it was directly infront I would lose around 4 knots of speed even when "trimming" the sails.

You lose an amazing sense of tension when you speed up how fast the ships move. I've played more realistic ship battle games, and they were fun because doing things like escaping a ship that had you almost beaten was as much fun as defeating your enemy. It took time and skill, and not losing was an achievement in itself.
Yea I'm pretty sure 2003 russian game Sea Dogs 2 had better ship movement and naval battles than this.
Glad we got a beta on this one. Definitely saved me from making an expensive mistake.
Ngl, I enjoyed sailing the open seas, but not as a pirate. More like a mad merchant.
It’s minor but the way the cannons fire feels like firing normal guns is metas of a broadside of canons, with one shot firing after the other.
Theres a lot of cool things here but It somehow feels bare. Theres not much going on, I don’t really care for “make numbers to up”. But I gotta reiterate after playing the beta there’s some cool stuff like the trade system where you can buy or steal stuff in one region to sell in another that demand it.
But having everything being on the ship sucks. Can’t really visit these cool ports except for a few small areas
So basically those graphics mixed with Naval Action's gameplay would make a really nice game

How did you not see the triangle inside of the speed indicator? It shows the direction of the wind. When it's green you're sails are as full as they can be. When it's white it's still favorable but when it turns red it means you're sailing straight into the wind. So there is a wind mechanic. You can even dump all the wind from your sails and turn even quicker just like IRL. So it's not gas powered. Hate on the game but at least understand the mechanics.
Lame ass game can't even get that mechanic right, a sailboat is fastest perpendicular to the wind, not downwind

But what's more important, we are not talking boats. We are talking ships. They have more drift, more drag and sails adjustable in shorter range of angles. If we still discuss the game in the video than proper execution for wind mechanic would be an individual function describing relation between true wind angle and speed set for every vehicle according to its sails and hull configuration
Btw you can get (kinda) the volley attack if you attach a demi cannon

In AAA- and Ubisoft-Games especially it always feels like the people from the marketing-division are the main developers.
At this point as a premium holder, I’m a good 35 plus hours in and am quite enjoying it
The only way I would ever play this is if if was a free to play game and even then I'd likely put 5 hours into it and then never want to play it again. Ubisoft missed the mark on this massively such a shame.

It's got about 20-50 hours of good, sure. There are many..many issues.

bruh they literally did not check to see if you actually *HAVE* the required resources before turning in smuggling contracts.
My guess is that they counted on people's average playtime being about 6 hours in a week. any more than that and you start asking questions about where all the content is. This game is made to sell pre-orders and Uplay subs, plain and simple.
It looks good, it looks amazing. The problem is that Ubisoft now makes graphics and cut-scenes, not games.

The ships don't feel good, I'm glad you mentioned that. The ease of combat gets old when there isn't much to think about. Striving for arcade mechanics doesn't bother me, but they didn't have to swing this far into that direction.

I remember back when The Crew launched, I wrote in the forums "this is not a game for car enthusiasts" and I got a perma-ban for it (until they reversed it cause I complained).

As someone who literally didn’t hear about this game until it showed up on my Ubisoft+, I’m having fun playing it and that’s about my only metric for good vs bad games.
That being said, I can 100% see why people who followed this are let down.

So many haters because the game is stupid. Goofy mechanics, mid naval combat, you can't even get off the ship. Its a standalone game from assassins creed 4 that somehow does everything piratey worse despite being the whole point

It’s also full of pirate stuff just not swords fighting and in my opinion BF sword fighting was the worst in the genre can’t imagine it being PvP

i pre ordered it and played the beta i have full access and i love it but will say they couldve added so many more mechanics and options within the game itself
I personally think it is good and I am enjoying it. I have played a looot of it. You havent played far enough to see the depth. The wind matters a LOT. Some ships just sail into it well, but seriously, wind is everything. There is some depth to the manufacturing and delivery end game. You can pursued at an insane level when you start carrying large amounts of goods. You CAN fire full broadsides by clicking and holding. You can also demast enemy ships with demi cannons. Theres more mission types than you have tried as well. Escorts and repairs, etc. The ships actually felt like they had a good weightyness to me, I was surprised that was your take, but they are definitely turning on a dime. It is arcadey and I wish it wasn't, but I've still had a blast. The end game modules you put on your ship customize their builds quite heavily and it gets pretty deep. Idk. I am having fun overall. Needs work, but I think its better than people are saying.

Yeah I played the Open Beta and recorded it and stuff. The beginning is defiantly there to grab you, but it pancakes HARD on it's face right when you hit the first little area. Definitively a let down. I Called it a "Watered Down Sea of Thieves"
I actually really enjoyed the game but it’s not worth the price tag also had seen somewhere that the map in the beta is the full map but idk

I want sea of thieves to release on ps5, I miss playing that game it’s not just a pirate game it is THE pirate game, the graphics all though cartoony are beautiful especially the colours they’ve used, sailing through the blue kool aid coloured water is calming.

We expected MORE as a follow-up to Black Flag, but we were told we were wrong for expecting more because this is a "strategic" game that features piracy..... even though for the last 10 years we've been fed that this game is built on the shoulders of Black Flag. *If this game would have come out FIRST (on the PS2) then Black Flag- makes more sense. You can't give us less in 2024 then you gave us on a PS3 game. Love the video and opinion.
It's a bare minimum of a pirate, it's not even a pirate game. A ship battle game. When you control your character on hubs feels disconnected from the world, an afterthought and it feels like it used to be a menu but made it into a hub. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean but all the footage happens on the ship. The atrocious Pre-orders packs, MTXs design to milk a sinking ship. Overall, it feels like a chore to play Skulls and Bones.
I think if they really did try to slow down the experience, from a foundational design perspective, it could push them to arrive at a more complete and deep experience. A shame they were so afraid to let us immerse ourselves with deeper mechanics, probably fearing that wed complain too much if it was slow...even when that's really not the case. I wish they stuck to their original design back in 2017. the changes really took their toll. I still enjoyed what I played of it, and I will enjoy the main game, but it is unfortunate what they missed out on potentially. hopefully it would be possible for them to grow it in the future..but I have doubts.
I almost maxed my leveling in only those 8 hours so I mean is there only maybe at most 20 hours of gameplay

Too arcady, it it was more like the black flag gameplay it could work. If there is a mod to do that in the future it might be saved.
I dont think they were proud of how it looked. I think they realised they ran out of delays. You can only delay a game for so long until people stop giving a damn, and there was that thing with a deal in Singapore or something so the game HAD to come out. Normally, it'd be cancelled years ago.
So a little fun fact about this game, Ubisoft was most likely going to cancel this game for good. However, a scandal happened in Ubisoft Singapore where Singapore workers were not getting promoted and the foreign devs assigned there were. It was blatant discrimination and the Singapore government sued Ubisoft for it. Ubisoft lost and they were forced to pay reparations. Also, as part of the lawsuit, they needed to finish the game they were working on in the studio so the workers got their full paycheck and credit for their work. That game being Skull and Bones.

I would have loved this game if it weren't for the changes made to cater to a 'wider audience.' What audience do you think would be interested in a semi authentic pirate game? Casual Fortnite/ COD players? Now they made a game for nobody. The casuals will grow tired of the pirate thing and quickly go back to their modern shooters, and fans of the golden age of piracy will see this and go back to playing Naval action or even Sea of Thieves. Honestly, it doesn't matter if you can't fight in boarding mode, or explore every island by foot. The game was never intended to work this way. What bugs me is the over-the-top casual mechanics like the flamethrowers, catapults, fully automatic rocket launchers and torpedoes combined with some aesthetic choices like spikes, sails, and even cargo (did they forget, ship's have holds?) poking out of the ships hull, and don't even get me started on the fisher-price looking enemy ships (one of my worst gripes with the game!) Honestly, this game is not for me... So disappointed, the original concept spoke to me and was clearly made for historical gamers (even with minor fantasy elements,) people who enjoy pirate games and/ or people interested in ship combat. What we have here is a cat, dressed up like a dog and neither cat lovers, nor dog owners will have real interest. Good job Ubi!! For the people who have worked on this game I sincerely hope this game finds that elusive 'wider audience' but I doubt it...

If you're riding against the wind you are NOTICEABLY slower, three units slower in the ship after the Dhow or rather 25% slower at max speed. Definitely feel it and I do enjoy riding the waves and wind while I played my trial. Def considering buying

This game would be great if it was a bit like Naval Action in its best days but more dynamic. With this graphics and at least a bit of historical accuracy it would be great.
What would the perfect pirate game look like? Make Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag a multiplayer, add historical accuracy and Black Sails show backround. On the seven seas, you could keep human interaction to a minimum, cut the Caribbean map into pieces and sell it as DLC for $35 and I would still play that game.
Ubisoft make a proper AAAA live service game not this crap not worth a broken doubloon.
So basically instead of this being an immersive, open world pirate rpg, it's just a casual ship shooter.

The question is more : What are you expecting? It's made by Ubisoft... I don't want to be mad but in my opinion, since Chess Grandmaster, just Steep was not bad. They just do games for people who don't know games.
I feel like it is just very hip to bash on Skull & Bones now. So, everything is taken and blown out of proportion or over criticized etc.
I have to admit that I had a great time during the Beta the past few days. I definitely see that there are things missing in the game that would have made it a completer game. And granted, after the time it took to make, maybe it should have been in there. But the things that are there I am having a good time with, and it is making me look forward to more.
I am glad I gave it a chance and I will play it on release.

My opinion - as worthless as it is. I had a blast with this game. I love AC4 and wish for a new installment but I knew what to expect with this - online ship war fare. The Beta performed better than most Betas I’ve ever participated in. Had more fun with co-op play than I ever had with D4 or D2. Based on how I enjoyed the Beta, I’m excited for full release.
It really does look like a graphically impressive free to play mobile game. When I want to enjoy the feeling of sailing, I'll stick with Sea of Thieves

Ancient game, but I think it already had better gameplay than whatever this is
Im so excited to play a game from a publisher who doesn't care about pirate lore. They just made another cannon simulator where you cannot be a pirate and fight with a sword or gun and your mostly stuck in a ship. Pirates didn't even live on their ships for the most part they couldnt. 😂
They never ever EVERY EVER claimed this would be a realistic gameplay. Just saying.
It's not the game I wanted nor the game I would've made, I absolutely get peoples gripes with it and I agree with most of them. But I can't say in honesty I'm not enjoying it... I hate that I like it but I do.

5 dollars mobile game, 65 dollars for the graphics. No pirates found.
I’m glad I got to play the beta and not buy it and play it instead.
Personally I see Anthem all over this. Buy an incomplete and rushed game only to be given the middle finger in return. I played the Beta and it was fun but I’m not seeing any real substance here. I didn’t really experience any bugs in all honesty besides a few cut scenes glitching out. Visuals are great. Personally I don’t care about dated graphics as long as there is some game to play. On the positive side note I definitely see a good platform for them Ubisoft to build on. See what the future holds but I’ve been burned too many times on titles to want to risk this.

I spent 1 hour in the beta doing fetch quests then stopped playing.

@@goodsirtwiztid3101They didn't live in a sloop 24-7 that's for sure. They caught with swords and muskeys. This is just another cannon simulator with decent graphics.
