The music was written by Santos Jorge, and the lyrics by Jerónimo de la Ossa. The song is directed to the average, working-class Panamanian with such lyrics as "Ahead the shovel and pick; At work without any more dilation".
The usual length of the singing of the anthem is Chorus, Stanza I & II, then the Chorus again.

En el año de 1889, llega de Peralta, España, Santos Jorge, un músico estudiado. Cuando llegó a Panamá, comenzó como organista de la catedral y maestro de canto de las escuelas públicas y primarias. En 1892 es nombrado director de la banda (militar) del batallón Ecuador, y luego desempeñó ese mismo cargo pero en la recién fundada Banda Republicana.
En 1906, la Asamblea Nacional adopta el himno de acuerdo con la Ley 39 y en forma provisional, ya que se pensaba efectuar un concurso para escoger una nueva composición. El pueblo panameño lo volvió a escoger. Más tarde en la Constitución de 1941, se incluye un artículo que adopta en forma definitiva el llamado Himno Nacional.

That'd be independence from Colombia, not Spain, in 1903.
Ok we Panama got our independence from Spain on November 28th 1821 after declaring ourselves independent from Spain in 1821. In 1822 we united with Gran Colombia but we stayed when Gran Colombia dissolved throught the remaining 19th century us panamenians tried our best to separate from Colombia, and mostly failed, but we finnaly did it on November 3rd 1903 with the help of the U.S.A. because the U.S. wanted to redo the failed project of "The French Canal" but the Colombians said no so........ We revolted with the help with the U.S. separating succesfully from Colombia. Not so long after we gained soberanity the U.S. started building the Panama Canal and they finished on 15 of August 1914, but didn't give it to us they kept it from themselves and declared it as U.S territory and a lot happened between the ending of the constrction of the canal and when they gave it to us on december 31 1999 but between those things there was the Torrijos-Carter treaty which stated that panama would have the canal would be given to panama in 1999 or something like that (btw Omar Torrijos was our first dictator Omar died on a plane accident like between the mid 60 start of the 70). So after the thing mentioned in the parentesis our next dictator was Manuel Antonio Noriega who by the end of the 70 and all the 80 went crazy so the U.S. Invaded but Noriega stood in power until 1998 and we thought after that they defently would never give us the canal but they gave it to us with the condition if we missmanged the canal they would take control again.

I was born in the US. So as my dad. he joined the military and deployed to panama where he met my mom. my brother was born in panama. All four of us visited panama after 3 years of my birth. we stayed there for three years. and still til this day haven't listened to the national anthem til now.
